The spring issue of Waterlog has just dropped through the letterbox.

 

"Who is this chap on the front cover? - he looks familiar" I asked, as I scanned through my copy over breakfast

 

"Go look in the mirror" said Norma.

 

She was right ! It wasn't me though, but a remarkable likeness to a picture from the Victorian era - and I have a sou'wester, grizzled beard and bulldog pipe just like the illustration. Its the sort of weather I row in, too.

Wonder if he was my great-great grandfather ??

Stockbridge pond was big then!

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

 

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Well, it couldn't have been long after the Flood. Those oars look as if they were hacked out of off-cuts from the Ark.

 

I wonder if it was pre-tobacco and he is smoking coltsfoot in that pipe ? As kids, we smoked pounds of coltsfoot in clay pipes - all part of fishing in those halcyon days..
