  1. Buy a cheap rod - dont worry too much. If in the end you r using every week and r enjoying ur fishing then go and spend a bit more for a good rod. James
  2. Thanks for the info - ill do some searching on the net to find out a bit of info here. Tidy James
  3. Hi, Im plannning a trip for our club (30members or so) for Summer 2004. Am looking to go somewhere Devon/Cornwall for weekend, 1 nights B&B, Fish Saturday and Sunday. Any suggestions? Any clubs willing to fish with us and possibly we could return the favour in South Wales.... Any advice on hotels/B&B's/marks...etc. much appreciated. Ta JAmes
  4. 7ft ian golds............. I have a 6ft and 7ft stand. i find the 7ft stand more secure. JAmes
  5. from my experience of hounds, they will eat any crab. As long as they are out in front of you you can catch on peelers, softies, crispies and ive also caught on frozen crab which has defrosted and been kept cold in the fridge overnight before using the next day. lol. Devon crab can be dear and is always as good or big as some local crab u may get. Just concentrate on getting crab and dont worry bout where its from. James
  6. From most of the people i fish with a large percentage say they can cast better in the night. We all believe this is due to us feeling the rod and actually reacting to the rod feel rather than just wacking it and watching the lead. Once u get it right, casting at night is easy. Practice is the key. Also a series of casting lessons will also sort u out. Most problems come from casting techniques as opposed to tackle.......... James
  7. set up your reel correctly and you wont need to thumb it - youll be able to just stop the spool spinning at the end of the cast by looking at the reel and touching it at the correct time. I assume your casting is also fault. I.e. if you are hitting casts low and hard then your probably causing the problem as the lead is still travelling when it hits the water - hence big overun at that time. If you cast correctly the reel will be running very slowly when the lead hits the water. You should have any problems and will be able to stop the reel easily. You may have a little over run but not one bad enough to stop u fishing
  8. carp gear is fine - use u r spod rods - i believe they can cast big leads
  9. fish at night using mudworm and clams - middle of the beach. Pair of waders (chestie). Small but steady surf running. Top tip - dig a series of holes up the beach -fill with unwanted bait...etc. Follow this track up the beach. Keep rigs simple - weighted beads, i.e. gold fly beads help - keep bait nailed to bottom. 3 to 4 oz grip leads....... HAppy fishing James
  10. probably, what type of lead mold are you after - i.e. shape??? James
  11. The main problem is that the chap that does them does them when the boss aint looking or so to speak. The cost of these if u were to approach them direct would be far higher than 30 quid. They are coming out of the side door or so to speak, which is next to the back door. LOL. It can try my best to get what ever you want but you may have to wait a bit at least until the boss aint looking or preferably when he goes on holidays. LOL. I waited over 6 months, but know have a puka 5 and 6 oz mould. Which will last foreever. James
