A before and after HDR.

I thought when I took this shot last week that I'd try giving it some HDR treatment. It came out ok I think. I used Photomatix for HDR then back in to photoshop and a little Lucisart, ColourEfex and Vivesa.

What do ya think? Hard to believe that all that cloud definition is in there looking at the first pic!

Nice PPing, HB. Are those plugins freebies? I've not got round to experimenting with anything other than standard CS3 stuff yet. Nice effect.

No mate they not unfortunately. CS3 has supposedly get the bugs worked out of HDR (I could never get it to work in CS2) but I havent given it a go. The others are very handy plug-ins but not all that cheap.

It looks exactly the same as the effect you can get with a single click of the Clarify tool in Paint Shop Pro.

I've tinkered with HDR in CS3 and it seems to do a reasonable job. I haven't had a chance to really get to grips with it yet (haven't really had much of a chance to get the camera out for a concerted effort for a while), so that will be the next project when we get some decent weather. I want to do some more long exposure shots and it's a question of getting the timing right, especially now it's dark when I go to work and dark when I get back. Probably about a 30 minute window at the weekends.

Keep up the great work.

Hmm, I find that hard to believe but the original is there Peter. Knock yourself out!

And Westie, I know all about those small windows of opportunity. Tracy keeps saying "So, we;ve got this on on the 22nd and that one the week after". It drives me nuts. I just want a weekend where NOTHING is happening. Oh well, I'm sure they'll come around sooner or later.

Okay, but it wasn't possible, due to the fact that the sky has been added in from a completely separate image. I deliberately overdid the Clarify effect and you can see that it reveals quite a bit of other work in the sky. The main body of the picture looked almost identical before I "over-egged" it.

HB, I assume you are combining 5 images taken at different exposures?

No Peter, thats the sky that was shot. I use layers so maybe thats whats thrown you? You'll notice that the back low cloud is visable in the original. Its just been enhanced by doing it in HDR.

@Poledark. One shot exposed differently three times mate. Then some other little fiddles with it with different programs on different layers (starting to confuse myself now lol). The original shot you see there is exactly what I started out with (only bigger coz I've re-sized it to post).

PS, one point to me. :)

I just wondered what has caused all those rectangles, as they suddenly appeared when I upped the Clarify effect to silly levels.
