I'd suggest no higher than 4lb with a hi-tech hooklength of about 3lb.

What mainline would you recommend for quivertipping for river Roach, using mainly Breadflake as bait.

Maver dual Band is very low diameter and may be good for shy biting Roach. I used it in 6lb breaking strain for feeder fishing for Grayling and found it to be good. Silstar match team is another good one. Personally If I were you for sheer value and reliability Daiwa Sensor in 4lb or 6lb would be my coice. I know many people would use lighter lines but I feel more confortable with that bit more b/s just incase of the unexpected.

For the mainline for this type of fishing I would use no less than 4lb line, I have used 6lb before it depends how much weight is being cast out. Hooklengths can be any strain under the mainline whatever you are comfortouble with. I would probably use 2lb for stillwater roach, you might need a bit more for the flow of the river.
