I just think we ( Anglers ) ,Should be able to catch keep& cook them , With NO permit required from authorities -
Not coarse fishing but ,I had to bring this to your attention caught on tuesday afternoon on my Local river ( TWEED ) Salmon angler Shamus Jennings has rocked the world of fly fishing by landing the biggest salmon of 2013. The huge fish caught at Boleside Beat on the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders, measured 50in long with a 33in girth which Dr Campbell, biologist from the Tweed Foundation, using the prescribed formula to calculate the fish's weight, says puts the fish at 50lb. Shamus who is a part-owner of the beat with his brother Francis, couldn't believe his eyes when he eventually brought the massive fish to the net: "It's taken me almost 40 years to catch a 25 pounder, (which he caught the day before on the same beat) but this is simply incredible," said Shamus who has fished for salmon all over the world. Fishing from the boat, Shamus hooked the fish in Glenmayne pool using a Boleside shrimp that head boatman Nigel Fell had previously created weeks earlier in the form of a tube fly with a local fly dresser. After 35 minutes the fish was eventually brought to the boat, when Shamus said: "This was the first we saw of the fish and we were shocked at the size of its head. "It took us four attempts to get it in to the net which was pretty tough on the nerves!" added Shamus. The fight lasted almost 45 minutes in total before it was eventually measured, photographed and returned safely to the river.

I never knew other fish preyed on them , till i read it in an earlier post,I would imagine they would take a bit of swallowing ,Or do chub & perch rip them apart to eat them. Anyone ever heard of pike eating crayfish ? -

Lots of you , Seem to of caught crayfish . Is this by chance . Do they get hooked when you fish with bait ? Are they hooked by mouth or are they hanging on to your bait with their claws. -

The thing that concerns myself most , is How long would crayfish take hold of a river & infest it. For example , If several crayfish were put in to a crayfish free river , How long before they become a problem Also do they only eat fish eggs & Not fish themselves ? -
It was badly bleeding , When the foundation read the scales they said the scales showed the fish was in it's last year of life , How they could tell that was beyond me. I always return my fish , but if they are dying due to deep hooking then i wont waste the fish.

There was talk if they ever got in to the Tweed system , that they would posion the whole catchment area ,But surely that can't be true ,can it ? Then again Salmon fishing is all they care about on the Tweed , -

Why are they so hated by river bodies ? Can they live out the water ? How did they get here ? Thanks for the info so far guys. I wonder if they could be caught with rod & line , perhaps with a worm -
The threat of Crayfish is drawing ever nearer to our rivers. It is on the door step of where i fish , The river tweed , Can anyone tell me if they have Crayfish in their waters or near to them. Can someone tellme the threat they pose, As the river tweed foundation seem terrified of them getting in to the river system. Also i am told it is Illegal to trap them Even though they are a threat to our Native species apparently ? Also are Crayfish good to eat ?????????
