  1. Dont know if anyone can help but I was asked by someone if I can help out with this question... "I regularly fish matches locally in Matlock. We fish for Grayling. A lot of the time this calls for very light tackle and small hooks which I find very difficult to work with. One of my main problems is that when I strike whilst fishing a feeder, the hook length very often breaks resulting in lost fish. I usually use 2lb hook length and 22 hooks. I have spoken to other anglers who are successfully catching fish using 1lb or lighter line with 24 hooks. I know now that part of my problem is that my rods aren't flexible enough to withstand the shock of the strike. I can't afford to replace the rods but what I had thought of was using pole elastic between the main line and the hook length. I think it would work but I can't figure out how to attach the main line and the hook length to the elastic. Can you help please? " As I am mainly into carp fishing and not really up on this I wondered if anyone can help so I can pass it on.

  3. Does anyone know the contact address for "Prittlewell and District Angling Club", and "South East Essex Freshwater Angling Society". I was asked this by someone who belonged to these clubs, but has been away from the banks for many years and wants to return and re join. Any help will be appreciated and passed on.

  6. Thanks for the info guys, its a good start and a great help
  7. Does anyone know who invented the method feeder. Any info on its history will be much appreciated.
  8. As simonford mentioned Aquatels, it is good but also very hard fishing there. Crowsheath is also another one to look at. Have a browse at my venues site, fish4venues - link below. (sorry about the plug)
  9. Planning a weekend session soon but torn between 2 venues Linear or Linch Hill, both meant to be great venues but I heard that Linear gets VERY busy and I dont fancy spending too much time looking for a peg thats not too crowded. If anyone has fished either or both, what would you say was the better?
  10. Congrats on the 23lb'er, a great looking fish. I'm still waiting for my first elusive 20, 18lb 4oz is my pb to date. Well done

    PVA bags

PVA bags are great, but remember you only get ONE go, so make sure it is secured ok with pva string if fishing at distance, and that your casting is accurate enough to put it exactly where you want it. Good Luck
  12. Thanks for the replies guys, as I said my main concern was the carp taking too much line before registering a bite, but Joninitaly has answered that one. I never thought of using leadcore ,thanks for that .
  13. I have never used backleads up to now, but was giving it some thought due to snagged lines when getting a run,(crossing other lines). I have heard that sometimes the fish can move some distance before registering a bite? I just wondered what your views were on backleading?
  14. If you dont want to get involved with the mail order ones (although they are better), try the "Index" starter kit. I have used it and the one from argos and found index's one much better(caught 18lb mirror on it ). Good luck
  15. According to Keith Arthur this morning, there is no Theresa Thom listed at the address of James Street
  16. Dont blame you for not wanting to go back, works out a bit expensive keep having to buy new pole everytime you wanna go Try this link geocities.com/carpfishinginches...g-venues-1.html Good luck on finding one, let us know
  17. Hi Zippy, The only one in Cheshire I can think of is Burton Mere, but you've probably already fished it What sort of radius are you thinking of (mileage wise)
  18. Well I suppose apologys are in order for not looking at previous posts  How far back was it Chesters????
  19. I've just seen an artical on a "spring rig". Instead of a loop at the end of the hair a small spring (i.e from a biro pen) is cut to size and attached and the boilie (or other) is simply screwed on the spring so no stops are needed. A great idea, BUT is it not alittle dangerous for the fish i.e. sharpe edges??
  20. Hi Bilko, Welcome back to the banks. I was like you and had a big lay off but gladly returned a couple of years back. "Aberdeenangus" is right with the beginners kit, thats how I started back. Have a browse the the articals etc of "Anglers Net" and also (sorry for the plug) have a nose round The Essex Angler... http://e-a.0catch.com Good Luck.
  21. Hi Jamie, yourself and Rob are right they where bred for food.. Originally a native of Asia. They were introduced to ponds in Europe in the 12th century as a food for the monks. Mirror Carp - Descends from the Common Carp, they were bred by monks with the purpose of breeding carp with fewer scales to make it easier to remove for cooking. Hope this helps
  22. Has anybody fished Lake John in Waltham Abbey recently? If so how is it fishing and what baits are catching?
  23. Thats great Peter as I was'nt sure how long to soak them. I was going to try a larger one on hair rig and pva with smaller ones? The method sounds good though.
  24. Thanks for that, thought I'd check before I started messing around.
  25. On the pellet subject, I heard that if you soak pellets in sunflower,(or other)oil the pellet takes longer to break down. Is this true and if so how long should they be soaked?
