Both me and Dwayne caught a Mahi Mahi and it was just an excellent day. I want to thank you for all the quick responses to my emails and we will see you again the next time we a

Dorados by Yance Yore on choppy Sea

Tuesday March 27th by Yance Yore   Hey Mike,   This is an old message that i am replying to but it is all i had left. I am sending you this thanking you for everything setting up my best fishing trip since I caught my 185 pound tarpon four years ago. Your crew was awesome and professional and put me in the chair to land six Dorado out of eight with one huge bull. The only reason we didn't land them all is we didn't have enough hands. We had 3 on at the same time twice and my wife, as yo

Dorados and Sailfish

Mike's Marina Fishing Charters Tony Parsons March 2007 I had another great day fishing with Mike's Marina Deep Sea Fishing off Punta Cana this year. Last year we caught a big sailfin, this year its was even better. We set out in the afternoon with a fairly heavy swell and headed out way offshore. 5 dolphins joined the boat and swam with us for quite a long time before we hit a shoal of mahi mahi (dolphin fish). The lines were going off in all directions and the crew worked damned hard to h

Cracked Again (April 19)

Sorry, the weather was too good, and I was hearing too many reports of tench waking up for the summer. So I had a session on Wickwater main lake for the tench. It was slow, the water was still quite cold, but I eventually managed one tench of about 3lb and four little rudd, all on red maggot. It was a lovely evening though:

Last Chance Barbel

I managed a couple of end-of-season trips to my favourite barbel haunt in the last week of the season. We'd had a lot of heavy rain, and the rivers had been out of sorts for weeks, but finally the levels dropped, the colour faded and the rivers started to look inviting, so I gave it a go.   After traipsing across three fields feeling smug about the people fishing the swims near the road, I got to my favourite barbel swim to find some rotter fishing it. This stretch doesn't actually have all

2007 season fishing punta cana dominican republic

January 22nd by Greg Cory   Review of Mikes Marina and Deep Sea Fishing Charter           In The Beginning:       I have been deep sea fishing before this trip although never in the Dominican, same goes for several of my guests, so we pretty much knew what we were getting into. And although the trips were never that fruitful in the past, it was always a good time out in the sea with friends, so I knew I wanted to do it again this time. We contacted Mikes Marina several times via

25 pounder

This is my first fish that I have caught from New Pool, which is the new lake I go to.   I have been going to New Pool for 3 weeks, and no fish!   I used Assasin8 boilie with PVA - the mix was green lipped mussel pellets, 3 monster tiger nut boilies size 21mm and spicy chicken 15mm. I dipped hook bait in spicy curry powder which did the trick.

October Barbel Campaign

Well, my plan for a Thames barbel seems to have been derailed again. Not enough fishing and too much of it tenching, I think. I decided a couple of weeks ago that although it was too late to seek out Thames barbel, I would like to catch at least one during 2006. Probably the best barbel fishing round here is on the Bristol Avon, which I can fish on my Bristol, Bath & Wilts card, but with the year wearing on I felt that there was insufficient time to really suss out the Avon. Birch Grove Bonanza!

Finally managed to sort my Birch Grove Pictures from the week before last.   It was a great week even though I had to go home a few days early for my brothers wedding, how selfish was he - getting married during our week on Birch!!   It was a great week as usual, although it was a little sad in one regard; Anne who has been the Landlady at the Admiral Duncan for the last six years or so has decided to move on, and things definitely won’t be the same without her, and typically, she held a

The stuff that dreams are made of....

Having just re-read my last entry, I have to raise a wry smile. I added it just before I set off for a few days fishing with Elton down on the syndicate lake. In the entry and wrote about how I just had a feeling that it was going to be a good session as all the omens were looking good.   Just how good it actually ended up being surpassed any hopes that I might have had before hand, and looking back I still can’t believe how everything just seemed to fall into place. That’s not to say it was

Sailfish tripple off season

What a lucky son of a b...Brave Fisherman!   We are in mid Hurricane Season for our local waters, off the Dominican Republic's east coast, out of Punta Cana, but this lovely sunny saturday morning we have winds of 5Knots and less, sea 2ft max, sun is the typical caribbean power plant.   We are mid Blue Marlin Season, but 42ft Post named Intrepido is running out fishing with my friend Gabi, her brother and his 3 kiddies, all firsttimers, so Skipper Ramon Emilio frequents the close to shor

Christmas Comes Early…

What is it about preparing for a big fishing trip that makes us behave like little children?   I don’t know the answer but it’s an interesting thought. I used to have one big ‘build-up mission’ prior to the ‘off’ on the Top Pool each June, where I would spend a whole week in pursuit of genuine Leney originals, but with Izaak’s arrival this year my fishing to date has consisted of one rod and a bag of dog biscuits - so not much sorting required there!   However, last weekend I got the green

Blue Marlin Dream came true

Italian customer Fabio Steccanella had only one dream in mind when he contacted Mike at first early 2006, " i want to catch a Blue Marlin ". we figured out together when the best time during the 2006 Blue Marlin Season on the Dominican east coast would be, fishing out of Punta Cana, so at the end i decided by weather/moon/tide predictions to recommend the days before the full moon in august, so Fabio chartered my 42ft Bertram Shekinah with charter captains Jose Manuel Mota and Luis Alberto ca

white Marlin Season

let's stay on Saturday May 13th what a lovely day, after Searay Altamar reporting one dorado after the other, one bigger than the other, Skipper Jose Manuel Mota said to himself 'we are in white marlin season, so we fish for white marlin, to hell with the moon phase'. with the sea level close to 0 ft and no winds present he cleared reef close to 9:00AM, a bit late that day because clients took the wrong bus, but after that day they knew they've been on the right charter boat with Mike's Ma
