  1. Newt, I did here that the Fishing Stripes got a good revue in Sea Angler this month. Regards Nickaway
  2. Argyll, I chose to ignor it. Have a good one my friend. Regards Nickaway
  3. Newt, as it happened we got away quite light in Corpus. I was about to shut the shop and do a runner then it shot north and slammed into Sargent. That last one that hit NC gave you all a rough time so I here. Fishbites is now part of most peoples tackle down here; it was slow to start but is in most of the shops now. Caught some good fish on it. Regards Nickaway
  4. Newt, In Texas we have a fishing license for salt water. The money raised from this goes towards restocking programs. The Red Fish fishery is now one of the best in the world and a lot of it can be directly attributed to the cash raised by the fishing licenses. Texas has got an amazing amount of fishing and wildlife areas. The bay systems which are inside the barrier islands and the mainland is what most people fish, mainly using light tackle and targeting the Reds and Saltwater Tout. The beach fishing is not as popular but a lot of people do fish it. The young lad OZ who caught the Maco last week has just landed, tagged and released another well sort after shark, the Tiger. Here is the report. http://2coolfishing.com/ttmbforum/showthre...p?threadid=8463 Regards Nickaway
  5. Here is a picture of a Red that was caught and released this weekend. In Texas this is a game fish and has what we call a slot, 18 inch to 28 inch is what we are allowed to keep. This one is a 35 inch and was relased. http://www.nickaway.com/nickred121503.jpg regards Nickaway
  6. Everything in Texas is bigger. :-) That shot is taken when Oz was starting to drag the Maco back into the surf after tag and release, the amazing thing about this story is that she was released alive. Most big sharks caught from the beach will be so stressed they die. Here is a link to the full story. 2coolfishing.com/ttmbforum/showthre...30&pagenumber=1 I realize the fish might seem far fetched but here it is not unusual to have about half a dozen 9ft plus sharks landed each year. I regularly catch shark up to six foot on cast bait using 7oz sinkers and Whiting size bait. The bait that most the Texas shark boys use is to big to sling and is taken out by canoe or swam. Regards Nickaway
  7. Check this out. My mate caught this Maco 9ft plus of the local beach this weekend. momentoffame.com/snapshots/MomentOf...Fame/l61937.jpg He was using a 12/0 Penn and hooks as big as your hand. Most of us were fishing for Pompano and Red fish using fishing strips but Oz loves to mix it with the sharks using 30lb baits. To catch a Maco is very rare and this is only the second one I know caught from our Texas beach. (Padre Island National Seashore TX) You can get the full story and more pics from the Breakawayusa.com site on the surf fishing forum. Not trying to steel traffic just thought you would find it of interest. Regards Nickaway ex suffolk boy.
  8. Paulipoos, interesting. It must have been the pigs liver the girls were after also, Ive seen your picture. Sounds like it worked better than Old Spice. Regards Nickaway
  9. Does fishbites work. Well as you know I am involved in the UK company that is marketing the product so obviously I am going to say “Of course it works”. Does fishbites out fish any other bate. “Yes and no” . I was one of the skeptics that would not believe that it would work until I had caught fish on it. As I have a tackle shop in the USA, I am able to fish more than most and in some of the best fishing spots in the world. My local beach is 90 plus miles long and I will fish it three to four times a week. This allows me the opportunity to test a product in different conditions and at different times of the year. My findings after two and a half years of fishing it are as follows. Summer we have an abundance of fish that will feed mainly by sight and action of the lure, so that is how I fish them. October to the following April fishbites can come into its own. The preferred bait by most fishermen in this area along the Gulf coast is Shrimp or for larger species cut bait. (A chunk of fish we have caught, mainly Whiting, normally on fishbites.) I have seen occasions when the fish only want shrimp and the fishbites will not work. I have seen occasions when the fish only want fishbites and the shrimp will not work. So back to my original point, we all know that fishbites catches fish. If you think I would dream of driving a 90 mile beach, or drag my gear a couple of miles over “Shingle Street” beach without a packet in my pocket, you have got to be nuts. I have had many visitors from the UK come to Texas to fish with me as I organize quite a few long casting tournaments in the US. They show the same disbelief when I tell them to use fishbites as bait, I can assure you that once they have used it they are as hooked as the fish. It does work. Regards Nickaway PS. Alan, I had not noticed that you had not mentioned the name of “the product’ in your posts, however I did notice than in most you mention your disgorger.
  10. Here is a report that was posted on SFCCI.org using fishbites. Regards Nickaway http://www.sfcci.org/cgi-local/sfcci.cgi?read=12391
  11. We use it sometimes on lures when the bite is shy, in the states. Some people swear by it. I have seen it turn sea trout on when they have been just bumping the lure. Turns a bump into a bite. Regards Nickaway

    Fishbites

Newt, Thanks for the welcome. I specialize in surf fishing and long casting. However, I do travel throughout the USA. The carp fishing is growing over here and I understand that on the East Coast, South Carolina, they hold some large cash tournaments. When I tell most fishermen of the Carp craze in the UK they don’t understand it as over here it is considered a common fish. I think part of the problem might be that you can get into some big game fish pretty easy in this part of the world. They also have an excellent State Fishing and Hunting management scheme where they release millions of game fish per year. The fishing license in Texas provides the cash for stoking game fish and policing. If any of those UK boys get to Austin Texas, tell them to look me up, (I enjoy the humor.) Corpus Christi. US phone # 361 949 8083. If you would like any help trying to get to fish in Texas, just send me an E-mail and I will try to hook you up. Regards, Nickaway

    Fishbites

I am a Felixstowe boy and now living in the states. I’m involved with Fishing Innovations. I have had a lot of friends come over from the UK and when they ask what bait do we use, I hand them a packet of Fishbites. The answer is the same. What, why or how? After they use it and see it catch fish they then say, “Why is it not sold in the UK?” Ask Dave from Breakaway, Ipswich. He has fished with me and used it. I think Jimmy deserves your support and the product is worth a shot. The product will fish longer than conventional baits and that is one key to it’s success. You can cast it a long way without damage to the presentation. Hope this doesn’t sound too spammy. Regards, Nickaway Nick Meyer. Breakaway USA. TX. Breakawayusa.com or Nickaway.com PS.
