  1. My trout feed producer supplies an expert to offer advice on most things. I can get to take to him because of the quantity of business I give them. He will be your man if you ask nicely. Check your mail.
  2. If you feel the size of the pond is becoming restrictive, crop the population and leave the biggest. If you feed them, feed floating pellets so water quality isn't poor due to un-eaten food. Minnows and small bait fish (live)grow big trout but i'm not sure you will be able to catch enough. Dont let your neighbours know about them or you will find they may get cropped at night! Good luck with your pets. Are you going to give them names?

  4. I dont think the fish take it for what you hope they take it for. Because it is of neutral or positive bouyancy it enters the fishes mouth more freely. Pieces of cork of roughly the same size and shape will catch as well and if not better. (some of the stuff I have smelled is tainted by plastic- Partridge I think) and you will save £££££ for a new pair of polariods
  5. Sorry Julian, we posted together. I'd need to see those thirties before I gave it time. I've seen low twenties in the shallows. Love the idea of fishing with boats and four rods. You don't need to be restricted by silly rules when tackling a place like Rudyard. Good luck to all who enter. Op -JB

  7. Paul, Get your tickets, as ever, on the bank. Hope to carp fish it sooner or later, other than wandering around with floater kit. Anyone seen any? Heard a few whispers. Lovely lake. Op -JB

    Lost tackle

Someone left a mayfly in a tree, dangling down below a yard of nylon, a yard off the water. I have to got 'in to the nips' to rescue a very tired bat with it stuck in it's wing. Last week we saved a duckling and I have known swallows pick up dangling flies. Difficult to know what to do really because we all leave flies in trees. Op -JB

  13. David, We've all taped them off the television. They re-run quite frequently on sky although they never seem to line up the edition with the pre-view blurb. Op -JB

    Look at this.

I watched a "maggot v fly" competition on the Derbyshire Derwent at the Chatsworth Angling Fair at the weekend. As you know the maggot is a banned bait on rivers until June 16th. I decided to have them arrested and went looking for a cop. Fortunatly, for them, I was sidetracked by an indepth discussion on home made floats with Chalmondly-Warner at the Waterlog tent and forgot all about it!

  17. By this time we usually have three sitting swallows around the yard and in the outhouses. This year there aren't any. With the Mayfly hatch upon us they are seen each year above the river, at the bottom of the garden, but I can only see a single bird. Have you lot noticed any less. There are plenty of swifts about. 19. Make a Larson Trap. Use a decoy bird in one compartment to catch another bird in a separate compartment with a spring loaded roof held open by a break-a-way perch. How do you get a decoy bird? Catch it by using a small nest with bantey eggs in the catcher. Tip 1...Clip one of the wings of the decoy just in case the neighbours think it's cruel and let it go. Tip 2...Don't let them go a few miles away. Tip 3... Feed your decoy on dry complete dog food flakes. You will go on trapping for the next month and have twenty or so. I have six traps on the go a the moment. Op -JB
