  1. After restocking my tropical fish tank at the weekend I got to wondering wether its a generic thing. Do many fishermen/women like to keep fish in the home or garden? And before someone says it, no! not to practice on .
  2. Test curves...i dont get it? If a rod has for example a 2lb test curve, does this mean that more than 2lbs of weight exerted through the rod would snap it? surely not otherwise we'd not be able to use lines of 5lb or more without breaking our rods. I truly do not understand the mathematics used when considering test curves when selecting a rod. Any guidelines?

quote: The fisging gear in our catalogues may not always be the top end stuff but as nagling becomes more popular it would be well over £600 Couldn't help but take quotes from your post and stick them together as a summary...it makes great reading lol

    argos

hey ben ....he said "landing net" not "keepnet". Although I totally agree with your sentiments. although the keepnet and landing nets are adequate and well worth 20 quid for both,I'm surprised argos didnt improve in this area, thats the one of the offers they,ve always had. 13. This is the internet home of a club to which i am a member. the site seems to have been down for a couple of days at least. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same trouble or if they had any other info . thx in advance. http://www.prideofderby.co.uk

    argos

I see argos have upgraded their fishing section. There's actually some decent stuff that a self respecting angler might actually consider purchasing. No not those flimsy kingfisher rod and reels sets for beginners lol . I reckon the carp starter kit including rods reels bivvy pods bite alarms bags trolley and loads more all for 250 notes is a bargain , I'm almost tempted. I cant help feeling though that i want to support the humble small guy runing his own business. what do you lot reckon? [ 28. August 2005, 08:23 PM: Message edited by: frodo_uk ]
  15. I have two goals this season catch my first tench which i completed with a 5 ilb fish (not a monster i know but it made me happy ) and to catch a barbel ...still working on that on ...and to be quite honest not quite sure where to start... apart from the obvious like find a river that holds barbel
  16. mine is to catch a barbel too anything over 3-4 lb would make me happy but double figures would be fishy heaven. I'm going to target the derwent, trent confluence in shardlow, derby and a strech of the dove in scropton, between hilton and sudbury in staffordshire.
  17. when the lake was nearly empty there were found thirty seven mostly hungry pike.the bigger ones were mainly flabby empty fish becuase there was not enough food for them. due to the fact that the pond was depleted through predation they decided to to remove the pike from the water. do panic though they where all found new homes with club outside of the locality. full info here http://www.prideofderby.com/
  18. the pride of derby fishing club( god bless em) have listened to their members via the forum on their web site. a few including myself had commented on the lack of sport on on of their ponds, so they did a survey and found hardly any fish.and pride being the responsible club they are published their findings and have just restocked the pond with five thousand fish. the ponds closed at the mo to let the fish settle in but i goes down anyway just to observe kind thing and found they've gone great guns on the place by clearing away all the over growth that was there , building up one bank that had become a swamp and renewing pegs. Brill!!! also they have put across the width of the pool strings attached to wooden posts that look like washing lines every five metres... apparantly they stop cormorants landing on the water (the reason it had become so depleted) does anyone know if they work?? and what you supposed to do if a biggy tears off with your bait for a ride around the lake?? the restocking pictures bye the way can be seen at http://www.prideofderby.co.uk/gallery/thum...ils.php?album=4
  19. whilst on outing sometime ago I pulled out a britsh record out of the local canal.....it was des o'conner if my memory serves me correctly
  20. I've got the best job in the world to do for being a fisherman......a fishing programme presenter  .....you lucky sod matt hayes
  21. quote: It would be interesting to know what effect the mild winter is having. Mild winter!!! I must be in a ice bubble or something fog! frost! frezing fog! freezing fog "and" frost at the sametime and heavy snow and it all started before december!!! and its still going .....perhaps derbys had it worse than most i dunno  frosty
  22. cant think of any of the top of my head , but theres water everywhere when you look, just gotta find out who owns it. although, the humpback bridge mentioned in the previous post happens to cross a canal, this is also p.o.d water as far as stretton, but its near the main rd... noise , fumes ect. but p.o.d own approx 12 miles of the canal and in the stenson bubble area theres good fish to be had , and i'm not talking gudgeon I'm talking 5 lb chub and 8lb barbel and if there web site is to be believed the odd carp as big as 25lb. not your average canal fishing then, and the chub i can vouch for personally. pole heaven mate
  23. anthony just to answer you question its pretty much half way between burton and derby (the A38 conects the too) and you literally have to turn onto a single carriage hump back bridge directly off the A38 then drive down a quarry road to the site
  24. hi (anyone miss me ) lol ... I know it, been there a few times and I'm also a pride of derby member.theres some bream to about five pounds in there and some carp getting upto double figures, in the summer i have been catching small tench regularly but I dont know how big they grow also roach perch chub again sizes unknown and i dont know if theres pike in there or not. However! from what other people have said my guess is, its under stocked and if you want to have a decent day, your gonna struggle! pride of derby have already admitted one of there other ponds is under stocked after complaints on the web site http://www.prideofderby.co.uk , but they are now looking at a restocking programme for that one. highbridge receives simalar publicity on there web site. if i was you I'd try there complex based at shardlow if carp is your quarry or the derwent close by is the dogs whatsits on the p.o.d ticket tight lines.
