  1. I take it you were on the tees Gary? If you were I on the stretch below which resulted in a hard earned, 2 trout, 2 Grayling & a chublet. If I had known I would have came up with the CD that was in the car for you. Regards George
  2. Where did I hear those words before???? ah yes its coming back to me now.....10 - 11 years ago after buying my 1st aerial, just another as a user..............9 pins later and Im not as bad as some......
  3. Neither, Im not a bedchair type of guy for fishing but last year decided I wanted to spend some extra time on the riverbank over a few weekends so hunted around and found the Carp Kinetic 6 leg bedchair my friend had, extremely comfortable and well priced at £49 and it was a great nights sleep in it also. I bought it from used tackle and have no quams about recommending them.
  4. do bears deficate in the woods? Of course we are
  5. Yep as others have said have dabbled in those myself also and old biro outers that I used to pick up around the office, even used long kitchen matches which you can buy for 80p for 300. they may not be El Natural but always fun to make and experiment.
  6. Looking good mate, add another name to the list of floatmakers Pm sent to you mate
  7. Gary, Drop us a picture would love to see them, you fishing this weekend?
  8. Hi Guys, Every year I normally donate floats Ive made to childrens charities around Yorkshire but this year wanted to do something different being an ex serviceman so am selling on fleabay a set of river floats where the proceeds will be given to help for heroes, if your looking for some new floats then any support would be greatly appreciated. Cheers George Charity Floats
  9. Hi Guys, a few weeks have passed now and I have been using the 3 & 4 vein fluted floats on my trips out instead of my normal avons and I have to say Im more and more getting to like them over my avons...which I never thought Id say. The 4 vein fluted one shown in the pic is the one Ive been concentrating on as its 5BB and just the right size for my style of fishing and compared to my favourite avon (we all have a favourite float) it leaves my avon standing with keeping in the stream and staying the course as well as sensitivity when fish take the bait. I hate to say it but I think I will personally be using the veined floats a lot more than my avons.
  10. Gary, If your around will probably be on swinelairs from around 10am tomorrow morning & will bring the disc just incase you decide to pop along. cheers George
  11. It wont be for a while Gary as my time is limited at the moment with me being on duty engineer then Im off on holiday for a couple of weeks so dont be holding your breath and waiting.
  12. The full length of the tees even down by middlesborough has a very good head of fish, plenty of matches being won with over 50lbs of bream and roach.
  13. Ive fished in many far flung places around the world but Id have to say the river I learned to fish on as a boy "The Clyde" It has everything that I want it to have, no monsters but who's bothered, certainly not me, The scenery just bowls you over.
  14. The Pith would definately go 9bb Gary, I always leave enough room for dropper shots to be added when I shot the floats so I would say it would take another 1bb of shot.
  15. I can actually tell you that Toady was the closest to the weights They come in at: Pith Float 8BB Balsa Float 7BB Even although the balsa is a full 0.5" longer the pith float beats it in the bouyancy department by 1BB. Hope this answers your question about the bouyancy of Pith Gary
  16. Sorry Gary thats a classified secret as the guessing has started I would have to shoot you before telling you...lol
  17. got to catch me 1st Ian........lol, but that would be easy these days Im feeling done in after yesterdays mammoth session of emergency engineer.
  18. No he wasnt a great believer in them, I think the only floats that billy ever really cared about were his avons and in his writings he constantly praises them, Im roughly the same for my measurements, I hardly use them myself I prefer bodied floats over sticks.
  19. Dapper if you look back the forum you will find everything about paints, try this link below http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/humbrol...t-t2236319.html
  20. Gary they are cane & Balsa & Billy's were also dense cane and balsa and he also made balsa & piano wire ones also. Where we have half & half for strength billy built his more of cane and only the upper sections were balsa for sensitivity.
  21. On an earlier thread Gary (bbamboo) asked how bouyant Elder Pith was compared to balsa, cork, etc. Now that I have got a bit of time for a bit of fun have put together a small guess the capacity quiz. I have chosen 2 floats as close as I can get them for diameter & body length with a 0.5" difference. The float on the left is a float made from Elder Pith and Crowquill with a body length of 2.5" of Elder Pith. The float on the right is made from Balsa and crowquill with a body length of 3" of Balsa. My question is what shot capacities do the 2 floats take? Answer is in shot size BB. Hopefully this will reveal how bouyant Elder Pith is in comparison to Balsa. I will reveal all after a couple of days. Happy Guessing

    New Pin

Ive seen this and I personally dont like it, its too open and easily clogged with dirt if you need to rest your rod
  23. Just seen the thread after awakening from a gruelling 21 hours of emergency engineer... Like gary I cut a spigot into the cane before inserting into the balsa & then turning the whole thing, This is an older photograph and will be updated soon with new ones which I am currently working on for a friend in South Yorkshire, thay are remakes of the Billy lane Sticks.

have a look at the pheasant tail duckers under the stillwater section at my website, they are so simple to make you could do it yourself.

Ian, According to his website he isnt taking any float orders, & that has been that way for a couple of months now, I directed you there as I knew he had a couple of pictures similar to the ones you were talking about, you would have to email andy and ask him I havent spoke to andy in a long time so dont know what he is up to, sorry. Which floats on andy's site is it that you like as he has 3 different types that sounds like the ones you mention?
