  1. I've just read through this thread and got a bit alarmed by some of the replies! quote: Leaky scuppers - if you are unfortunate and get one with leaky scuppers keep returning it till you get a good one Your statuory rights give you the right to return faulty goods for replacement and if no good then refund. If a replacement item is also unsatisfactory (faulty) then I would DEMAND my money back as well as all costs involved! As for ppl not taking Prowler hatch covers off 'cos they can't get them back on at sea etc. Isn't that health & safety issues ? I know one thing & I've been in a Prowler 13 too but there's no way I'll be buying one if thats the crack on  On the other hand, these Malibu X factors & the like are on the go & a few of us have been drawn to them but I'm gunna see Santa before I splash me cash with all these dodgy goings on
  2. No m8 mines a Perception Scooter & there's been reports of an Ocean Prowler 13 with very shoddy scuppers fitted that I know of. I'll try to find the thread and see for myself but am off to bed now (yawn)
  3. Hi, Chevin m8 (Andy) gr8 to get in here at last and try to catch up. I hope the new jobs gannin well for ya I've got the X factor at the top of my wish list for now but am waiting for more offerings from the big companies before I "dive in", LOL
  4. I've just managed to get in here for a quick look & knowing a little about this yak already I'm grateful for the info Simon, cheers! I'm very interested in one of these and at the moment am keeping an open mind for my new, dedicated fishing kayak. Great pics and excellent write up.
  5. Well I'm just bloody relieved that I never caught one the last two times I went after reading this I honestly wouldn't have a clue how to handle a Pike but just imagined it would be sort of Ling like ? I wouldn't keep it even if I was allowed but just like the sporting aspect of it. Any more info before we get there would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Croix, I think you'll be warmly welcomed newxt week m8
  6. I know it's too far for you Bill m8 but if anyones over that way or fancies a drive one day it'd be a good opportunity to meet up & try a yak out. There'll be my Perception Scooter, oLLy's Mambo & P13 as well as Rays and a few more hopefully so there's a good range of toys to play with
  7. A few of us are meeting up next week at Low Wray Camp-Site on Windermere for an overnight stay with fishing, BBQ and a good chinwag about our yaks. It's a great opportunity to meet like minded people and get to know each other as well as try other yaks out It's a family thing and all the kids are involved so bring them along if you want. Anyone is welcome to come along for a bit crack on or stay over, we've pre-booked the site and I'll be there from Friday 29th at Low Wray but at the lakes for about a week if I can stretch it that far Looking forward to meeting people, cya there
  8. Well done Martin on your first trip out on the open sea. Camping helps too as then there's no hurry or pressure on you to be anywhere or time limits and you can come and go as you please. Excellent advice Art  getting to know your yak is very important! I took mine to Coniston in Whit week (the week of storms) and really chucked it about in the choppy water. Stood up on it, tilted it as far as possible and really got to know it. I got some weird looks but who cares? it's my life I'm protecting
  9. I've got a TIGULLIO divers knive that I strap to my leg for both yak fishing & snorkelling. It's got all you need and especially if any pirates try to jump you oLLy's made a float for his anchor that we tested at Ullswater which I think is a great idea so you can cut the rope between the yak and float in an emergency then you can go back for the anchor later maybe.
  10. Excellent write up Simon, nice to see Ocean putting a built in back rest into their yaks at long last so we don't have to buy one! The sleeker design and full length keel like the Frenzy will give it much more speed in the water, looks like a really good fishing yak. I reckon we'll see a load of new ones this year and next from all the major manufacturers as they realise the potential of them in the UK
  11. Nice to see the thorny go back Kelvin! If I'm out a good way & get a few Mackerel, the first thing I'll be doing is killing one, filletting it & getting it onto a 6/0 Pennel Rig as a flowing trace/bait over some well known in-shore wrecks for Ling & Cod. The monster fish will then become a tale like your kids probably, LOL
  12. I personally can't see any magazines giving any web-sites free publicity Bill m8, although it would give us all a boost as well as promoting the sport as a whole and give the magazine readers a chance to read up on the safety pages, tactics and rigging ideas we all have. No harm in asking though I suppose!
  13. It sounds like you hit some pretty nasty currents the double high tide issue is something new to me and sounds very dodgy to say the least? Will you be going back out there to fish the same area again or will you be warning people off it? It's good to hear you's both have a divers knife I always take mine with me as you never know when your going to need it. Great pics, it's always a shame when the ones you want most turn out blurred I find it best to take a couple extra of each like a landed fish as they're irreplaceable!
  14. Hi, just got back here after losing my password and am very embarrassed about it too, LOL Rub, when it comes to kayak fishing there are no stupid questions IMHO. The more you ask the more you learn and in turn the better you get at it. I met up with oLLy last weekend and using his Prowler 13 inspired me to rig my Perception Scooter out with home made rod holders and although its just an orange bucket with two lengths of 1,1/2 waste pipe clagged to it held down by the fitted strap, it'll do me proud out on the sea & lakes. I must've done his nut in with all my questions but all I got was positive responses  Speciman replied as I logged in to reply to you and said much of what I was going to say (thanks m8) but the only thing I would add is the fitness aspect of kayak fishing. You do certainly need a lot of upper body strength, especially when paddling against the wind and tide. I've improved a great deal over the last year and it's done my dodgy back the world of good! I went out with my younger bro about 6 weeks ago when he got his new frenzie & there was a westerly wind (blowing offshore)of about 15-20mph and the sea was choppy. We were out about 3/4 of a mile and although I was happy, he struggled to get back in & I nearly had to tow him in as he found it so difficult but he's just really unfit & needs to build up to it. Like Speciman said, I also like to go out to fish & not have a work out! If the winds pushing me fast that the drift takes me too far to paddle back in a reasonable time I call it a day. eg: drifting for 5 mins then paddling for 15 mins to get back is not good on a yak. The more you paddle, the better you'll become as I've found out. I seemed to pick up different strokes for different situations but then again I do like to surf on my SOT too so you tend to pick things up a lot faster, LOL It's nice to see someone else involved anyway and someone else to fish with [ 15. 15. Encouragement isn't needed here IMHO, just look at the replies! All dealt with amicably, gentlemanly & without anyone spitting the dummy! What more can a mod ask for, LOL. All top blokes with a good sense of responsibility about them which is difficult to find in any forum these days! I personally think that as long as we as individuals realise the dangers and promote the safety aspect of Kayak Fishing, the lesser the chances are of a "told you so" thread appearing all over the net & news alike when someone gets washed away etc. I think that as a small collective of keen Kayak Fishermen we should use every avenue we can to promote safety in our sport to help it grow. Bill (YY), I'm right there with you on that as you know and will not stop at any time but we must all fire as one gun when promoting the sport & going by this thread it looks to me like we need to try & pressure ALL mags into printing safety aspects of Kayak Fishing whenever there's an article, not boats, not shore or any other but Kayak Fishing is our issue. Simons Boat Angler article was our first sit-on-top article so we could forgive the missing safety article IMO as there seems to be a mis-understanding of some sort but maybe getting them to print something later will be good for us (before it's too late). Maybe if we all write in they'll listen & print something
