  1. Or, as in this chaps case, you could get blown up... Renrag
  2. Sweetcorn, Bread, Worm, Maggots. Take all 4 and if the fish are there and feeding, you should catch. Biggest tip I can give you regarding baits is to ALWAYS have an alternative bait to use. Renrag
  3. I was asked to leave from one once More often than not though I'm encouraged by the staff, especially at the sprout dish, love the buggers lol! Even though I CAN binge, its not really a common occurance, I prefer to 'graze', it seems to suit my lifestyle better. If we do ever meet up, I'll bring some of my Chilli Con Carne, its not blazing hot, rather more of a smooth heat. Its what I'm eating now. WIN! Renrag
  4. Fish, I'm a specialist see? I'll have a crack at all the species available, sometimes targeting Pike and Perch in particular but otherwise I believe I shall be generalising and aiming for the Broads species of Cyprinids. Renrag
  5. I suppose 'the worlds your whelk' when it comes to baits. I'm always hungry Mum reckons I've got hollow legs. Funny thing is I can and have gone for literally days without food without real complaint, but I can't half put it away when I want to I particularly enjoy all you can eat carvery's. Sod the plate, I'll take the trough! Would be great to learn 'stuff' off of you. I have to admit to being sheepish when it comes to light hooklengths in particular. I believe it would be an experience for both of us if it ever occurs! Renrag
  6. I think it makes sense. If an animal is to die, then consume it as nature intended. My Grandad taught me to skin a rabbit (clipped the paunch once or twice mind!), Mum to descale and gut fish, Nan to pluck and prepare a chicken, never eaten (or killed to my knowledge) a reptile but as long as it's edible, I'll try it. *Although I do hold up my hands and admit it was a while since I did prepare any of the above.* The killing is the easy part. Yes I have eaten sheeps eyeballs and bulls testicles AND I knew what they were before I ate them. I like my steak 'still mooing'. Never knowingly tried insects bar the odd fly that slams into the back of my throat at 100+ on the bike. The only thing I dislike so far is Tomatoes, don't know why, but if I'm hungry they get eaten too. I'm only 11st to boot. I like the addition, it works well! Renrag
  7. Stop It! Or at least take me fishing with you... not that you'll have any bait mind... Renrag
  8. Damn, you should be censored, not a fan of seafood but nonetheless, you're describing food porn! I'm feeling all funny... Renrag
  9. Wow, its been giving people 'da edge, innit' for quite some time. Something else to chuckle about at the local pond when I make the mistake of asking a carpist 'what rig/bait?' and they yak for 5 minutes about the 'latest' invention. Just make sure you use a long weight link on a simple paternoster rig of the 'helicopter' configuration. I use leger stops and beads to retain the hooklength, of whatever length you desire, in the required position. As for baiting up, I've used pva bags and even a weightless swimfeeder sliding in the gap between the leger stops to achieve this. I don't know what actual bait to recommend as I use this rig for bream in very silty areas, on the broads, but the rig itself does work well for them. Renrag
  10. Does anyone know if the F1's retain the antifreeze ability of the Crucian? Renrag
  11. 18 too, again got a few American ones wrong, really annoyed that I got the FM station one wrong tho! Renrag
  12. B@llocks to that Rod, I'm goin scuba in your swim, bloomin' fish eat better than I do... Renrag
  13. There's a few in the Loddon/Chedgrave area I've seen and I believe there are a few hardy holders on in Thetford Forest but I can't personally vouch for these. I wouldn't exterminate the grey squidgel but then I have raised them from a few days old. Same with foxes, rabbits, seagulls, hedgehogs to name but a few. I can virtually guarantee that in my situation, you would have a change of heart unless it is a blackened, shrivelled husk. Yes it would be nice to have some more Reds around but I can't believe that killing the Greys will help. You'd never get all of them and it only started with a few in the first instance. Life is as dear to the mute creatures as it is to man. Just as one wants happiness and fears pain, Just as one wants to live and not to die, So do other creatures. My stance is that if you kill it, eat it. Renrag
  14. Not even the big hairy ones that jump? Centipedes however... Renrag
  15. All you need here is a bottle of white lightning and someone to babysit! Glad I'm not a local Renrag
  16. Also it is not uncommon for F1's to be sterile, with roach and bream hybrids, sterility is in the high 90%. Not entirely sure of the figure and its far too vague to be truly accurate anyway. I wonder what the fertility of the F1 crucian/common stacks up as? Then there is the re-evolution theory (stop now if you want to stay awake but it interests me at least). Given enough time and generations in an enclosed body of water, a fully stocked lake of F1's may well successfully breed, F2's being significantly more successful at breeding than their F1 parents and so on to infinity until fertility is optimum. Plus from this single generation of F1 hybrids it would, in theory, be highly likely that 2 sub-species would evolve, one being more crucian like, but maybe comparable in size to the 'original' common (to allow for gene swapping probability) and one bearing more genetic resemblance to commons. It also goes without saying that the possibilty of further sub species being developed, especially in a single species lake, further specialized for an environmental niche that goes unfulfilled, such as Predominant Piscivores. 17. Their feeding behaviour results from heterosis, or hybrid vigor and the need to feed to sustain their accelerated metabolism, also resulting in harder fighting fish besides the extended feeding cycles. To be exceedingly correct an F1 Hybrid is the first generation of a cross between 2 different species of animal such as Common and Crucian Carp and stands for Filial 1 in context. However many so called F1's could actually be F2's or even F3's either due to natural breeding within the body of water, incorrect or misleading parent lineage or just plain disregard/lack of knowledge of the Filial numbering system and what it actually stands for. 18. You need very fresh bread and its best steam it before you pack it in an airtight bag. This makes it 'tacky' and stays together better on the cast. You can also double or triple punch it before setting on the hook to make a more solid disc. This is excellent for river durability especially. Never tried hair-rigging punch. Never had a Carp on it but only really fish the Broads. Had some nice Bream out on it this year already and some beautiful Roach and Rudd too, all on the 'tip. I expect it to become ever more effective this winter from past experience. Renrag
  19. Had a quick scan through your recent posts and found the post for you- http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/Gear-Id...10&start=10 Sorry its in the messy format but should work. Your helpful benefactor was a Mr Mark Wintle and your chosen topic was- All the Gear, No Idea. Renrag
  20. I have the ideals, I have the pride, but I lack the drive to make a change. The government knows how to keep the majority if not comfortable, then within a level of tolerance of a standard of living. As long as the tolerances of the majority do not rise, which inevitably don't as mass apathy is evident throughout our once great nation, then there will be no revolution. For a revolution to work in this cyberspace age, there has to be more than a coup to make it stick. It needs to be a mass uprising, denouncing the current regime. Apathy has played its trump card and as long as we continue to live by 'its' code, then nothing will happen. I, for one, am not willing to demonstrate in any way or form my displeasure with the current regime other than through the medium of cyberspace as with the so called 'terror' laws being vague enough to encompass my displeasure as a form of terror. I will never make a stand even though my stiff upper lip may quiver with anger, for I am a coward in a nation of cowards. Renrag
  21. I see what you're getting at and understand when you get into the self inflicted category it may well be hard to stop at just substance abuse as extreme sports and even mainstream sports are often causes of self inflicted harm. In my ideal world/society there would be a balance. Imbibing and ingesting known toxic or harmful substances would be dealt with harshly but self inflicted injuries from sporting and social activities would not be rewarded as such, but actively encouraged as engaging in these activities releases the same chemicals also released by Drugs eg Dopamine, Serotonin and Adrenaline, but through natural processes, rather than inducing a chemical imbalance by exposure to such substances. Unfortunately I know this will never be as it is far too idealized and as such, is flawed in the same way as Marxism/Communism and would never withstand real world tolerances, much as Humans themselves are flawed by mortality itself. Renrag
  22. I'm inclined to agree with both ColinW and Rod. Also having taken cannabis when a teenager, I know from experience that it can often be the gateway drug to harder and more damaging substances. I never tried anything else myself and stopped many years ago. IMO I believe that alcohol is far more damaging physically and about as disruptive mentally. If all drugs were legalised I can see Darwins Law taking effect rapidly and so clearing our already weakening gene pool of the (barely) human detritus that litters it, leaving us with 'das Ubermensch'. A voluntary genetic cleansing of the human species by self inflicted mortality. And for the record, if I KNEW that I would get no treatment for the diseases listed in Sportmans post, not to mention the other side effects of the currently controlled and licenced substances, by 'SELF INFLICTED ABUSE' then I would quit smoking and drinking alcohol in a heartbeat. 23. I would if I could, but I can't! The old doddery one is only one of four and still going strong though she's needed steroid injections the last few months, think she got an infection and her back legs began to waste but she's well on the mend now. Hope she doesn't get 'roid rage! Renrag
  24. You mean the cat runs like buggery and doesn't hurry back? On a similar note, had a Staffy run into my house a few years back and try to attack my eldest cat now 20yo. Didn't hurt the cat, I didn't hurt the dog but I did hurt the owner the next day. He came round, grabbed me by the throat and demanded that I pay for the stitches on the dogs nose... the cheek of it!
