What happens in the rest of the channel? Sounds desperate to me. Is this the same as the closing of the fishery down the sw last year?

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

So what will happen now? What fish next?

Extra pressure on bass and soles; but I expect the sole quota will not run the term.

Bass do not have a quota limit!

What it means for the cod is that instead of 95% (CEFAS estimate) of the two year olds being caught before they spawn; some will get through and we might see a smattering of 5lbs+ fish off the Channel beaches next Autumn.

Programme on ITV Meridian at 7-30pm might touch on it.

So the annual catching scheme became a six weeks cathing scheme.

This already happens with scallops and oysters down our way.

50 somethin' dredges out on opening day. Dwindles to a 'dribble of dredges' after a week or two.

Well, the commercial guys did ask for the extra cod quota to be available now as there's nothing else to fish for. It'll be interesting to see if they complain about lack of quota for other species later on in the year. I reckon it will effectively lead to an increase in effort - They will spend time later on in the year fishing purely for other species where they would have devoted effort to cod.

It's similar - normally Defra try to make the quotas last for the whole year, but they tend to not set them tightly at the start. They monitor takeup and when they see the quota in danger of running out they tighten it. For example, in area VIIe (southwest) cod tended to start at 500kg/month reducing to 50kg or total ban as the year went on. This year they started at 100 or 50kg (can't remember which) to avoid last year's situation where it ran out. Long term management - well it makes no difference if a year's quota is caught in 6 weeks or a whole year, as long as no extra quota is given then it doesn't matter when the fish are caught. If the cod quota ran out in May then there'd be fewer nets on the wrecks in summer.

Hi Toerag, don't they use the nets for the pollack.
