  1. I am looking to replace my stolen reels with the same if possible, used or new. Thanks. Dave
  2. Thanks very much for all your responses chaps, some great ideas for me to consider. The more i`ve read and researched the more i think that a simple approach would be easier on my first session. Its going to be a learning curve and i know from experience that once on that fishing curve it quickly turns into a loop. I am going to speak to the bailiff and get some feedback from him. So thanks again for all your imput and i`ll let you know how i get on. Dave
  3. Thanks for the reply, started boilie shopping now, i think i could get carried away with all these flavours lol.
  4. Thanks for the reply, particles, corn, meat, bread and glug are what i would have as standard in my carp kit so to speak, what i am finding is the amount of different priced different weights and different brands of boilies from 100g hand rolled to dynamite 1kg bags, freezer baits, shelflife baits, its quite confusing. I never knew there were so many out there. Regards. Dave.
  5. Hi all, i am farely new to the carp scene and will be going on my first 4nighter in june, my problem is bait. There is so much choice out there i just dont know whether to buy lots of different flavours of boilies or just stick to 1 or 2 maybe a sweet and a savoury. I really would like your input here as i have the least knowledge on this subject. Thanks in advance. Dave
  6. Ha Ha Ha thats well funny, they all are, except the first one which is just brilliant
  7. Yep all food colourings sold at the supermarket will be safe to use and you will be surprised how yellow things go with just a small amount, so just use a little to start and then keep adding untill you get the desired colour.
  8. I would reccomend this place where we spent 4 nights at the end of may fishing. the lodge is very nice and well equipped and is right on the edge of the second of 4 large ponds. we are not into bird watching but managed to spot quite a few that we dont see in manchester lol including an owl whose wing span was probably the whole length of my car peugeot 406 est. http://www.fisheries.co.uk/hamstall/cabin.htm
  9. There must have been an underwater obsticle course
  10. Hi All, just returned from a 4 night stint at hamstall fisheries(burton-on-trent), we had quite a productive time largest fish being a 9lb mirror but it could have been better. I was using my pole for the first time so i knew it was going to be a trial and error thing, and it was lol, whenever i caught anything of any size i kept going for this imaginary reel lol,( a bit like buying aan automatic car after using a manual for years and going for the gear stick) so i have just a few questions. 1. I lost quite a few fish is it best to strike up or to the side? 2. How long should the line be between the tip of the pole and the float? 3. Can i make my top 2 into a pulla bung myself or do i have to buy them already done? Thanks everyone
  11. LMAO at watatoad "Always look on the bright side of life" whistle........whistle.......Love your attitude to life, you have clearly been to the brink of extinction.lol
  12. Thanks mate its about 7 and half feet the top two sections so its gonna be a bit awkward getting that transported without damage so will probably just dismantle top two but keep in own tube coz its a bit messy with the gubbins hanging out lol. Dave
  13. Ahhaa......so it wasnt a blonde moment..... they dont tell you that when you buy a pole tho do they? lol. thanks BUDGIE for the prompt bad news lol.
  14. Ok,......I`ve just elasticated my pole for the first time via instructions from youtube, i used the double bush that i spoke about in an earlier post and ive put in a no.5 and a no10 elastic in it (took me about 2 hrs lol) heres where the fun starts.....I now cant slide the top section into the top 2 because of the elastic, the only way i can do it is if i remove the elastic from the business end of the pole as i am breaking it down(in other words having the elastic hanging out the lenghth of the top section) that cant be right can it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dave.
  15. Wow, Thankyou for such a comprehensive answer Budgie, it all makes sense quicker when you see it in pictures lol, thats a top idea with the "pulla conversion". so i made a decision, i am just gonna elasticate with a normal bung for now to "learn" with. Thanks again.
  16. Can anyone please tell me the difference between a standard bung and a pulla bung, i keep reading how the pole fraternity prefer the pulla bung but i cant find out why? Also, i am new to the pole, not even used one yet lol, but it occured to me that if i was to get a large fish and a tough fight, i could lose my top two sections in what seems to me quite easily, my pole has no twist and lock mechenism in place its purely slot together. Thanks in advance. Dave
  17. Ahh......that clears another issue up. Thanks m8.
  18. lmao i left.....but laid an electronic breadcrumb trail lol. on a more topical note......does "no memory" whilst talking about fishing line mean that there is no strech in the line or it doesnt kink? Or am i just totally wrong again lol? Dave.
  19. LMAO SW, When i was first looking for a "pole" i typed the word into Google and it cast me straight into a world i truly didnt belong in.lol
  20. Wow what a nice place Colin, stunning setting, gonna need 5 and the bonus ball at least tonight tho, i`m off for me ticket now. Will let you know lol.
  21. Hi Steve, booked a 4 night stint here http://www.fisheries.co.uk/hamstall/cabin.htm i am using my pole here for the first time because of the space it offers lol, my club water is the old priory mill lagoon in droylsden and it aint that pole friendly, people do fish it with the pole but they have lots of experience, but they still struggle at times. Thanks for the post. Dave
  22. These replies have been very helpful thanks guys. I have another question ...is there a big difference landing a fish to whether you elasticate the top 2 or top 3sections or is it just a matter of preference? thanks again.
  23. I couldnt have put it better myself Dave, i have 3 top kits whith my pole and i am going to use the duel bush on one of them for the waters that are less than predictable. Thanks again for your imput lads. Dave
  24. Thankyou for clarifying my questions lads, yes, i understand what you are talking about, i suppose its like anything new, the more i use it the more i will understand it and learn it, just one more thing for now, i bought a copy of pole fishing magazine and with it came a free maclin double bush which means you can fish 2 strenghths of elastic at the same time, now as a novice to the pole this sounds like a brilliant idea(simple yet effective)to me, do you think the same or is it just a bit gimmiky? Thanks again. Dave
  25. Just a couple of questions chaps, what is a pole sock for? What does dotting down mean? And i have bought a V roller to ship back my pole, but, am i expected to hold my pole at all times when fishing with it or is there something i can use as a rest. I dont have a seatbox as such(its a stanley tool box on wheels lol)so i cant add to it. Thanks in advance. Dave
