  1. ok thanks, i will try that
  2. really? i can just see myself setting up at the river tomorrow and being plagued all day by minnows and half ounce roach. If you say they are good though i will try them. What would they be like in the feeder?? thanks
  3. thanks, im not brilliant with bread, but its so simple i might just try it. will say tomorrow if i decide between the canal or the river and let you know how i get on. thanks again
  4. Thanks, but wont they catch me all the little tiddlers all day?? And im not confident enough to use bread yet cheers
  5. the ******s in the tackle shop gave me pinkies today when i know i asked for maggots. I wasnt looking and they must have given them to me by accident or on purpose, whatever, i didn't notice and now have a pint of pinkies. Was planning to go fishing on the river tomorrow for chub but i dont think i can now, i was going to use them in the feeder and with a few on the hook but thats ruined. Cant get back to the tackle shop in time if i want a decent days fishing, so is there any point in trying to fish the river for nice chub and things or should i just leave it and go tiddler bashing on the local canal? Any advice please, what use are pinkies?? I always thought they were meant for the match fishermen to get bites in winter, and were pretty crap for everything else. Cheers
  6. i dont know if it would be infected or not but i think its awful someone can deliberately use barbed hooks, then have a line snap and sleep at night knowing that a carp is swimming round with the hook in its mouth. I must admit ive thrown in the odd ball of groundbait when fishing gets tough on a no groundbait water, but to use barbed hooks when you know full well the consequences is despicable.
  7. Never seen a carp that bad but have caught a few on barbless hooks waters with barbed hooks in their mouth, many towing weights. Some people just dont stick to the rule so it wouldn't surprise me if it was caused by a barbed hook, some people just completely ignore the rules. Assholes!!
  8. thanks, and good luck to you too. what baits and metohds will you be using?
  9. thanks, with all the rain we have had in the last few days, will this make the river easier or harder to fish?? Thanks
  10. Right i was wondering if i could get any last tips from you as i will be fishing for chub on a river tomorrow. I know ive posted several topics but this is the last one, honestly, just thought id be able to get some last minute advice because i know you all have a lot of knowledge on river chub. I have sweetcorn, bread, maggots, worms and other baits available to me so please could you tell me which bait is best and which methods, just general info please. I was going to use 6lb line straight through to the hook and fish a small maggot feeder with three or so red maggots on a size 16. Use the quivertip, bait up a few swims, fish them and move on. Please tell me how to improve it and any other info, thanks Will let you know how i get on

    Snakes!

well you learn something new every day!! Personally have never seen this but i think its really interesting, will have to start river fishing more often because i would love to see it!
  12. yes they are pre-drilled, umm im after anything on them really, hopefully something a bit bigger like nice bream or carp but whatever takes it haha, im just trying them to see how effective they work. On the bag it says you can band them but i thought this would not be the best presentation. cheers

    Snakes!

Really? I didnt know there were snakes in britain that went across water!! Never seen this but would love to, do you know what type they were?
  14. Recently bought a bag of 8mm halibut pellets to try as a huge pack of them was only 4 quid so thought you cant go wrong. Never really used pellets much, especially the large hard ones like these, could you tell me the best way to present them please, is putting a bait band on it and sliding the hook through good enough or do you have to hair rig and stuff like that? Cheers
  15. Never seen such big perch, what beauties!

    Chub

watatoad sadly there are no catfish, everything but catfish and pike, (maybe lures would be worth trying actually) it sounds intriguing but i dont quite understand how you made the fly you were describing? Could you please describe it in more detail if thats ok, thanks. And ayjay i know what you mean, will try it a couple more times then try the river for a chub before i get a bit of an obsession with these stillwater chub!!! Thanks for the advice

    Chub

i think you might be right, apparently there is a good amount of chub in there, up to around 5lb, but the smaller 1 and 2 pound fish are quite common. I probably should just fish it because it is the same license as the pond so i wouldnt be paying anything more for it and i have a lot better chance at catching a chub, its just the challenge of taking a chub out of the pond that brings me back though. Sounds stupid but it is basically an irrigation pond that was filled up, stocked and been left to its own devices, you never know what you will catch there, a tench, bream, carp, eel, roach, rudd, crucian, there is not many fish in there, but there is a real diversity which i like. Thanks for the info and i probably will visit the isle because ive not really done much river fishing before. cheers
  18. I think they breed with roach or bream and hybridize, but if its a true crucian thats a lovely fish. How did you catch it? Never caught one myself, heard they are quite finicky about tackle and things though.
  19. I dont really fish for carp much but i havent caught a canal carp yet and would like to try and catch one. On a smallish canal near me there are a fair few carp, a good enough number to give me a fair shot at catching one of them. What can you recommend would be the most effective canal carp bait? PS- I dont use boilies. cheers

    Chub

oh and just so theres not any confusion watatoad when you said the third area to target between the stream and pumphouse, thats actually the outlet, a little concrete channel where the water flows out, the stream is hidden by the trees in the bottom right hand corner of the pond. Thanks for the advice, really useful

    Chub

    thanks for the info
  22. Improve your coarse fishing is a good all rounder, there is a section on carp which i miss out but most of it is quite good. There is bits on river fishing, lake fishing, predator fishing, pole fishing, loads of tips and info, overall i think its a great mag and definitely worth getting. If you subscribe by credit card you get a free bite alarm set or something like that. But yeh there is a fair bit of advertising but overall a very useful mag.
