  1. ATTENTION ALL SEA ANGLERS PROPOSED WHITSAND BAY MARINE SANCTUARY ZONE On the 1 September Cornwall County Council published a consultation document seeking views on proposals to establish a Marine Sanctuary Zone in Whitsand Bay around the James Eagan wreck and the Scylla artificial reef. The document is co-signed by Mrs Helen Richards CC (Environment Portfolio Holder) and Mrs Sheryl Murray CC. Full copies of the consultation document can be seen at www.cornwall.gov.uk or can be obtained from Cornwall County Council on 01872 322642. As always the devil is in the detail and document is considered misleading. The document has not been widely publicised and most anglers are unaware. It should be noted that: o The aim is to introduce a complete ‘no-take-zone’ in the area to include shore and boat recreational angling o In answer to the question ‘will angling from the boat or shore or spear fishing be allowed in the area? the answer given in the consultation document is “No. There must be one rule for all”. o The area affected by the zone is extensive and will cover Rame Head to Tregantle or Rame Head to Portwrinkle (a far cry from what is implied in their covering letter) o The proposal seeks to put commercial interests of those associated with the Scylla Artificial Reef project to the fore o It does not recognise the benefits that recreation angling brings to the South West. It has been estimated that 10% of all visitors come to the area for recreational angling. o The document is factually incorrect e.g. it states there are only two shore marks in the affected zone. This is nonsense the whole of the surf beaches are fished by very many people (a 5 mile stretch). o It does not recognise the conservation efforts of anglers or the benefits that they bring to tourism. o It runs counter to Governmental policy, which is promoting recreational angling. o The scheme will be difficult to police and is a total waste of taxpayers money. Is this what we are paying so much Council Tax for? o It represents more beurocratic meddling in an area fished by generations of local people. The questionnaire has to be completed and returned by 31 October 2004 so time is short. Please do not let apathy prevail. This is a serious threat to sea angling and others and is the thin end of the wedge. Act now, please complete the questionnaire and firmly reject the proposal. Spread the word - make other anglers aware. Completed questionnaires have to be returned to Phillippa Hoskin, Natural Environment Service, St Clements Building, Old County Hall, Cornwall County Council, Truro, Cornwall, TR1 3AY anyone wishing the questionaire to fill out if you email me I will forward it to you buy email

  5. Is it possible that the manufactures of fishing nets will be prepared to kite mark exsisting nets that are owned by us trusting anglers who have already purchased good quality fish friendly nets from manufactures who only want to look after the safety and quality of our fish. I don't think so!!

  8. Hi chesters, I agree with all you said I also agree that you should be elected prime minister. It is however still sad for the RSSG
  9. Hi Chris, well posted it,s not before time either do I take it that all members of the Nfa etc will recieve a copy of this. If not is it not possible to send a copy to all angling clubs nationwide, they would then be able to pass this on thier own members.

  11. Hi all, It would appear I owe Lyn an apology for opening another debate similar to the one she started.Sorry, being new to the forum I didn't mean to say or do anything to offend people I thought that this was the correct way to start things off.I do agree with chesters comment on who judges the judges! very valid point who doe's. Yes I am a NFA coach and I enjoy being able to put my time to coaching youngsters.I have also recently taken over the Junior section of our local club.I don't have to be qualified in any way to do this or to organise days out for our juniors or to do teach-ins but I do think that with the way the world is today there should be some attempt to ensure the safety of youngsters.I don't think anyone will ever be able to introduce a system that doe's there will allways be some one to beat it Chester, Eddie etc are write in what they have said.It really makes no odds wether you are qualified or not at the end of the day it's all about introducing youngsters or adults for that matter into fishing
  12. Take the coleman and the wife to use it then if staying all night the wife could have other uses to keep you warm
  13. Iv'e been reading one or two of the reports on the forum regarding coahing or helping with juniors and one thing that is very obvious is that we all want to help but are somewhat confused about the qualifications to do so.The NFA/jagb do have a difficult job trying to get a one qualification fits all system but I do believe they are trying. All the safegaurds that they are trying to put in place are for the protection of the coaches/people looking after children as much as it is for the protection of the kids. Unfortunately this is the way of the world today too many children have been hurt in too many ways and as a result of this something had to be done. Please take the time to visit the NFA site or speak to one of the officials we are all on the same side we all want to see the future of angling safe gaurded, let's hope that the red tape that is now required doesn't stop us from coaching or looking after junior sections in our clubs.I for one am sure that it won't.
  14. Hello Nathan Personally I don't see the reason for the ban on cat/dogmeat. Ithink its something to do with the fat content of the meats. Whiteacres in cornwall have asimilar ban but I'm afraid it makes no sense to me.The still allow the use of luncheon meat in all flavours allthough it's super high in fat content. But then they do sell lot's of it on site.Could it be a profit orrientated ban!!! Who knows. Better observe it though. You could find yourself banned if you don't
