Im from worle but now live at st georges where all the new houses are.

your talking about colins pond as it used to be known cos colin who owns the fishing shop down milton road used to own it.

i didnt think there was that many pike in there but i used to fish it loads when i was younger and it was full of tench, roach and a few carp including some big kois someone had chucked in there. there was some big old perch in there too.

it used to have swims all around it but now its overgrown except the housing estate side thats got a path going up to the only swim on it? was thinking bout giving it a go for the tench in the spring.

the pond on the other side of the bridge used to be a syndicate pond and was full of big carp up to 30 pound, pike and perch. but when they sold it to housing developers, they took all the carp out. i had a look in there bout 3 years ago and saw a pike like a log in there.

have a go at pikeing in there if u can still get in it. i know its full of crap and weed but there used to be some big buggers in there!

u might know me as everyone knows everyone in weston! but i'm more of a pole fisherman and dont do any pikeing or big carping.

Sounds good Lewy....pike thrive on neglect so I'd give that pond a go

May be frozen over though on Saturday so I'd check that...last time I went to my local commercial when it was cold I ended up fishing through ice holes! lol

Going to be sub zero Friday so lots of places will be frozen over.

Reckon the good old pop up would work well if there's weed on the bottom....tend only to patenoster deads in rivers where the flow keeps the rig off the bottom.

Looks like the rain hasn't f**ked the rivers too much so I'l be out on Sat roving about....looking forward to it.

the pond nearest to mead vale is the one that used to be a syndicate pond with big carp, pike and perch in. thats the pond i saw the big pike in when i was having a look in it a couple of years ago.

the pond on the moor lane estate side used to be owned by colin whos got the fishing shop down milton road. this one used to be quality and was full of tench. didnt think there was many pike in there but i caught some big perch out of there.

I've had mixed results with prebaiting for pike. However I do "postbait". By this I mean I bait up at the end of each session with all my used baits and also those that have partially thawed. The advantages are:

1) I find freshly thawed baits to be more effective than ones that have been refrozen. This is especially so with certain species, smelts being a classic example. However it seems to make a difference to a greater or lesser extent with any species.

2) It's more hygenic

3) It may help the pike to grow bigger

4) It may draw the pike to the swim

5) If you don't bait up just about the only sea deadbaits the pike pick up have got hooks in!
