51-10 carp from Wingham!

Here's a pic of the fish. It's not pretty like many of the Wingham fish, but it is our first 50.

BTW, I lost a bet that the Main Lake would produce a 50 first as, although it's even less fished, there are several candidates. To be honest I didn't expect Matt's fish would reach 50lbs this year after such a long, cold winter, but happily I was proved wrong.

I thought the Carp Lake would be heaving today, but 1 member has the whole 15 acres to himself!

Here's a much prettier fish from the Carp Lake, and the one that many of my members would prefer to catch rather than the 51-10.

This is the biggest of several heavily-plated mirrors and when this pic was taken it went 41-12. It's since grown to 44-06.

We've now got 11 carp over 40lbs in the Carp Lake, including 5 commons. All are English fish that were stocked at 3 years of age, or as in the case of the 51-10 were born at Wingham.

Steve,

Very impressive. Do you have "slot limits" for carp fishing equipment?

Phone

Phone, the only "slot limits" I'm familiar with are to do with catch and release. In the UK just about every carp fishery is totally catch and release.

Does slot limit have a different meaning when it comes to tackle?

Steve,

I knew my question was wrong. I was trying to take a short-cut to asking this. If a guy is carp fishing (as indicated by terminal gear and bait) do you tell them they can't use a half ounce tc rod and 2 lb test line. Nor - can they use sea rods with 100 test line.

Do you - in a politically correct fasion - recommend "something"?

Phone

(We have idiots trying to set world records - say the largest carp on 2 lb line or 6 lb line)

Steve,

Yes, In addition to the "largest" fish ever caught of that species the International Game Fish Assoc. records line weight records. (i.e. the largest carp ever caught on 4lb test line was 36 lbs.) [that's a fictious example].

Equally, we have "experts" who believe the "challenge" of catching big fish on inappropriate equipment make them a "better" fisherman than you are.

Not something that's ever caught on with anglers in the UK. Well, not in freshwater at least, I think some of the sea anglers might care about IGFA.
