  1. some type of bread?
  2. I've really enjoyed using the method feeder since I started fishing. Micro pellet feed and sweetcorn as a hook bait have given me two pb's (carp and bream). ONe of the things I really like is the ease of setup. No messing around with floats, shotting patterns and loose feeding etc. Just an inline feeder, rubber bead and a swivel
  3. I know everyone has an opinion etc etc etc. But these sort of topics with people getting on their soapboxes, really puts me off this place. Maybe it's because I come on here for fishing discussion
  4. Me again, I've had quite some success on the pol;e and have really got into it. I've just got a couple of shotting questions and a general question. Recently, It has been very windy giving a very hard tow on the water. This has been blowing my rig all over the place, spoiling presentation. What sort of shotting pattern if any can prevent my rig going sideways? Getting towards the hook length, should I be using small dropper shot ? Normally I will just bulk the shotting capacity 1/3 up from the hook Lastly, I fished last week to an island on a match lake. Plumbing up led me to believe that I was fishing on a steep slope. Is it ok to fish on a slope? or would I be more prosperous finding th ebottom of the slope and fishing there? When I fished the slope I had plenty of bites but not many fish!
  5. I have the 7 series feeder and the float version also. Very good reels and great value. Very well built
  6. Paradise Lakeside lodges in york. Been there once already and going in a couple of weeks. Really nice place to fish
  7. I've only ever caught one pike, 9lbs 3oz Carp probably 2lbs or so
  8. Fished a local day ticket water today, known for good carp among other things, has a reputation for being a bit dodgy people wise. I decided to fish the feeder for a change. Hemp seed ground bait along with corn on the hair. All I could catch was blooming snotties! Good ones though. Remembered my scales for a change and the best was 7lbs 6oz. I was using just a plain setup. Paternoster rig to cage feeder. 15 inch hooklength. What would have been a better bait to tempt carp? A lot of them came out. Just not form my line! Notables for the day: Ea baliffs came and checked everyone out. Was nice to see them out as I had never been checked before. They even caught a couple of people without any paperwork. People need to remember that In general we want to hear their bite alarms when they have a bite. Not full volume when clipping up Why do people insist on leaving litter. When I was packing up, two guys in the swim next to me left a ton of crap behind which I went and picked up
  9. Thanks for the tips, no foul hooking today!
  10. I've recently taken up pole fishing, something I really am enjoying so far and my catch rates as you will have guessed, have gone up . One thing that bothers me though is that every trip I have have been on so far (4-5) I have foul hooked at least one fish Bite has been quite normal. Float goes under, I lift gently using my knee, a fight ensues and I either hook the fish in the pectoral or anal fin. The last thing I wat to do is injure fish or even worse, kill one. Is this just bad luck? or am I doing something wrong?
  11. I'm off to fish a canal for the first time tomorrow Plan for the day is to have a carp rod setup and then just float fish in the margins with another. The place im fishing has "moderate boat traffic" and I wanted to know what I could do to avoid my carp rod being disturbed by a boat? I don't really want to hook one!
  12. Quick question, which is the more sensitive tip, red or green? Or are they the same?
  13. Hi all, I'm going to give expander pellets a go and was looking for the easiest way to prepare them without a pump ? I have a choice of 2 or 4mm in the shed. I have only used them as dry and loose feed before. All help appreciated Ben
  14. Evening All, I'm going out to fish for pike tomorrow for the first time in a club match/day. I have got most bits and pieces that are required. A work colleague kindly gave me a coup;e of lures for the day however they have barbed hooks which are no permitted. Is there a way I can take the barb off? Cheers Ben
  15. When I meant better Setup, I was referring to the way the float was being used It was a slow shallow flow so I was trying to use a light float, my gut told me that the heavier alternative would not have moved with the flow? and got stuck on the bottom? I was under the impression that the bait should be trailing just behind the bait until I hold back, a bit like a letter J shape (float at the top, hook at the bottom) Rusty, what are the advangtages of using a heavier float? Thanks for all your help guys
  16. Me again Had my first trotting outing on Wednesday and what a frustrating day it was I started to get the hang on mending the line over the day which rewarded me with a chub just over 1lb. However I think it could have been far greater if I had a better setup and technique. I was using a drennan float 6x4. So appropriatley I postioned 6 #4 shot evenly down the line. I then found that my float kept sinking! Any idea as to why? After a couple of hours of frustration, I bulked the shot together approx 3/4 of the way down from the float. This increased my chances but the float did not run smoothly down the swim, It kept banging about and it was difficult getting the pin to get moving, quite a bit I had to give it a nudge. Just to clarify, before spooling with line the reel spun for over a minute with a good shove from me. Why was my float banging along the river and not gliding. I really enjoyed playing the fish with the pin, I just want to improve so I can catch More!
  17. Thank you for the further replies, it appears i'm not alone. One last question about depth, One of the river has some very sharp drop off up to about 3ft. when trotting do you have to end you trott before the drop off?
  18. Thank you very much, that's cleared my head a bit
  19. Catch as many fish as possible for me. Regardless of shape or size. I may target bigger or specimen fish come 16th June
  20. Great looking fish Anderoo, Is the Thames all free fishing or are there club stretches?
  21. I'll be in the minority here but I really like it
  22. Morning All, I wanted to keep myself moving in the winter months (bloody freezing, even worse if you are a large lad!) I wanted to take up trotting on rivers. This post doesn't come in haste, I've done a lot of reading to make sure I don't ask questions that seem a little silly. Or gain me the response of "Figure it out yourself" or some variant. I understand that this will not come quickly to me, Angling is a skill and this type of angling is an art form. I'm just looking for a poke in the right direction to get myself going. I appreciate those that read the whole thing. I don't like to babble on but I think these questions up in clusters as some of you have seen before! Any nswers would be greatly recieved In my quest to trott, I have a 13ft float rod and a recently purchased Centre pin from Dragon Carp. See thread below: http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/Marco-C...s-t2482834.html It got one of the monday reels it appears and I'm drawn to it with its chrome metal look and the freedom of the mechanism. Really nice looking bit of kit for the money and feels like it could work nicely. So first questions Could any one tell me the purpose of this knob/button shown on the reel? I have spooled on 50m of a 3.2lbs floating line, with the line feeding out of the back of the reel. Next question: Should the line come from the front or the back? or is it a matter of preference? And on to the floats! Thanks to the advice from some of you last week, I bought of selection of stick floats for varying waters that I may fish at the VAC. A couple of questions regarding depth and shotting for you. I'm aware that a float inscribed with "6xNo4" is quite and obvious thing, 6 No4 Shot can either be dotted down the line or bulked toward the bottom. Question: Does this amount of shot sink the hook to the bottom? Or does it purely hold enough weight to balance the float? I ask this question purely related to depth. A river's depth can vary. Last questions (for now!) How do I plumb the depth on a river? Still use a plummet? If the depth varies a great deal, what should I do? Thank you all Ben
  23. I was looking to get a few different ones for different situations. Currently fishing an upper stretch of the river lea. Narrow stretch, slow to mid flow and about 3ft deep going to 4 1/2ft. However i'd like to try other places, so knowing which type of float to use would be handy
