  16. hello, my dad has asked me post this on here to update everyone on his health. "He is currently in wakefield hospice and he is not expected to last much longer than the spring. As the cancer is both rampant and aggressive, He would like to thank all his former friends for all the support over the last year, he has no problems about waht comes next." he wrote that down for me to copy. thankyou.
  17. Hi Ferret I wouldn't bother. There's carp to be caught in little square ponds. The tackle you get is horrendous. 45 euros for half a day. I'd get off in a boat doing some bottom fishing. You won't go far out. When we did the 'Whales and Dolphins' thing, I enquired about the depth which was about 5 miles offshore. 1800 metres came the reply. Fishing aff the rocks you catch alsorts of funny stuff. You get bites instantly on anything. If you keep chucking something at them you'll keep them with you as long as your'e feeding. I usually use 3-4 lbs line and barbless hooks. A good few wriggle off but who cares.
  18. You won't be doing any coarse fishing because there is no water. You can catch alsorts in the sea on waggler tackle though.
  19. Let us pray you never find yourself in a possition of unemployment, serious ill health or any other disposition that would render you useless under your proposals I say this as a fortunate who has never signed on or been seriously ill My good fortune ran out November 2004. Diagnosed with Kidney cancer and was told "that will have to come out, you'll be in hospital a week, and off work for three months". Well, here I am, the kidney was removed on February 4th. I had a reoccurrance and a further operation on September 30th. I will not be back at work, if ever, until January 25th. 2006. I am awaiting a further scan, they then decide what happens next. I'm bored, bored, bloody bored, but they will not let me go back to work. My back has crucified me for the last fortnight, for what reason I know not. I could be in serious trouble! Incapity benefit is hardly a wage, and if my wife had not been so supportive, as well as working full time, I just don't know where we'd be. And I'm the bloke who has always claimed 'that your health is your greatest wealth'. I live close to a sink estate that is full of 'glassbacks', I feel as though I have become one of them. Not by choice, I can assure you.
  20. One of the things I remember best while 'doing Disney' was waiting in a queue and an American who looked like a serviceman, saying "You from England?" Yeah. London. No. WAKEFIELD. Is that near London. no it's in Yorkshire. York Shire. no Yorkshire. I asked if he knew where Liverpool was. Yeah. Manchester. Yeah. Hull. Where. I told him in it was on the same horizontal but on the east coast. I live between Hull and Manchester. Then the 'Bright Blackbirds' that everyone I asked what they were, they could not identify. They turned out to be Grackles, lovely little birds, I just found it unbelievable that they didn't know.
  21. That stuff, I have heard of Chris, but, where dost thou get it from?
  22. Ummmm, potential pest it says. That equates to me that they will really 'have a chew then', anything that will intercept the bait before the Red signal crayfish has got to be half decent .
  23. Living almost in Leeds you can guess which type I have. I paid £25 for it on the second hand market in Sheffield in 1993 and it was the best £25 I event spent on fishing tackle. Before I fish with it, I take the back plate off and give the ball race a good squirt of WD40. For light stickfloat fishing close in, it's perfect.
  24. I've 'done my back in'. Haven't been for nearly three weeks because of a bad chest. I think I did my back in, with all the coughing I did. Lucky me, the weather has been crap!
  25. I'm happy anywhere I can use a keepnet. I fish for silverfish in the main, not for bites like a lot of anglers. Very few commercials let you use a net unless you are in a match, and where I am, the local council is run by the twitching brigade, so we have alsorts of unneccesary limitations. It's all very well for the big fish brigade photographing their catch, the odd good fish. My success is measured by the weight of a number of fish. The odds of me putting up a photo on AN or anywhere else become minimal. I am happiest away from pike, that ruin my type of sport. The clear gravel pits have been wiped out by the cormorants, of my fish anyway. Rivers, I'm very comfortable with. Hundreds of hours on the Trent in my youth ensure that I can make my stick float 'talk'. I also love canals. They are handy to retreat to in winter when the rivers are a mess. What has changed for me, is there are fish in my rivers and canals. 15 years ago, it was dire.
