  1. As I've bought myself a centre pin with the intention of trying out trotting a float down the river. I need to invest in some stick floats. I think the tackle shop is probably going to be best for these for variety. I just wanted to know which types of floats do what? So far I've seen Heavy Shouldered, wire stemmed, bodied etc. I think they are all for different types of current? many thanks Ben
  2. Ignore I've put the wrong title in the post new thread: http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/stick-f...s-t2752155.html

  9. I can sense a little anger towards the Angling trust. For those like me that are new to fishing. could someone tell me what they do? I mean in a non angry way. Or atleast what they aim to do?
  10. I've been kindly donated a pole from one of my work colleagues. Having not used one massivley before, I just wanted to ask a couple of things regarding rig steup and depth. Are pole rigs made to different lengths? (store bought ones) How do you plumb the depth with a pole? is it the same as a rod and line ? Are pole rigs adjustable for length/depth? Or do you simply change to a longer or shorter rig to suit conditions? many thanks and happy new year! Ben

  14. Quick questions for you all. I'm trying to improve my bait/rig presentation. Making my own rigs has been good but some things I am unsure of. When making my own helicopter rigs. What would be the ideal diameter rig tubing? and bead size to match Rig tubing in general, I see lots of different colours. Would a clear tubing be the best neutral? When making a pop up, what would be the best hooklink material to use? Reading this thread from start to finish makes me realise how much you lot have helped me already! thank you! Ben
  15. Thank you so much for your help I went for a nights fishing yesterday, although blanking I can say I enjoyed every minute of it!
  16. I'm not writing the guide, i'm the idiot I have wanted to do some nights since I started fishing just over 3 months ago. I have read various bits and pieces and just want a bit of information on a few bits before I finally put a date in the diary Heres the list of equipment I have acquired so far: Bivvy Gas stove + kettle Head torch Numerous sets of spare batteries Wind up radio (can't beat a bit of test match special during the ashes, and yes I am aware of the low volume levels for avoiding grief from fellow anglers) Loo Roll! And appropriate plactic bag! Thermal Clothing Bits I think I need: Bed chair Sleeping bag Sling Scales I also wanted to know more about lighting up my bobbins/Swingers, I have seen in the tackles shops little glow sticks etc. Do they fit in all types? Baiting wise. I would gather that you primarily bait up before it gets dark? Then chuck out a pva bag every few hours during the night etc Do carp prefer a stinky bait during the night? Some of these questions may be a touch on the obvious side but I need to know what i'm doing Cheers Ben
  17. As a user of the new post button, it's driving me nuts!
  18. Hello all, Back again with a barrage of questions! Carping has been difficult for me especially with the weather changing. Recently I've been float fishing purely just to catch fish which has been good. Generally im using a traditional float, shotted up and plumbing the depth. Which I have been finding a little annoying. Purely because I can't quite get the depth right and I sit there thinking about the depth again or shot setup (too much time on my hands watching the water!) I have only heard of these but don't know where to look. something called a self cocking waggler float? I know the polaris float mentioned a few posts up is something along those lines. I just wondered if there is a minature version? How are they put on the line? Are they fastened on at all? If so with shot? or something else? I'd really like to have a go at these, so advice and help is greatly appreciated
  19. My bobbin broke yesterday and I need to get a new one. So much choice available to me I don't know where to look I'd want to spend under £20, can anyone suggest something for me? Is there a general purpose bobbin or are they specimen specific? cheers Ben
  20. Thanks keith, unfortunatley I will at work that day Th mystery fish has been identified. It was a common bream I appreciate the kinds words from all of you
  21. I found myself with a free afternoon after work yesterday and thought i'd pop down to Frogmore to get first usage of my VAC membership card I had done my research. If I wanted fish, the match lake was the one for me. As I have only been fishing a little over a month. I had a good wander to try and find a quiet spot as I didn't paticularly want to look like an arse infront of all the well organised looking anglers So I settled for peg 15. Messed around with rod, reel, line, hook, float, bait and others for nearly an hour before settling down. Single sweetcorn was bait of the day (well it was all I had brought with me). I was a little anxious as I have been fishing twice this week and blanked both days so it was nice to get a tidy little fish half an hour later. I think (novice alert!) It was either a skimmer/silver bream. Or a large roach? I had caught this type of fish before but am unsure on identity. I then caught the same breed twice the size not so long after. I could barely get the thing in my little net I had along side the big one. Until yesterday I have never caught carp. Tried my best over the past 5 weeks but nothing. I finally got there this afternoon. I now realise why people love fishing for them. What a fight they put up! First one I caught must only be a couple of lbs (common) but I still loved every moment. I was like a little excited kid that I had finally caught a carp. Another couple of fish followed (same as the first lot). Then I hoooked an even bigger carp, a lot larger than the first and fought even more. I took a picture of this one as below. It's no monster but I was think it was 3-4lbs. I wanted to say a big thank you to all those that have given me advice over the past month or so. The amount of help on here really does make this place something special
  22. Roland

    Cheese

I would have thought something stinky but firm, otherwise it could come off in the cast or deteriorate (sp?) quickly. Or use a hard cheddar then cover it in cheese paste
  23. This is my impression of a bolt rig: http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/rig-section/ca.../braid_rig.html I want to use this purely as It doesnt seem to complicated for me to put together. I also thought this was safe for the fish This is my impression of a running rig: http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/rig-section/ca...unning_rig.html I have used this recently and got tangled numerous times. However feel free to enlighten me
