And of course, he didn't use that for carp! He used his classic Mk IV carp rod Of course, these rods then, were built on split-cane blanks and things have moved-on a lot. That said, I personally don't know of a modern carbon-fibre PMC rod that behaves the same way as those old, and heavier, split-cane rods. I have a Masterline JW Avon rod and it's OK; can't say more than that! So, if you're after carp, barbel and pike, I think you're going to need more than one rod. A half-decent carp rod will do OK for your piking, but for barbel I think something more sensitive would be in order. It's the same old story, I'm afraid, that there's no-way you'll get one rod for all species, or even just roach, barbel, carp and pike. DG [ 29. 5. I think that your ground-bait is only part of the problem. Crucians are quite shy, shoaling species that don't like to feed in the presence of other bigger, bullying species, and tend to move into the swim when the other bigger species have eaten what they want, and have moved-on, and things are much quieter..... so try fishing for them accordingly DG
  6. quote: Originally posted by RUDD: Yes smokers take up hospital beds as do drug addicts, the elderly, babies, children, HIV/Aids victims etc etc ALL are entitled to a bed if they can get it as we live in a free country where free treatment is available to all. The elderly cost the NHS more than any other age group per year but is it their fault they have reached that age due to healthy living. Surely they have bought on old age themselves by not dying!!!!!!!!!!! Obviously you don't understand the meaning of self-inflicted illness ... or the difference between lung-cancer sufferers and, for example, the elderly  DG

  8. quote: Originally posted by RUDD: The point I was making was if a person wants to smoke, let them. That's OK .. just as long as you accept that when any of your family needs hospital help/treatment, and the NHS has no beds free, a long waiting list, and not enough money anyway, or staff as a result, this is because some beds are taken-up by people suffering from self-inflicted smoking-related problems. Same applies to drinkers. And who's paying (in addition to the smokers, of course)? DG [ 26. April 2004, 02:16 PM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  9. Some more fuzzy logic here, in my personal opinion: quote: Originally posted by RUDD: A. If a human wants to smoke, drink or take drugs it's up to them. (never mind the law then, and while driving too  and who pays/suffers when they get ill because their liver & lungs are completely clucked-up, or they kill someone's child while driving under the influence ? DG) B. Why should my children have to breath other people's smoke? C. I am all for having smoking rooms in public places. I'm outa here .

I've always quite enjoyed the columns of his that I've read. Reading his stuff is OK, it's when you meet him that you realise that he's full of .... eeeerrr .. unprintable Budgie was really commenting on the inaccurate reporting by AT of several catches including one by DT, not on DT per se It's me et al who's been hissed-off by DT too many times over the years. 12. Budgie Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I've just checked with the DLVA on-line and the Registration W4 NKA has, I'm afraid, just been bought (allegedly!), rather appropriately, by none-other than:- ______________ DG [ 25. April 2004, 04:57 PM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  13. 20,000 Pike disappear (Just like that!) quote: Originally posted by Leon Roskilly: I know that angling pressure is not good for a pike fishery but this is phenomenal. What's the big mystery, guys 'n' gals  .... it's just Budgie's relatives collecting their live-baits for the Season DG [ 25. April 2004, 09:30 AM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  14. quote: Originally posted by Nugg: .... in all my life I have never heard of Pike being present in the Cut at Worcester ... Hmmm ... time to slip some pike* in, then, methinks ooops, on a Section 30 of course DG *And some zeds for good measure P.S. This may sound obvious, but if it's your first lure-fishing trip on a new water, as Nugg says, you first need to establish that there are pike in the venue and the best way to find-out is to talk to the Match anglers and other Coarse anglers. As for lures in coloured water, I would suggest small suspending plugs so that you can do stop 'n' start retrieves. [ 25. April 2004, 09:25 AM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]

Don't feel too bad about that, Budgie .... it was probably bought by a more deserving half-decent piker with a large wotsit as well as a big motor DG P.S. The DVLA have reserved W4 NKA for you though [ 25. April 2004, 11:22 AM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]

Yeah, me too, but these days I find that nostalgia's not what it used to be DG
