Could someone please define the phrase "field sport" ? I've googled it and the main definition of the word comes up as "an outdoor sport" .........................

Well , pardon me and the millions of others for having an opinion. I'll read my news from the "experts" (huh) who know better than everyone else , who so avidly put their point across on here and will not be dissuaded one iota from their own beliefs. :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

And Foxhunting IS then? 50+ people , overweight pen-pushers on their days off decide to mount a horse , close / detour some roads , enlist the help of 100???? hounds and embark on the epic journey across the countryside , running a fox (pretty much to death) as sport. If the humble fox is that much of a problem , why not have a designated team of fox-hunters to track down the "pests" and put a bullet straight through its head? No , 2 bit jumped up "10 bob millionaires" decide that it is right to run a tiny fox into the ground for nigh on 20 miles?? and then do as they please with it when caught. WHERE IS THE SPORT IN THAT!!!!!!!!!!?????

John Brennan / Challenge would probably be able to fill you in better Barry. I've often thought of giving one a go , but seeing as the ling won't go back down due to the swim bladder and the fact that i hate filleting the things , it wouldn't be fair on the fish being caught simply for the sake of catching it. I've heard , but no idea if it's correct or not , that the monsters are the "blue ling" and they congregate off the scottish coast.

Is it just me being so shallow? What's the problem with the show? It depicts the hard times that the north sea and the industry of trawling have to offer. Surely we are not that shallow to believe that dumping of unwanted fish never happens? It happens , get on with it. We don't live in a perfect world (yet) but the powers that be are having a very good go at it , so , fingers crossed , it shouldn't be too long.

Thanks very much Barry. The long range forecasts are up and down at the moment , and i can't seem to get a realistic idea yet if we're gonna be fishing. I'll wait for the countryfile forecast on sunday morning (it's not accurate, not by a long shot , but it usually gives a ball park idea of the coming weeks weather)
