  1. I for one have found that Spiderwire is not the Best Braid on the market. I would rather use Power-Pro as it will Hold up BETTER! JMHO!!!! HOPPY4
  2. Thanks Budgie! I still wonder what will be the record here once the actual data is accurately recorded by anglers. The USA is a Vast Land and Water mass with different climates. We have waters that are Very Warm and also Very Cold and each of these are known to contain Carp! Although our Carp were not originally from here, the many strains of these fish are known to have been brought here in the late 1800s. This leeds to the a more diverse and complex fish growth pattern. It is just more consistant that the Euro Carp have been Larger. Maybe, we will have a 70 or 80 pound fish caught in the neer future. JMHO!!!!!!!!! HOPPY4
  3. Chris, Thanks for the reply! I just wondered as we have 30s and 40s here in abundance, but I do not hear of the 60s or 70s. That is not to say that they do not exist, but you do not hear of them. We have many more waters for them to occupy and this is still a Growing Sport here. Carp are not fished for and when they are caught by accident, they are mostly killed. Again, Thank You for the reply! HOPPY4
  4. Just for S & G, How are the French venues producing such LARGE Specimens?????? Climate, Water, Nutriants in the food or WHAT? This is not a Shallow question and I just Wondered? HOPPY4
  5. Janet, Well Done! You and my Mom would have got along Well! She Loved fishing and a Good competition! Enjoy and I Wish you many more Enjoyable days and nights of Great Angling!!!! HOPPY4
  6. Rob, I use them and must say that they are a Good Value for the money! I have 1 Shimano that is my Heavy Duty and 3 Penns, but use these as my everyday Saltwater equipment. Most of my fishing is Jigging or trolling with them so casting is not required, but the models that I do have Cast Very Well!!!!!! They do make Great products at a Great PRICE! JMHO!!!!! HOPPY4
  7. River Commons as they are Stronger due to fighting current!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOPPY4
  8. dr bacardi, I am a Braid Fan and steadfast user. Having said this, I would also suggest that you SWITCH to another brand that I know to be a Better product. Older braids with older rods had problems with guide dammage. I also check my guide inserts before fishing just to make sure that all is well. FORCE of HABIT and some of them are Still GOOD to have!!! The difference mentioned concerning the playing of the fish at distance and under the tip must be LEARNED. The lack of stretch that Budgie mentioned will make setting the hook a Totally different experience. You will LIFT the rod and Hold the spool for the most part (Baitrunner/Freespool) and then start to play the fish. Under the tip is another issue. A softer tip or loosened drag will play at this juncter as the fish make short lunges before the net can be place under it. Once this has been learned, your fishing pleasure will be multiplied many times over. The only time that I have found Braid to be a problem is fishing with a FLOAT. This is due to it's inherient qualities to Float itself. I do have one rod setup for the purpose and it is for this and this alone. Braid is a Great CHOICE, yet to use it and catch fish with it is a Learned activity!!!!! JMHO! HOPPY4
  9. Rudd, You are Luckier than most that have had this happen. Glad you were able to retreive that gear and a fish to boot is Great. Good Story!!!!!!!! HOPPY4
  10. Nice Fish for anyone to call PB!!!!!!!! Well Done! HOPPY4
  11. During the 70/80s here in the USA, many of the more exiotic cofins were being used! Some of these were shaped in the form of Cars, Boats and at least one was a Plane. The Outside was not only painted, but in the shape of these objects were made to conform to the Car or Boat. If it is the Wish of the individual and the Funds are available, then Let them GO in STYLE!!!!!!!!!!!! JMHO! HOPPY4
  12. Yes I eat COD! It must also be noted that I am not in England nor would I be fishing for them in that area. If fishing for them, I would most likely be in Norway. As to the dwendling numbers of fish, I would consider my limit and size to be much more IMPORTANT!! JMHO! HOPPY4
  13. Now that was a FIGHT!!!!!! Congrats to the Angler and Good Luck to any that go to the North for some of this action!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOPPY4
  14. Andrew, They just made it conveinent for the time that we were able to spend together. We will have a Much BEtter time of it when you return!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Steve, Thank You for the Well Wishes and I hope to improve on the PB soon! This weekend was not going to be the time it seems to make an improvement. I spent numerous hours on the water with Saturday as the only day for fish. 4 fish to the net with 1 lost at distance. Average weitght was 8lb. to 15lb. with water being about 45F at this point. The bridge has not begain to serve its purpose as the weather in not Hot enough for the fish to take refuge. At any rate Thanks again to All!! HOPPY4
  15. As we were multi-lingual with the percentage speaking German, I found that this firm provided a Great Service and was Reasonable. I have fished in LovenGard (Central) and also Tors Vagg-Harvaske (Nord Cap)and each trip was as stated on the brochures. I am providing a link to the firm Din-Tours who were the organizers of the packages. You may find that speaking directly with the individual site owners will get a special deal, but that is something that you will need to sort out for yourselves. http://www.dintour.com/ HOPPY4
  16. Thanks to you All Again! By the way, we Look Forward to the oppertunity of FISHING with each of you again SOON!!!!!!!! Petra and I are in LIMBO now about the weekend! One way or the other, I will be wetting a line in SALT or FRESH! Good Luck to all of you who may be fishing and to the others, Get Out There!!!!!! HOPPY4
  17. Newt & Andy, Thank You for the Flowers! I just Wish that we would have had each of you on a Big Fish while you were here. I had hesiated to post the photos as they were going to be resized, but thought ai would at least get one of them on. We have plans to go up to Dover DE this weekend for some Salt. We will see how this turns out and maybe have another report to post. Have a Great weekend and Cheers!!!!!! HOPPY4
  18. As it would be, I spent my Saturday on the water. I was trying to determine what would be the correct place to go on Friday night. The weather would be a factor and it all came down to a prospect of fishing alone with the railing or directly along the shoreline. The shoreline won out and I was out to the WWD once again. The day was long with Very few fish being caught anywhere in the area. From 07:30 until 12:00 I did not have a bite. Nothing seemed to work and I debated the prospect of leaving. I actually baited up with a small perch to attempt catching a Catfish on one of the Carp rods. The wait continued for another 45 minutes and the livebait rod started to sound. I reached over and grabbed the rod to feel a very good pull, but this lasted only seconds as I was cut off! I reeled in the line to find that my Leader was CUT! The same leader as I use for Carp (50lb.) PP was sheered off and the fish had a Circle hook in it's mouth. I baited up again and waited! At 13:45 the rod on the left was hit and it almost was starting to be pulled in. I secured the rod and rolled down on the fish. It Felt GREAT and I told the others that this was a Nice fish. I had no idea How Nice until it was along the shoreline and still making Powerful runs under the tip. Finally, the net was lifted and Isaid Thank you Lord as I knew that it was my BEST fish to this point!!!!! We brought it to the matt and weighed it. The others say that it was 30lb. yet I saw that the needle was just before. We will call it a 29.75lb. capture. For the complete day, 1 fish in the net and 2 bites. A LONG Day, but one that I will not soon forget. HOPPY4
  19. Definitely a Good Source of Information!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOPPY4
  20. Poledark, I did not attempt to condeem you, but actually asked a question of which you answered. The ability to do something does not make doing it right!
  21. poledark, Why would you want to/why would you need to??????????????????????? How could you possibly be able to take care of your rods at that distance? I too have a remote alarm and it is rated at 150 meters, but I would never consider being that far away!!! JMHO!!!!!!!!!! HOPPY4
  22. Line Color? I currently use RED or Green Power-Pro 50lb. with an 80lb. leader or 80lb. line stright through or one of the rods having a 13ft. leader that is 100lb. Power-Pro YELLOW. This weekend, I found that it actually made no difference as the fish were hitting on each of them. I have specifficly changed to PP Red in order to maximize the Invisibility of the line when fish are SHY! Here, the fish are not the least bit Line Shy or for the most part noise shy. Once they start to bite, they block out anything other than the food. HOPPY4
  23. All, Budgie makes a VALID Point when he say that that most of the fisheries continue to Push the known Law of "Kill all that you Catch". Yet, the Majority of the anglers tend to release most if not all Smaller fish and some do as well for Larger fish as well. On the Club waters that I fished from 96-06, I was considered a Maverick due to my Catch and Release of all but Trout and Zander. I would only take what I needed for the table and the rest were released. Many times, I was asked why I released them and I said that I was fishing for the FUN and not for the Kill. When there were competitions, we would keep the fish for the weigh-in and then release them. This was done on the private water that we fished and it made for better conservation and a continous fish stock growth. Now on to those that did keep their catch. These were primarily the Older Anglers and some of the very young that would take their catch home for the table. I could not fault them for it was what they were taught during fishing classes. Catch and Release is becoming more acceptable in Germany today, but there are still the traditional Tablefare requirements for Holidays!!!! HOPPY4
  24. Budgie & Andrew, If you have the inclination, YOU are WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although we are still applying for positions back on your side of the Atlantic, we are going to fish until they pack the gear! Petra and I would LOVE to have you over again!! HOPPY4
  25. That goes to show that not all is LOST! We need to try other baits when fish are SIGHT Fishing. For such as Preds, making the noise and looking different is sometimes all that it takes! Thanks for Sharing!!!! HOPPY4
