it was a good w/end, sorry more of you guys couldnt make it. Met up with olly, Derek and zak on Saturday morning, after initial greetings had been exchanged, we headed for the camp site. Upon arrival, after getting our barrier cards, we arrived at the pitch and met up with andy and family. We chatted away whilst we set up camp, the campsite itself was really nice, we had a pitch in a clearing in the trees almost like a small glade. After refreshments, it was time to leave the woman and kids and get out on the water. The launch was a decent one, it was a couple of hundred yards from where are tents where but it was easy enough to drive to the edge of the lake. There was a small stream running into the lake at the back of where we had set up camp, andy and I decided to launch there and paddle down into the lake, it was pretty cool, only a couple of feet deep, a couple of yards wide, plenty of over hanging trees to negotiate. We met up with olly and Derek on the main lake, we head towards the top end of the lake, there were a few fishy looking places scattered about, we all chucked a few lures about but there was no sign of any fish what so ever. We didn’t really stay out long, just long enough to get the yaks wet and have a bit of a look around. Back at camp, we sorted the bbq for the evening, spent some time just chatting and generally getting to know one another. After food and refreshments, we headed out again. Again we did not stay out for very long and yet again, no sign of any fish. the scenery was pretty cool. the clouds looked quite menacing. Back at camp, the evening was spent “socializing” till the early hours, there is something about cold bbq sausages dipped in chilli that just makes you drink more. The following morning I woke early to what I thought was thunder, it was actually andy snoring, I took myself off and went out for an early paddle. Went and tried a few places that looked fishy that had been spotted the evening before, again, no sign of fish life. Took a short break on a nearby island. I stayed out only for a couple of hours as the camp had to be dismantled before 11 o’clock. We spent time packing away and I headed off for home leaving the others to go out for one last paddle. Despite the lack of fish, it was a very enjoyable w/end indeed, in the company of other like minded yak anglers. It made a nice change for me as I normally am on my own when I go out, it was good to meet some of the guys off the site. Another w/end is a must, already looking forward to it. Ray.

just a quick one gents, if anybody is comming just to have a play on a yak, then it might be worth taking into account that you may get wet, throw some spare clobber in a bag to avoid a wet drive home. apart from that, be prepared for the addiction. ray.

hiya kelvin, i looked into it and found it to be a lot more expense and hassle than i expected. i tried DHL and found that it would cost at least £180 (they would not give me an exact figure/price), then i would still have to make my own arrangements for pick up from the port or pay extra for it to be delivered to my home. that was without the import tax. i found it much easier and a lot cheaper to get one over here, not quite what i wanted, but at least a couple of hundred quid cheaper. ray.

Hiya all, well after months of research as to choice of yak for me over here, I narrowed it down to 3, T120, prowler 13 and the emotion mojo. The mojo was ruled out due to problems getting one shipped over, the other 2 I can get over here. As I am not in a position to “try before I buy” I had to read everything possible about my choice of yak and look at countless pictures to help me make my decision. i had paddled both ok and w/s yaks in florida so that was a big help. With imput from various american friends, I made my choice and rang my order through on Monday, I was informed that there might be a 3 week wait till it arrived. Yesterday afternoon I got a phone call………”its here, when do you want to collect it.” So, first thing this morning I was waiting for the shop to open. Here she is. All gear in excellent condition, used but well looked after, makes include, daiwa, prestons, Shakespeare, okuma, silstar, Mitchell. Some stuff going back years, some recently bought.
