  2. We had some bloke knock on the door last year cos we didn't have a TV license. Seems he had a list of addresses for people who hadn't bought one. Anyway of the 5 others students i share the house with i'm there the least so we were putting it off. Anyway the guy gave me a caution (? you do not have to say anything but...) anyway i filled out a direct debit form and they let us off. The direct debit thing is weird it just keeps on going about £20 a month for 12 months? They charge you for next years license as well? I had to phone them up and inform them we won't be living there next year and they said i had to ask the bank to stop the dd and when the BBC write me a letter i have to reply with a reason? Bretty

    Float fishing

me and incredibly fast tidal flow never really got on. weed and all that sounds like a nightmare tho probably full of fish. I like the idea of the lure behind the float and in this situaton i'd consider using sand eels instead of a lure. I saw a bloke a while ago catching bass after bass fishing with lip hooked live sandeels on the tidal flow from a harbour. i'd consider using them dead or alive. Bretty
  5. Isn't this sort of damage done when the fish is caught at the 1/2lb mark using size 20 hooks. The the disfiguration then grows with the fish as you can imagine!!! I can't seen how this much damage can be done otherwise, by just one careless angler? This is why some carp fisheries ban hooks under a certain size to avoid catching the smaller carp. Bretty

  11. Oh you mean a poachers rod?! (just kidding!!) It gets cheaper then that!! Pop in Woolworths and they sell kiddies ones for about £5 reel, floats hooks n a couple of leads. Been thinking of picking one up, they look about 5 or 6 foot long. great fun for spinning and float fishing and ridiculously small for travelling! Bretty

  14. Hi all, I know i always go on about the street i live in but i gotta share this one... Left the house today and the street was full of police and people walking around in white overalls. I thought i'd wondered onto the set of E.T. or something. Anyway it turns out, the night before last someone was shot in the head about 50yds from where i live. I'm guessing it was pretty messy because they had forensics about all day yesterday too. Had a chat with one of the local policemen and apparently it's quite common. It's getting to the point where these things don't surprise me anymore. Oh well I move out in 2 months and touch wood I haven't been the victim of a crime in the 2 years i've lived here. Bretty

  16. I guess when i say paranoid i meant makes me think. If i tie the hook on using a whipping knot it is really easy to orientate the line to the hook. So is it best to have no bend at all or have a bend which you can use to an advantage? [ 13 April 2002, 08:11 PM: Message edited by: Bretty ]
  17. I started out sea fishing before carping. When my uncle stuck a carp rod in my hand i was so scared i was gonna snap the thing. They do seem pretty pathetic compared to a sea rod. Really whippy especially when your used to an 8oz beach stick! But once you get used to using a light rod and feeling the fish on the other end which is great fun you do wonder why you use such a heavy rod when see fishing! Bretty
  18. Hi all, Must be all this sun got my fishing brain going. Anyway... When you tie short stiff rigs do you consider the orientation of the hook with respect to the line curl (memory from off the spool) or not? Even when i use amnesia it still has a slight curl to it and it makes me really paranoid. Could this curl be used to your advantage (kinda like the curved hook) to turn the hook point down? or maybe turn the hook so it lies on the side of the offset point? Bretty how i managed not to call this thread the bend of a stiff one i don't know.
  19. Hi all, I don't get to sea fish all that often and when i do only from the shore. I would just like to know which fish are dangerous to handle and why? and the best way to handle them? I thought that sea scorpion looked a bit scarey, and just read about the spines on skate and weever fish. So what other dangers are there? Bretty
