New kayak - prototype

This shows the difference in the bow profile. The new one rides waves just as well as the P13, even though it doesn't have the flare - that just makes it come down lighter the other side and ride up with the wave. It doesn't try to deflect spray by the flare - it doesn't cause much in the first place!

The stern works in a similar fashion, and by being low in profile it doesn't catch the wind and so stays on course. There is sufficient buoyancy to ride a wave without it breaking over the stern. I expect than in the suds it would, but then it will in the Prowler too!

There is also a substantial rudder post to hang a rudder from. The cut aways in the quarter I think are for rudder lines to be run internally. It doesn't need a rudder on the sea. Certainly not for what we are doing. If you were constantly trolling over a lcalised mark, then maybe.

Now look at the keel lines. The difference is marked and shows why the new one stays on course - the keel is long and well defined. The Prowler has a ggood keel, but it is faired off into the flare of the bow and stern, which allows the ends to be blown round more easily. The keel line on the new one is carried full length and so holds the ends in line.

A bit of rocker on the new one is not enough to make it turn as easily as the P13, but by heeling out and sweeping the new one comes round quite well.

The gaping maw of a hatch - it will take a whole scout troop's worth of camping gear down there - or the odd yelowfin tuna you may want to bring home... :D

It is well protected from waves too - by that surrounding wave deflector. It has taken all the pressure out of any wave before it hits the seal.

Agh yes, look at the seat from this angle and you can see the low position. And the prominent foot pads.

Also notice that central console - big, flat area for adding goodies upon.

The foot plates from a different view.

They fit me well enough.

Also shows the round flat which is large enough to mount a fishfinder upon. The gunwales either side are nice and flat, and wide enough to take a Scotty mount.
