Specialist beach rod

A Norfolk Boy

Recommended Posts

Never handled one, my 16' Mitchell is not a rod for holding all day, but I noticed on Rex Hunts show those fishing the long rods use a butt pad which will take the weight a lot easier and give a fair amount of hands free.

I use a multiplier on mine and I will admit I am still in training when it comes to casting.

But when I am on song a steady swing sends it a good 100yds without any effort.

I do tend to fish it on a rod rest currently keeping close to hand, but the butt pad could be the answer when things are getting lively.

I saw a guy with a fixed spool rod lob it out of sight with a 4oz lead every cast and he was fishing a three hook 5' trace.

Because your not yank it or giving it an almighty swish the bait stays on a lot better.

I fish, I catches a few, I lose a few, BUT I enjoys. Anglers Trust PM

Tell you what, these continental stle rods are the doggs doo dahs!!! And ive been using my 15 ft K2 team extreme for macky bashing, it realy is awesome and has given me so much beter results, for the following reasons.....

As these rods are so long and flexable, there is alot of elastic band action... I use an 8lb mainline on mine (fixed spool), with a 30 foot leghth of 15lb mono (for lifting fish + abrasion) joined onto a 40/50lb leghth of shockleader... With a lead about 4/5ox, simple over head thump this set-up realy does fly. with this i can thump t well over 100 yards, infact i wouldnt like to say how far really, and this is with macky feathers... Plus the added fun of fighting a string of mackies on 8lb line....

Contrary to popular belief, a big fish wont snap you very easily with 8lb line or the like (as long as the venue is fairly clean!) These long continental rods give so much cusion, its unbalevable, so anything that is any wieght is handled no bothers as long as you dont haul em... So far ive had 5* 1lb plus mackies on at a time, what a laugh, but it handles no problems.... The long leghnth of 15lb line really is neeed for lifting fish tjhrough the surf etc... The advantages of these rods realy are worth it... Bait collecting aside i think these rods with a similar set-up as ive been using are gonna work wonders for match fishing where its shy biting fish at long range-3 hook flappers

The K2 titanuim is awesome, But it is heavy, although you really dont notice it... If you want an even better tool for the job, something like the gruavell titanium surf concept... However this will break the bank! The shakespear K2 tintanium is around 200 quid, well worth it IMHO..

if you can find a rod similar to what you described, that will do the job as well as these long rods do for under 100 quid, ide be amazed!

Hi Shaun,

Glad to see someone else is using one, I get some strange looks some times from other anglers when I setup.

Soon takes the smile of their face when they see it fly out with a leisurely lob.

I fished a popular mark where a good cast puts you amongst the fish a few weeks back.

Had a few wise cracks about size isn't everything, they went a bit quiet when they saw my rig hit the bank on the far side of the channel and had to drag it back into the water.

The rod had a few close inspections after that, shame I only caught schoolies to about a 1lb would have love to have seen how it handled a decent size fish myself :D:D

I fish fifteen straight through to a tapered shock leader, had no problems to date but it is over clean ground.

I fish, I catches a few, I lose a few, BUT I enjoys. Anglers Trust PM
