Ian,

N4lly's car reg gives a clue where he lives :D

Which is why I'm a bit confused by his comments here  :(

Mrs. Vagabond (and I hope I'm not insulting her here) is not a Spring chicken, yet she recently managed to bring alongside a 900lb Marlin in less than half an hour.

I'm all for catch and eat, if that's what you really set out to do and mean it, but what is this photo about? It looks like a tourist with a dead 'once in a lifetime' fish.

I followed a link from the swordfish forum and came to this:

http://www.fullmoonadventuresinc.com/rules.htm

Now, this seems to promote catch and release to me, so what is going on here?

I'm interested for the purposes of broadening the debate here.

I have refrained from posting links a lot worse than the photo above in the past few months, for fear of starting an inter-angler war, but would love to know a bit more about this fish.

What we have to understand is that, in a fishery that can quite happily accommodate this, this is just man being top of the food chain. We mustn't assume it's like catching a rare fish over here and then killing it for the pot. However, it would help if we knew a bit more in this case. Also, if it was a non-target species at the time, that would make a massive difference. Ian's comment above suggests that he may be able to shed a bit more light.

I'm not going to stop people posting comments here (yet LOL), but let's get some more info first.

I don't often add my *own* opinion to these discussions, as I have to sit on the fence more often than not, but I would hate to kill a fish like that.

Unless I was feeding a community, I couldn't see any reason to.

N4lly,

It suggests UK, rather than US, mate

I could have said you were about 8 miles from me, in a place I used to live, but was being discreet :D
