  1. Cheesepaste is my new favourite bait. I get a pack of that jusrol shortcrust pastry, 150g of stilton and 150g of mature cheddar, grate the cheese onto rolled out pastry, gather up the pastry edges and knead until smooth. If you need to stiffen it (for hot weather or long casting), just dust with flour and knead some more until it reaches the desired consistency. I use a #6 with a biro spring slipped over the shank. Works a treat. Haven't got round to experimenting further as yet. Renrag
  2. Yep, like that one. I use it whenever I get a big 'un (not much then) People may sigh and shake their heads but it makes me chuckle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gciFoEbOA8 Renrag
  3. Thanks Roland, very similar if not identical to the raw data on the metoffice invent map but loads far, far quicker. Much appreciated, will add it to the list on my first post if you don't mind. Renrag
  4. All the good names are already taken- Sputterbug, Big 'S'..... Renrag

I may once again be wrong but I think its now done as a matter of course once they dock. If they were going to eat it then fair play. Just as long its not just the fins 'coz that's just sick and wasteful. Renrag
  6. This thread is turning into an episode from Bottom... Toilet humour at its best! Renrag
  7. So when they say that a 'chod' rig will 'give you the edge', the translation is that 'an unfeasibly large turd will put you on edge'? Or 'in the hedge' in the case of the 'Chilli Bomb'...? Renrag

Lol, I stand corrected. Just doesn't 'feel' right though, I always thought it made more sense being the other way round. I know my gut feeling doesn't match the stats but I still firmly believe in the 'Jaws Mentality' skewing the reality. I think thats why they have to put the disclaimer in. I always listen to my gut. Now it says 'eat pie', so I will. Renrag
  9. Don't creep about (as you do when stalking) as you may suprise them or even appear to be hunting them. Don't worry too much about scaring the fish as they will be used to bankside activity. Cows can also be like hippos in reverse. Try not to get too close if they're drinking from the river, it freaks them out. Renrag
  10. Glad to help, also quite relieved that I'm not the only 'cloud spotter' out there too! Metcheck does seem to be less accurate than other sites but that may well be down to whatever program is used to decipher the data sets. They all have their good and bad days though. Renrag
  11. Thought this might help some people out there. Being into Kitesurfing has made me obsessed with the weather and here are some links to sites I have found on my travels. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/pws/invent/weathermap/ Currently beta version, I find this the most helpful with rainfall patterns and the temperature map. I believe that this is what the BBC recieves as raw data. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/ The same as above but can be simpler and faster to use but does lack the detail I crave. http://www.windguru.cz/int/ Fantastic site, wind biased but accurate nonetheless. Exceptionally useful for Beach Fishing with the wave and swell parameters. Also, I find comparing the GFS data to the WRF 9km data useful for gauging further pattern changes. http://www.xcweather.co.uk/GB/forecast Another mainstay of mine, very easy to use and has most of the parameter settings you need to know on the top-left-hand toolbar, or you can simply type a placename into the top-right searchbar. http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/HOME/ Rarely use this site tbh as I find it somewhat inaccurate for my area but it may work better in yours or be good as a point of reference and also has some interesting features not found in other sites such as lightning strike data. http://www.surf-forecast.com/ Mainly for Beach and Boat Anglers alike. Excellent swell and tide chart. Of limited use to Inland Anglers. There are many other good weather prediction sites out there and even more regarding learning how to decipher it for yourself. I personally enjoy the challenge of looking out the window, reading the cloud types and movement and making my own predictions and seeing how they compare. Yes, I have a lot of time on my hands and am quite strange, I know that. Hope they're of some use to you. Renrag http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ Courtesy of Roland who pointed this site out. Very similar to the metoffice invent map but loads far far quicker. Keep 'em coming.
  12. Would be happy to meet you down Lathams in Potter Heigham and take you through the basics and help you and your boy started. I'm now in Yarmouth but born and bred in Spixworth, I like to think it makes a difference lol. Renrag
  13. I had a blue poo once... far too many 'blue lagoons' at a mates house. How would you class the 'Machine Gun'? As it seems to be a potent mixture of 1 and 7 on the Bristol Stool Scale and usually encountered after a BBQ. I believe the 'Pile Driver' and 'Chilli Bomb' are only accurately measured on the Richter Scale and the VEI (volcano explosivity index) respectively. Renrag

Quote "Tiger sharks can migrate long distances and are second to great white sharks when it comes to attacking people." B@ll@cks! 2nd to Bull Sharks. The GW comes a paltry 3rd. Unless they're talking attack/fatality ratio. But regardless, the GW attacks far less frequently in the first case. Shame, the catch and release mentality it seems, is not prevalent there. Renrag
  15. I hold my hands up, I was a little sh1t too when I was younger but I was never a thief and never did anything to harm the innocent. The worst I ever did to a car was lift the wipers up so they were sticking out, actually did a whole street more than once and some 'knock and run'. But thats about it. Oh, i also moved peoples gnomes around on the road I lived on so maybe I caused some concern that the gnomes may have been alive. Even when being a little sh1t, i still had some respect and didn't do things that would cause harm to others. Someone I vaguely knew from school was killed by a stolen car jumping a junction when on his moped. He was 17. They never caught the driver. Personally I would prefer the thief to have died. Certainly his/her parents would've been torn asunder by grief, but what of the innocents parents? An extreme case I know but this is the ultimate example of what harm stealing a car or bike can do. As to the death penalty, yes, in the heat of the moment, I suppose death by their actions is acceptable. Give them a Darwin. But after that? I suppose it depends on the collateral damage. Renrag
  16. Admittedly, you really do have to alter your technique to get the hook out but as my barbs are crushed, its just a matter of 5 seconds thinking time and then rotating the hook out. With regards to how the bite/fish ratio I think that, in the smaller sizes especially (using a #6 atm), even a breams lips are tough enough to cause the hook to take a hold and rotate into it. I still have my reservations concerning the even smaller sizes and will experiment with the #12's I got, using bait on the hook, as well as hair-rigged. My theory is that for the circles to be effective on a 'soft' mouthed fish, the gap between point and shank has to be of equal or larger thickness than that of the fishes lips to work to its potential. So this makes hook choice a more precise science. What I want to discover is whether or not this will adversely affect bite/fish ratio. To test this I propose to swap over completely to #12 circles for a few sessions and see if this pans out. I can't really be too scientific with the bite/fish ratio but I know what 'feels' about right. Renrag
  17. I usually fish the rivers Bure and Thurne. I rarely change my mainline bs, keeping steady at 6lb for feeder (or 10lb braid) and 4lb for float. My mainstay hooklength is usually 4lb but intend to scale down to 2.5lb in winter or when the going gets hard. I'm proud to say that since I have started fishing again, I have yet to blank but it is summer and it's fairly easy fishing atm. Maybe I will scale down even further than 2.5lb in the future, who knows? Renrag
  18. Err, just so you aren't disappointed by possibly no reply Scopex, check the original posting date of Mick. Welcome to the forum Athur. Renrag
  19. I even snack on the sweetcorn. Unfortunately I now have to bring biscuits with me to stop me eating my bait... Damn... Renrag
  20. Actually some of them certainly do. And also they are sometimes gin clear and much harder to fish than the rivers. It all depends on the time of year and how they are connected to the rivers. Some broads have defined, free flowing channels eg Salhouse Broad, twin entrance but quite small, is usually very similar to the river conditions. Others are nothing more than a shallow silty dyke with little water transfer, eg The Trinity Broads that are virtually a separate ecosystem and will clear and colour in their own rhythm. Its one of the reasons I love fishing them, the variety. I occasionally fish actual lakes because I like catching Carp and Tench, which are not in great abundance on the broads (well I can't catch them anyway lol). Renrag
  21. I do find it entertaining to occasionally correct people fishing the broads who then remark about "muddy puddles" or "carp puddles" being man-made rubbish. The Broads are man-made! Fish where you want and don't knock what others like, especially if you make blinding mistakes like that! Renrag
  22. Would be interesting jumping on the BACK of a BIKE while naked, saying "Hello sweety". I think the same result would ensue. Problem would be if he said it back... Renrag
  23. Sorry dude but you're obviously new to the Ear-Plug world lol (oh dear, I've reached a new low). Personally found them too abrasive on my ear canal if in for more than 15 mins. I wear plugs on my bike, when I sleep (noisy neighbours), when kitesurfing and where I used to work. I found the LaserLite 32dB plugs to suit me best. Trust me, try them and you won't go back. Or try a sample pack to find out if any other plugs suit you better. Can be re-used for a while by wiping them with a damp cloth but are also ultimately disposable. Hope they do the trick though if its only a temporary thing. Who'd a thunk it, plugging ear-plugs on AnglersNet! Renrag
