  1. Thanks tony, il definatley have to give it a go. hopefully with a little bit of pre-baiting and patience il be able to get in contact with a few of the carp down there. thanks again in-line
  2. alright guys, just a quick questions about the KAPS section of the medway. recently ive been giving the river a go, with varying results but nothing more than a few 3lb bream. i was just wondering if anyone knows if there are any carp that reside in this stretch, i persoanlly havent heard of any captures but i thought it was worth asking. if so what sort of tactics would you recomend. i know at the moment there is a little bit of weed and also that the bottom is littered with tonnes of dead branches and snags. any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance in-line
  3. nice one guys hopefully il get some time and be able to put in a few nights down there. so just put the bait out bout 10 yards?? little pva bags nd that sould do the job? il have a little bit of a lead around when i get there and try to find the shelf but atleast i no that there not all out at range cheers in-line
  4. hi guys ive recently started fishing down in snodland on the KAPS water. what a great fishery, scenery is amazing and a great bunch of people. always giving a helpin hand to put you on some fish. ive fished burrows lake (the old stock pond) and had a few fish out biggest has been around 14 lb and that was around the begginnin of febuary. ive also had a few more out over april but again around 8-10 lb. ive tried doin short day sessions on the bigger lake(think its called pollard from what ive been told) with no luck. i was just wonderin wot sort of approach you need to catch out of that lake. i know that most anglers favour the car park side, up the right path as you come through the gate. and then drop down into one of those swims. ive tried those swims with my usual rigs and small beds of bait (often pva bags) but hav had nothing not even liners. ive spoken with other anglers who do well there and they say aslong as you put down a larger bed of bait you will catch. is this the case? wot sort of approaches are people using? and is it better to do a night rather than the days? ive been using the cell for a while now and i realy dont think i should change if im catchin on them. the rigs im using are either pop-ups or snowman set-ups with smaller 1.5 oz leads on clips and have worked fine on the other lakes. i really dont know whats happenin but any info in general about location, techniques or tactics would be greatly appreicated sorry for the essay guys haha cheers in-line
  5. hey guys just a quick question thats had me stumped for a lil while now ive recently made the change from shelf-life baits to freezer bait and i have to say im very happy with the change. ive used many of the brands on the market as well as my local tackle shop ones. although they hav caught me many fish im still not sure bout the way th baits thaw out. once i remove them from the freezer, the smell is fine but after a couple of hours they smell like they hav gone off ! the pinapple ones smell disgusting and the cell have a weirdly nice smell, but its not the original smell. ive tried thawing them out on towels aswell as air drying some but still a few hours down the line and the baits stink. are they still ok for the fish? are they goin to affect the catch rate, or become less attractive to the fish? how do i stop this happening? the only thing that i can think of is when i take them on a 24-36 hours session they are left in a shady spot. is this good enough? or are they just going off nd i make the problem worse by re-freezing them? any help would be much appreicated thanks in-line
  6. hi all just a quick question normally when i go fishing i prefer to fish close to snags or under overhanging bushes, and for this i normally fish locked up or i wind down nice and tight to the lead- therefore i get indication the minute anything picks up my bait. although i know that the banks are undercut and therefore its a good place to present a bait, right along the bank to the left or right. i have tried this previously and had so many line bites its unbelievable, this is because i always wind down tightly to the lead. what im going to try is slack line fishing and this is what my questions on. i understand the theory behind slack line fishing(line lays along the bottem so therfore its out of the way of the fish. what i dont get is how to set the indicator should it be on the floor? as this is the only place it will not be pulling the line tight and also if i do get a run a fishing swims towards me how will the indicator register the drop back if its already on the floor? also as many of the swims contain underwater snags i use leadcore alot.but again if i wind down to the lead surly the leadcore will be sitting up off the lakebed and will be even more obvious than normal mono? any help would be greatly appriciated (sorry i know its alot of questions and i only said " just a quick question" at the start) cheers guys in-line
  7. i went down a couple of days ago and the main thing that worried my was the fact that there was only one person fishing on one of the 6-7 lakes that i walked around. the place is huge and has about 9 lakes and its own tackle shop- yet it only had one person fishing it. weird?? cheers in-line
  8. hi all i was going to go to beaver farm fisheries today.last night i got all my bait ready, removed it all from the freezer to thaw out and bought a ton of maggots. i set up all my rods and packed my new holdall with everything i might need for a day session. i then thought that there may be some catch reports on the internet. i search beaver farm and found a post on another forum warning people not to go to beaver. i read all the responses and it seems that there have been many people who dislike the fishery. there were two things that i read that concerned me. the first was the report of lots of dead fish on the surface and the fact that fish were being caught with fungus allover them. the next was the bad reputation that the fishery has got for tackle theft in the end i decided against not to go as i dont fancy getting all my gear nicked or being surrounded by dead fish. the post was written last year in march, so things may have changed but im still not 100% sure i want to visit the water and how safe il be there. i was just wondering if anyone had fished the lake and what kind of experineces they had had. cheers in-line
  9. hi ray the main thing to consider is the type of swims you will be fishing. if you are going to be fishing a swim with alot of snags(overhanging bushes or lily pads) you will need stronger line than if you fish a un-snaggy swim. as long as you play the fish correctly there is no reason why you cant catch a 30lber on 10lb line. some fisheries do state that you must use a line of a certain breaking strain. for example one of my locals that holds fish up to about 48lb say you need a minimum of 15lb line. i would recommend 12lb line as this can deal with situations where a bit of force is needed i.e to steer fish away from snags but also will not be so heavy that you just end up dragging the fish in. i know that when people start they think how am i going to land a 20lber on 10lb line? as long as play the fish correctly 12lb line is all you need. if there are alot of snags it may be worth putting 15lb line on your spare spools so you can change over without to many problems when you arrive at the water. hope this helps enjoy your fishing and i hope you land that dream fish cheers in-line
  10. just thought id let you know i went down to the tackle shop and had a chat to one of the guys he said that it was possible to get a replacement top section and it would probally cost around £25 i though this was pretty good, although i might have to wait a couple of weeks for the order to go through and the top section to arrive cheers in-line
  11. thanks for your help rob and budgie il go down there tomorrow and ask them about it cheers again in-line
  12. its a fox warrior 2.75lb marker it about £55-60 i never really got to use it that much
  13. the rod was only about £60. do you reckon that the tackle shop would charge me more than this just for ordering the top section? if so il probably just buy a new one. cheers in-line
  14. hi guys just wondering if it is possible to buy part of a rod. i seem to have misplaced the top section of my marker rod(probally left it somewhere) is it possible to buy part of a rod or will i need to purchase a new one. it wasnt too expensive to begin with so buying another wouldnt break the bank, i was just wondering if it would be possible to order the new section for less money than buying a new rod. cheers in-line
  15. went to mousehole on sunday just thought id let you know how i got on. the weather started off awful although the fish were still spawning.(weeds in margins were covered in eggs) we managed 4 carp to about 6lb then from 10 till 4 the fishing stopped as the sun rose over the lake. then all hell broke loose and we had a further 5 fish of 5,6,7,12 and 13lb. all in all it was a good days fishing and the great thing was that there were only about 5 or 6 people on the entire lake! not really sure what size the fish run to but i think the two doubles must be a good average for the lake. cheers in-line
  16. hi guys long time since i last posted just wanted to know if anyone has ever fished mousehole kingfisher lake. if so what did you catch. ive been twice and managed to bank about 9 carp to about 12lb 8oz and a 3lb tench. just wanted to know if you have had anything bigger? cheers guys in-line
  17. hey guys just a quick question about suface fishing for some odd reason i have just remembered one of the problems i had during the summer the problem was using a controller float. every time i cast out my biscuit/pop-up/ bread would always move towards the controller. i know that its the line sinking and therefore pulling the bait towards the controller but how can i stop this happening? cheers in-line
  18. hey chubstar when i go to framfeild i normally leave one rod out for the cats and another for carp. il have whatevers there. were you thinking about elphicks? ive seen the pics of the fish in the lakes although i never fished there. cheers in-line
  19. hey bigfishnut not really sure where abouts crawley is but you may want to check out framfeild(east sussex). good starting place for kids. all you need on the two match lakes is a pack of hooks and a loaf or two of bread and your good to go. the bigger fish are under the bank and later on in the session they start to get into double figures. theres also a specimen lake with carp upto 25lb and tonnes of small cats that could be the next step up. halibut and meat work best and also the prices are very good. you would probally have to ring up and see when the matches are on and arrange the sesion around that. last time i went it was £7 for an adult and £4 for a child. and an additional rod is only another £1 you may be too far away from it. but it was just a thought i live in kent and its about 40 mins to an hour in the morning depending on traffic. cheers in-line
  20. hey carphead my worst fishing moment was more annoying than anything else. just made two great casts to the far bank. put the rods on the pod and sat back fairly confident that i would get atleast a couple of liners. nothing! after 5 or so hours i thought id bring them in to see what was wrong. both caught tree roots under the water as they were going down. what a waste of 5 hours fishing. now i feel the leads down just to be sure they hit the bottem cheers in-line
  21. thanks anthony that really does help and you have managed to answer all my questions in that one post going to give the tubing and back leads a go on saturday thanks again in-line
  22. well on larger waters with low stock levels you would want a nice smelly bait to attract the carp in. during summer you would want a more nutritional bait(fish meal) as the heat has increased the carps metabolisium and during winter small amounts of baits and smaller baits altogether. on highly stocked waters fish will take most flavours of bolies aslong as your presentation is ok. cheers in-line
  23. hi all for a while ive been using leadcore to pin my line to the lakebed but after reading this forum and some of martin bowlers articles in the angling times i have decided to switch to anchor tubing for obvious reasons (fish safety) just got a couple of quick questions first of all how long should the tubing be? i used to use about 3 ft of leadcore is it the same sort of length as that for tubing. also i dont understand how the tubing stays at the lead end of your rig when you cast. even if you tuck it into the tail rubber, surely it will come out? the other thing is how to use back leads and are these fixed onto the line(over tubing) or are they free to run up and down the main line. again, once you have cast the back lead could be 10m or so up the line if anyone could clear this up for me it would be greatly appricated cheers in-line
  24. hi pipe i used to use 20mm but found these a bit large so i have started using bolies around 15mm or trimming the 20mm down. i think it depends on what your more happy fishing with. as at the end of the day a small fish can still take a big bait and a big fish will always take a smaller one. what size have you got more confidence in? if you keep thinking to yourself "this 20mm bolie wont work" and keep bringing it in and changing the bait around you wont catch as you are just desturbing the swim. you must have faith that your bait will get picked up. to add to this a while ago angling times did and article on big vs small bolies. 10mm vs 26mm and i believe that the bigger bolie won (might be wrong but thats the result thats lodged in my head) again like i said about you pellet post its just something different. if fish are used to being caught on small bolies they may be more willing to take a bigger bait and vice versa cheers in-line
  25. hi pipe i use halibut pellets quite alot now as it is a bit of a change from bolies. what i would do is try putting different sized pellets of the same type in a bag with a hookbait to match one of the sizes still following me? for example, halibut pellets-- make a a bag with say 6 and 14mm pellets then fish a 14mm on the hook this will make sure the fish dont catch onto your plan-if there is one 14mm and all the rest are 6mm and they get caught first time on the 14mm they probally wont take it again( all to do with the "do fish wise up" arguement) whereas if they take a few 14mm they will think the 14mm are safe and build confidence. they will then take your hookbait more readily another issue to do with different sized halibut pellets is the break down rates, the smaller the pellet the quicker it will break down and release a scent trail into the water attracting the fish to your broken down pva bag and hookbait. the advantages are just that they are a bit different from the norm. i fished a water where bolies were the main bait but found that i had nothing on them. so i changed to pellet and yes i had a few fish. the other advantage is the shape as you hear all this talk on how carp wise up to the circular shape of a whole bolie and this is why i have recently started fishing trimmed down baits, and believe me they do make a differnce! as for disadvantages i find once you have drilled them the pellet can slide up and down the hair freely which means if the loop in your hair is too big the stop can fall off. and so does your bait. a way of stopping this is to make sure the loop in your hair is small enough not to let the stop fall out but big enough to put a new one in after changing a bait. or you could get a small thing called a bait sheild which is like a small plasticy/rubber circle shape and it goes between the pellet and the stop and justs prevents the bait stop falling out the rig i would use would be a reasonalby short hooklink mabye 4/5 inches with a 2.5 ounze lead on a lead clip with tubing. as for hook size maybe an 8 with a size 14mm pellet to be honest im not too sure about betaine as i have never really used them so hopefully some of the other guys can inform you on them hopefully ive covered everything you wanted to know cheers in-line
