  1. One thing over looked is the age of the pike. Any pike around 35lbs would be by definition an "old" fish, so the act of spawning could be the final nail in the coffin. Even the mid doubles could be old fish so the same argument could be used here. Dont forget its not uncommon to find dead carp and bream after spawning to. I am not trying to take any heat from the chuck it and chance it brigade, but if the problem was hooks and traces surely pike would be found dead all through the year. As to when they spawn I know of a water where they dont spawn untill late April at the earliest.
  2. I have 3 regal 4050's and have used 2 of them for the last 3 years with no problems. Infact the third was purchased earlier this year.
  3. Having had several cortisone injections and 6 physio sessions twice over two years with neither working. One session of manipulation on my neck and back gave an almost instant cure. My last bout of tennise elbow was so severe I couldnt even pick up a cup of coffee and I was off work for 8 months. So to poo poo alternative medicine is wrong, doctors arent infallable.
  4. Contary to popular belief tennis elbow is caused by neck or spinal problems, not the elbow itself. I have suffered repeatedly for years with it. The only treatment that was succesful was a session with an alternative practioner who manipulated my neck and spine. Two days later no pain in my elbow.

  6. quote: A lot of people seem to forget that:- a) fish see underwater colours very differently from humans different species have differing visual spectra Is this direct from a fishes mouth or is it one of the varying scientific statements?
  7. I suggest that you read the side of the can and look at the ingrediants. I cant remember which it is but at least one of these is HIGHLY toxic. This subject has come up before If memory serves me correct even the manufacturers state it shouldnt be used in this way.
  8. Diamond geezer I hope thats a pic of me? Well it is the effect you have on. I find it oh so boring all this name dropping. It doesnt cut any ice with me. I'm well capable of standing on my own two feet.
  9. Yes I agree he is highly regarded amongst sea fishermen particularly the boating fraternaty. Unfortunatly by suggesting a blood knot, throws this in to some doubt. Right down to some facts again. 30lb BS nylon is thick, are we agreed? 30lb BS nylon is stiff, are we agreed? 30lb BS nylon would therefore be totally unsuitable for use with a fixed spool reel. A multiplier yes, but how many pikers use one of these? So using this BS would in actuall fact be a hinderence to fishing effectivly. Less distance when casting, line spilling of the spool need I go on. PS HI ugly one, not sure which you mean, Bough Beech? Answering the question of why the choice of name well posting that answer here would just antagonise some people even more. So its best left unsaid. I'll ring you soon, Hows the wife and kids?
  10. Theres one glaring error in the braid tests carried out. A blood knot for use with braid????? This is the last knot for use with braid. To me this completley rates all these tests as useless. I would also feel inclined to question the authors credentials in cattying out these tests.
  11. Diamond geezer its obvious you need to re read my post, where in do I state that you should use 30lb bs mono or nylon? Braid yes nylon/mono no. Perhaps your using boat rods like back in the old days, if so is it a 20lb or 30 lb class outfit your using. It was nice to see that your casual name dropping also states that he doesnt feel the need to use 30lb bs strain line either. Every article book etc I have read and most club rules if there is one, state a minimum of 15lb bs line. If my math is correct then 18/20lb bs nylon/mono is the maximum line strength that most manufacturers would suggest with any pike rod with a TC of 3lb. Using 30lb bs nylon/mono is going to be good for the profits of the tackle trade in supplying new rods.
  12. There were a few glaring omissions in the above posts. 30 lb line this would be braid and not nylon. The figures of 30lb braid and 15lb BS mono is the norm and is accepted as such by all the well known pikers. Using 16lb and 18lb bs braid is akin to using 6 or 8lb mono and is not acceptable. The minimum BS of braid when piking should be 30lb. As far as trace wire is concerned this is very likely to kink during the fight, consequently it makes sense to use a strong wire ie a minimum of 20lb bs. Pike are a very delicate fish and the fact that the right tackle used will subdue them before they become exhausted is the right way to go
  13. Its a long while since I heard such uninformed drivel. Yes they work a 48 hr week. This is the average over an eight week period. No they dont work 4 days. Its 2 days 9 hr shift and 2 nights 15 hr shift, does any other worker in this country work as long a night shift (over time not included) All meals are paid for out of their own pockets, only if certain critiria are meet is there any refund for spoilt meals due to calls. All other expenses for being at work are paid for by the fire fighters. Most of the fire fighters in Wales are not full time but retained fire fighters ie part timers who have a normal job and respond when needed. Its ok for these to have 2 jobs but not Fire fighters????? The whole job discription has changed since I joined back in 1968, yes I am an ex FF compulsory retired on ill health, and yes my ill health WAS job related. Since I retired my health has slowly beeen getting worse my heart problems are probably job related to. From being a job rated as "manual to now being rated as "skilled" all that is being asked for is pay comparative to the private sector. Scoobs "you knew the rate of pay when you joined" does that mean you'd be happy still being paid the rate you got 20 years ago? Most FF are HGV drivers as well. They are required to drive these far beyond the levels expected of normal HGV drivers. As to being on strike during the gulf crises well what do you expect after that hypercritical Dep. PM has had his two pennorth. He is getting his just rewards for his bad handling of this situation.
