Hockley Angling Club, Essex.

Recommended Posts

I've just payed my fees to join Hockley Angling Club in Essex for a season, and after a couple of sessions I am becoming increasingly frustrated with it.

Years ago, i fished, what used to be, the day ticket lake, but have no real knowledge of the other two lakes.

On my first session over there i opted for the top lake and it was just ridiculous. I don't think i had two rods in the water simultaneously for more than about ten minutes. I did a day session over there and had 60+ carp but nothing over about 9lb.

So, i went back the next day and decided to fish the other lake, and i was marginally happier. It was a lot quieter, and the quality of the fish was slightly better. I had about 6 carp up to about 12lb. But, i was plagued with bream all day long.

Has anyone got any knowledge of the 'Left Lake'? As to the best producing swims and preferable baits?

I know the carp go to about 26lb, and for a relative novice like myself, anything over 20lb would be great.

Can't help you I'm afraid, but do you have a Website or Contact details for the Club? I'm in Southend too and always enjoy fishing new waters!

Mat

They don't have a website as far as i know mate. But the phone number is 01268 781556, you'll speak to eith Robyn Payne or his wife. ;) It's £103 for a float membership, that's including a £20 initial sign up fee and £3 for your key. If you want to fish 2 carp rods on the 'Left Lake' you have to pay an extra £10 a year.

If you fancy coming over as a guest before paying a whole years fees mate, just let me know and i'll take you over there. I'll be going over there twice out of these days; 17th, 18th and 19th of this month.

It really is a good lake complex, the top lake is VERY over stocked, but apart from that the other two lakes are fantastic looking and hold some immaculate looking fish.

Don't know if you use the essex-fishing forum but if you do, go over and check this thread where i've given a bit more info on the lakes. ;)

sometimes you can catch too many carp. i love carp fishing but want it to be difficult i hate this modern trend over overstocking lakes. i am an old romantic and carp fishing means old lakes with trees and lakes like redmire pool and Dick Walker and all that life in the isle of the lotus stuff, not modern overstuffed lakes, although i have to admit i do go to them from time to time, just to make sure my rigs are working you understand. :D
