  4. Went there about 6 years ago, There are some big carp in the lake at the back and loads of smaller fish in the lake nearer the road. Shearwater is not far from there as well. When I was there they did B&B and we had some good evenings in the clubhouse. It used to be owned by Ron 'Chopper ' Harris a famous footballer who played for Chelsea when they were a proper team!!!

  7. kleinbot, The Government keeps the rate of tax exactly the same, it is a constant percentage of the total and that does not go up or down. Insofar as oil companies being a major stumbling block to development of alternative fuels you are quite right, the reason for that is to appease the greed of their shareholders. Those alternative fuels that are available, LPG for instance are fine but the problem is the technology to make it work with the vehicles, as an example in the NHS Trust that I work for a whole fleet of ambulances that were supposed to dual fuelled have had to be sent back because everytime they were run on LPG it ****** the engine. And yes, one of the reasons that the new fleet was dual fuelled was going to be the wide availability of LPG, in the event a fifteen mile round trip was needed to refuel with LPG passing lots of garages selling petrol/deisel only. And thats another sign of the oil companies greed you can do your weeks shopping at the same time as filling up with petrol but try buying something for your car at the GARAGE,,,,,,,,,no chance.
  8. This thread seems to have gone a little off topic and descended into a slanging match. Everyone seems to be blaming the Government for increased fuel prices but in fact the latest round of increases are caused by the stock markets panicing and the the 'futures' dealers having a buy, buy, buy episode causing the OPEC cartel to increase their prices to the Oil Companies. Additionally in the good old English fashion, panic buying has started and that in turn will lead to a shortage which in turn will lead to further price increases.
