  1. I wonder how many non-believers on AN fish for Ghost Carp. I suppose that makes them hypocrites.
  2. Tigger - I'd like to take your comment seriously but according to your details, you'll be 107 this month so, I'II just assume you are only on here to provoke users.
  3. The problem with people who don't agree is that it's easier to say it's nonsense than it is to go out in the field and research it. Those are the kind of people that don't understand the world of quantum physics because their level of intelligence doesn't allow them to, therefore, they resort to the state of ignorance. Personally, I don't suffer fools gladly and treat them accordingly.
  4. Corydoras - Never mock something you know nothing about. Pooh-Poohing a subject without any serious research only belittles you and makes you look stupid!
  5. Chesters1 - Funny that, I've just got back from shopping myself. No, I can't go over or under Bishopsford Road bridge as it's closed to the public due to renovation. You've been checking up on me, haven't you, tut-tut? Still, what else can you expect from an ex-bailiff. As close as you can probably get to being a policeman. Re the paranormal: Genuine, NOT clickbait.
  6. Chesters1 - Whatever you say ol' boy. Just keep taking those tablets and your neighbours will be safe at night!
  7. Chesters1 - Yup. That's the first sensible thing you've said for some time now. Incidentally, where is this 'rabbit' reference coming from? I had one in a stew once and very nice it was but, apart from that, I don't see the connection.
  8. Chesters1 - That explains it then. The crap comes out of your backside then passes through your wifi and ends up on here.
  9. Chesters1 - Why would I want to block you? That would be very rude. Didn't your parents teach you manners when you were young? And I find you rather amusing at times. Reading you helps me take my mind off things when I'm having a crap in the loo!
  10. Chesters1 - Probably for the same reason we have to 'listen' to your opinion.
  11. To all. I know it's a bit late now, but below is a screenshot of an email I received from 'TackleUK', arguably Britain's biggest online fishing shop regarding the lifting of the fishing ban.
  12. **ATTENTION ALL** If you live in the N.E. Surrey area: Cheam Angling are still trading so live bait is available. Visit their website at 'cheamangling.com' for details. Fresh maggots, worms & castors are available. Orders can be placed at: 'orders@cheamangling.com' for collection or phone: 0208 330 4787. Also, you can order at the shop door and the staff will shop for you. Tight Lines!
  13. Chester1 - Only an 8 word remark? What's the problem, cat got your tongue?
  14. John S - Welcome back to this thread. Regarding your casting, either try fishing away from the trees or, get yourself a small harpoon and 'shoot' the hook to where you want it placed. As for my 'Latin' suggestion, go ahead with it and prove to everyone you're not just a Super Modulator, but an intelligent one at that. You know, that could well be a first on here. One question I have that needs an answer is this: every time I log on I get an instant email telling me that AN does not recognise my smartphone and asks me to ignore the email if in fact it was me that logged on. I get too much crap in my inbox as it is, so how can this be stopped? Also, as a smaller aside, whenever I try to use an emoji on here, the AN system tries to oblige but never delivers; and it never happens to me on any other website. Why is that, oh wise one?
  15. Chesters1 - Continuing on from our earlier conversation regarding chenille for the spool of my Daiwa 120m, I have just spoken to Jim in Swindon and was informed that although he has it in stock, due to the government restrictions he has had to close the shop so it won't be available until mid February at the earliest. Now there's a dilemma for you... the fishing ban has been relaxed but we have no means of purchasing live bait. A classic example, once again, of Boris Johnson engaging his mouth without putting his brain into gear. I've surfed the 'net for fly fishing websites but the problem there is that their version of chenille does not contain a wire insert, so that's of no use. And I can't get any joy from the Hobbycraft website in spite of the fact they advertise a C&C service, as I was contemplating purchasing some felt (which is cheap) and cutting and glueing it to the spool (which, incidentally, also makes excellent backing). Everyone else - Where is everybody when you need them? I suppose you're all breaking the rules by not being at home instead of coming on here with some original suggestions. Tut-tut!
  16. Phone - Firstly, I think I understand what you're saying as your grammar leaves a lot to be desired but, believe me when I say this, I am NOT having a pop at you in any way as I sometimes find it hard to understand what some people are saying due to the way they put it across. Secondly, regarding the last CAPITALISED paragraph of your message, I know it was aimed at Chesters1, but you don't seem to understand my questioning you over what exactly it is I've got to learn, as that was what you advised him/her in that particular message. So I'll ask you again: "What exactly is it I will learn?". I couldn't sleep well last night wondering what the answer was so I look forward to 'hearing' one of your pearls of wisdom. Thirdly, with regards to 'Rabbit', there's certainly plenty of that going on in this thread at the moment, courtesy of Chesters1 and, of course, myself. To all who are reading my drivel - Sorry if I'm boring you but once I've put Phone over my knee and given his bottom a good smack, I'II attempt to get back to the subject of angling.
  17. Phone - I'm still waiting for your response, and what exactly is it I've yet to 'learn'? Also, capital letters on forums are used as a means of shouting so there's no need for that as even though I'm retired, I'm not going deaf just yet! Stop hiding under your bed and come out and join the rest of us, if you dare!
  18. Chesters1 - I'm sorry you are having such a hard time fishing wise in your area. You haven't said whereabouts in the UK you fish but it seems that, judging by your comments, the local authorities are neglecting their responsibilities. The nearest decent river to me is the Thames which has a limited amount of fishing spots that are not interrupted by river craft, and sometimes, its flow can be so fast that trotting requires extreme fitness and is not for the faint hearted. Nevertheless, all good fun.
  19. Phone - Strange moniker; thanks for your welcome. Actually, I joined AN a few years ago and have always kept my account open. I have 'spoke' on here before and if this site keeps a record of its memberships, this information can be confirmed. I never joined up yesterday to get on here, I merely logged in with my existing moniker and password. I prefer to spend my time fishing for real as opposed to virtual fishing on forums. With regards to Chesters1, I intend to play 'nice', as you put it, with everyone as we are all different and we have to respond accordingly. I'm just rather puzzled as to why you felt the need to point that out as somewhere along the line you appear to have misinterpreted something. Maybe you can enlighten me.
  20. John S - Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure of the actual facts due to so many contradictory statements on the internet (unofficial ones, of course). I'm slightly confused about the reasoning behind your tree listing. That must be SOME cannabis you've got hold of there. Now try listing them with their correct Latin names; that should keep you occupied for the rest of the day. Peter Waller - I agree with your statement. The problem for me is that to remain within the 5 mile limit, the only river I can fish is the Wandle and that is so 'deep' that if you stand in the middle, the tops of your shoes remain dry.
  21. Chesters1 - I'm sorry you feel so much indignation towards the EA. At the end of the day, they are only trying their level best to improve matters. I know someone who works for them voluntarily and spends all his spare time cleaning out the River Wandle (S.W.London) of supermarket trolleys, bicycles, plastic waste etc. etc., so not everyone working for them is as stupid as you may think. Just like all large organisations, they are often top heavy with the occasional dipstick who thinks he knows best. For example, I give you the police force. Why don't you volunteer to help them, after the lockdown of course, and give them the benefit of your environmental wisdom.
  22. Chesters1 - thanks for the pensioner advice. Yes, I'm clued up on my entitlement; I've had my £10 Christmas bonus and my £200 Winter Fuel Payment. I wonder if it's worth applying for reimbursement of my fishing license fee as it's not my fault I can't use it. Seriously though, we shouldn't complain about the cost as the Angling Authorities need the money to keep our lakes, rivers and canals clean and fit for fish to live in. They need all the financial support they can get and I for one think they do a grand job considering the financial restrictions placed on them. The government do not consider their needs a priority as Capitalism rules, and support for big business and its sycophants comes before all else. Their selfish outlook towards the environment is what is causing illnesses and deaths through pollution. Their attitude towards the 'hoi polloi' over the centuries was always going to turn around and bite them but, in the meantime, it's us, the workers, that are suffering.
  23. Okay Chesters1, thanks for your response. As for the piccies, yes they look like my spool but wrong colour. If they are from a 123m or a 125m then they won't fit. I will probably purchase the chenilles from Jim's shop but not the spare spool, not at his price anyway. I had thought about making my own (chenille) but even in B&Q, the provision of suitable material does not justify the outlay in terms of cost. I'm not being tight but I am a pensioner so I have to be fairly prudent. I have cleaned up the reel and touched it up with acrylic where it was scuffed as it belonged to the late Norwegian, Jan Porter, great coarse and sea angler and good friend of Matt Hayes. I purchased it from his widow so out of respect I told her I intend catching many fish with it, hence my attempt at renovating the reel to the best of my ability.
  24. Hi. I popped in here for two reasons which are: 1) To see if the rumour that the ban on river/canal fishing has been officially lifted. 2) I have just purchased a used Daiwa Harrier 120m closed face reel that once belonged to a well known coarse and sea angler and, after stripping it down, have decided that it needs 2 new strips of chenille on either side of the spool. Also, I would like to purchase a spare spool so if anyone has got any suggestions, I'm all ears. Incidentally, I'm aware that 'Jim's Reel Shop' in Swindon sells two strips of chenille, but it costs £4.99 + £4.00 p&p, and the price of his 120m spare spools is £18 (not including p&p), which totals more than £30, just over twice what I paid for the reel.
