  1. Hi all, Its hit Friday afternoon and I'm sitting at work.... and you know how your mind wonders at this time of day, anyway, I wondered what peoples worst injurys were whilst fishing? a bit grim I know, but hey.... makes good reading Luckily the worst I've had is catching a size 12 deep in my finger so only just the tip of the shaft was visible! it hurt like **** but after a quick clean, some anti-bac I was all good again and back wetting a line!.... ....however, I am sure some of us are not as fortunate and have suffered far worse incidents, if so please feel free to share Cheers, Stu...
  2. Like Dales said then, he cheated!!! ha ha.... I wouldnt mind cheating like that though....
  3. I think one of the best episodes was when he caught the 5lb + Perch.... fish of a lifetime! it was HUGE! I think the same episode he caught a 10lb + Tench as well - it had a right belly on it!... Cheers, Stu...
  4. Think I'll be doing the same.... off to the Maldives myself on the 15th Oct for Honeymoon for 11 nights.... lovely jubbly.... Cheers, Stu...
  5. This place is only a few miles from me, never fished it, didnt even know it was there.... and now I do, I think I might give a miss for a while!
  6. Thanks for all the replies, I shall definately give a couple of those knots a go and let you know how I get on! :-) it is interesting though to hear the different knots used and why, so worth keeping this thread running out of curiosity! Cheers, Stu...
  7. Afternoon AN'ers.... I want to get some eyed hooks to tie myself, however which would you say are the best manufacturer of hooks and why? Also, which knot would you use to tie eyed hooks to line? Cheers, Stu...

    hi all

Welcome to AN... Never fished on Caldecotte myself, which is ironic as I work just around the corner from it... Not sure if you are a part of the MKAA? but their ticket will get you to most of the waters in MK, and from what I hear there are some good waters. I live in N'ton now so I mainly fish over that way... Cheers, Stu...
  9. I totally agree ATS, couldnt have put it better myself!... Thanks again everyone
  10. Thank you all for your positive comments!... I've lost fish in the past where I was too aggresive with it, so now I tend to use the anti-reverse and back wind when I feel it pulling too much for the hooklength, I try to learn from my mistakes and thankfully this time it worked!... it was nice to feel like I landed it due to looking at how I played fish in the past and failed... Cheers, Stu...
  11. Ha ha... the dark side eh!.... for now, I think I'll stick to the Force and keep on with my usual fishing and if I catch another one, so be it .... and for the record, I dont own a Pin (let the attacking begin!) But I do agree, it was nice to feel the weight of a larger fish, so I might try a little of both... but I wont call myself a Carp fisherman ....... Cheers for the comments Dales! Stu...
  12. Hi all, I managed to squeeze in some time for a day down at a lake on Saturday in the persuit of a nice Tench... Hadnt really had much all day, apart from a bream of a couple of lb. Then about 17:30 it seemed as though feeding had started as I was getting a lot of line bites! When all of a sudden my Polaris float sunk beneath the surface and I struck into what felt like a nice fish!!! I was only on a 4lb hooklink with a size 16 hook with single red sweetcorn so I couldnt be too aggresive with the fish... Anyway, after a good few mins of winding both in and reverse to ease on the strain of the line I managed to get it on the bank, and it weighed just over the 9lb mark... Not a huge fish by any standards (especially Carp) but still my biggest fish to date as I never go out looking for Carp, I prefer the other Coarse fish, like Tench, Perch etc... anyway, a new species for me, a Mirror Carp and also my biggest fish yet, so still gave me a huge smile! Cheers, Stu...
  13. My best Tench was caught on a hair rigged halibut pellet next to some lily pads. I could see the pads moving where the Tench were probably feeding on smalll snails on the stems... lobbed a few free offerings out, then put my hair rigged pellet out, within a few minutes it was on the bank... it was also my very first Tench ever caught! it was early morning, I think I got down there about 6am... fishing at that time in the morning its so peaceful and quiet and simpy a pleasure to be outside to be amongst it, the fishing is of course a bonus too! Cheers, Stu...
  14. Good job as thats my Fav! Not a big fish fan on food.... perhaps you could add an option of None!? - But I chose Carp in this instance... Cheers, Stu...
  15. The bracketed "B" and "C" turned out somewhat different than expected! ha ha.....
  16. .... I've just had that horrible sinking feeling when reading this thread that I still have 1/2 pint of maggots sitting in a box in my tackle bag in my boot.... now, the last time I went to that tackle bag was some 3 weeks ago!.... I'm not looking forward to (a) opening the boot, ( opening the tackle bag, © opening the maggot box! what a muppet!! Cheers, Stu...
  17. Hi Renrag, I've never been fishing on the Broads, but I done a quick bit of searching on the web and come across a "What to catch and how" factsheet on the Broads.... its not that extensive, in fact the only bit to do with Tench fishing is that the Hotspot for Tench is on Malthouse Broad. Not much information, but hope it can at least point you in the right direction. Many thanks, Stu...
  18. A great read and well done! a good days fishing and a nice Chub to finish on....
  19. A piece of sweetcorn! How big was the hook!!!!.....
  20. Hi all, I am keen to start lure fishing for Pike and want to get myself a lure/spinning rod, but I have seen so many different lengths I am not sure which length to go for? Is it better to have a shorter rod for example 8' than one at 10' - what are the advantages/disadvantages between the long and short? I will primarily be doing most of my fishing on lakes, although I will hit the river occassionally! Many thanks, Stu...
  21. Morning all, I am planning an after work session at Emberton Country Park for Tench/Perch/Pike - not quite decided on which species I'll target first yet, but ideally I am looking for a lake that would be best for all 3... Can anyone recommend out of the following lakes which would be my best bet? Snipe Pool Grebe Lake Heron Water Otter Pool I doubt many people have been here so its a slim shot I'll get my answer :-) but AN hasn't failed me yet! Cheers all, Stu...
  22. I wish I had a 3 day fishing extravaganza planned.... in reality I will be mostly wedding planning! without a wet line seen anywhere!
  23. Or to be more precise 2,959 Days OR 422 Weeks and 5 Days - not that I was counting! Maybe wait another 41 days and round it off to 3000 days since opening event! Cheers, Stooby....
  24. Good point Dales, I dont live anywhere near the area, but if I did, I dont think it would be a lake that I would set up camp at for an overnight session! Stooby...
