  1. cant remember exactly what its called but u can get it at WHS....something like 'advanced pole angling'
  2. 2 ways I use. either hair rigging or super glue.
  3. Ive heard that small thin slices of fresh steak are good for chub (possibly loose feeding mince meat) Has anyone heard of this or even used it?
  4. Im looking to get a new match rod and ive seen the Ron Thompson C-14 13-15' and the Shakespeare Odessa Powerplay 15' Anyone got these rods or recommend any others? Ideally i want one that is 5' or at least extends to 15' and costs in the 50-60 pound bracket. I need it to be fast, suited for trotting rivers aswell as being able to handle some carp....probably looking at lines to 6lb. Thanks, Dave.
  5. Ive got a Shimano Technium Heavy Feeder Multi and its good.....having said that, i broke the 3oz tip being stupid and ive been informed its gonna cost 25 quid for a replacement!!
  6. I had some good success on Saturday at the local river and got 3 chubb out and lost 2. I was thinking of going back this weekend and specifically targetting them with bread/cheese paste a bit bigge hook etc. Do I even need to feed at all? thanks, Dave.
  7. Surface fishing has to be one of the most exciting forms of fishing there is!
  8. How do you make liquidized bread....is it simply bread in a liquidizer? Any other way if i havnet got a liquidizer?
  9. To Kleinboet... I wasnt being paronising, merely giving the relative cost of a license. i dont dispute for one second that angling generally is quite expensive when you consider tackle and bait. The whole rod license thing is very similar to a TV license IMHO, in as much as you HAVE to buy a TV license (which technically is for the BBC) wether you actually watch the BBC or not. You also have to have a rod license wether you fish an EA controlled water or not.
  10. Im all for concessions for the less fortunate but come on! twenty odd quid a year, 2 quid a month, less than 50 pence per week?! I dont care how bad off you are, 50 pence a week is affordable by anyone, especially when you consider what you get for it (a full years fishing). No disrespect here Ian and anyone else that finds this a harsh view but if i were to be honest to myself I cannot subscribe to the thinking that twenty odd quid a year is unreasonable. As far as i know the money is put back into the rivers etc by the environment agency....i have no doubt that this is a rose tinted glasses type of view but i genuinely beleive that the majority is put back. Again, appologies if this upsets anyone.
  11. I was planning on fishing the Don at Sheffield
  12. Ive ordered a couple of times from them and had no problems.
  13. Do you think i stand a decent chance of catching at this time of year?
  14. quote: I need some help making my mind up where to go this weekend. Ive never really had great success anywhere this time of year. Ive got 3 options, a pond, the canal or the river. Would the canal be the best option being as its deep? Ta. Thanks all that posted. Well, i went to the river (Don at Sheffield) this morning... I took hardly any tackle....rod, landing net, hooks, 3 floats, a couple of bombs and some maggots. The day started off pretty slowly, i rigged up witha pretty heavy chub float (3 SSG) as i was intending to fish some of the faster areas. Anyway, after a few hours with limited success (about 20 minows) and after gettinmg snagged a breaking i went to a lighter stick float (4 no 4s) with a size 20 hook. Got set up on a nice glide, a few pouches of maggots in and hey presto, first fish a grayling of about 8oz....nice start. Then hooked into a good chub (good for me) which i reckon must have been about 3lb...unluckily it got me in a snag down stream and neither I nor the fish could get loose. I managed to get down stream with my landing net and free the chub from the snag but obviously broke my line and lost the catch (small price to pay for the fish's safe return). About ten minutes later im into another decent fish, another chub, this time i net it and it must be a good couple of pounds.3 or 4 trots down later and another chub, this time a bit bigger and feeling great on the end of the line. About 30 mins pass and im into another fish, doesnt feel liek a chub this time, feels very energetic.....another grayling! this time must be a pound! (my best ever grayling!) what a great fish. Anyway, as you can tell, i had a really enjoyable day, just walking up and down the river trying out swims. End of day tally...3 chub about 2lb+, 2 grayling, several small dace and about 25+ minows. 2 personal bests on the grayling and the chub. Best days fishing this winter so far!! Just thought id share the experience. Hope you all had some good fishing this weekend aswell. D. [ 24. January 2004, 09:44 PM: Message edited by: dizidave ]
  15. I must admit, I have accidentally killed fish in my time. Although its very rare now. It is usually the smaller fish and even more usually the little perch that insist in taking your hook and sh$%*ng it out the other end!! Nowadays i limit myself to the amount of time i will have a fish out of water. I wet my hands before handling, cut the line as far down as posible if its a really awkward deep hooking. I also ALWAYS put fish back in the water, rather than keepnet if ive had it out for a longish time or had to cut the hooklength (and that goes for matches aswell).
  16. I think ill try the worm on a bomb with loose peices. Hope the weathers not too bad tomorrow.... Ill post on Monday as to how i get on.
  17. Actually thats interesting because i saw go fishing the other night and John Wilson caught some signal crayfish in a trap?! maybehe got permission??
  18. Strange title but hey.. Now that Xmas is over, im back in the swing again, ready for some serious fishing and eagerly anticipating this summers club fishing. But i want to go now! (stamps feet in child like paddy). But obviously the fishing isnt great at the minute. I really fancy giving it a crack on our local river, which i have a couple of times of the past few weeks with limited success. Ive usually produced half a dozen or so decent roach in about 4 hours. Not great but its something. What i always fancy trying when i go, but never do because of the strange pull that trotting has, is ledgering/feeder fishing. Would it be ok to gice ledgering a go at this time of year? Which would be best, ledgering or feedering? i need some persuasion to break the charms of trotting a stick float!!!

    How much?

Well i pay £100 for the year at our club. All ourvenbues are superb and the money also includes coach trips where needed. For a years club fishing (12 matches) i think its excellent.
  20. I really fancy experimenting with flavourings this year, probably mainly on pellets. What i would like to know is, can you OVEr flavour something and put the fish off? or is it a case of the stronger the better? Ta.
  21. As far as i know (somebody correct me) signal crayfish have red undersides, especially under their claws, hence the name signal. I think they wave the undersides when in danger.

    How much?

I dont mind paying at all. What i dont like to see though is a fishery that charges top money (a fiver or so) and the banks are all to pot. When i go to a fishery and pay good money but see the pegs are well maintained and the water is looked after (airaters etc) then im a happy chappy.
  23. I pretty much always use size 10, 12, 14, 16 Preston PR27's For the smaller stuff I use Kamasan (18, 20 , 22, 24) Spade end.
  24. Nice site Lee, very well done.
  25. lufc9999: How does it handle? is it reasonably stiff etc? I really do fancy this pole. How much are spare top kits/cupping kit etc? Thanks for any info.
