  3. Welcome home Chris. Back to reality with a big bump eh !! That is the only trouble with holidays, you have to come home. Dave
  4. Cheers Dave, Both Nutter and I have fished Portugal before. For a minute there I thought I was not going to get any replies. In Portugal there were some big Gars off the rocks as well, are they in Madiera? Also there were huge ( Mullet ) a few of the guys were after, never did see one only the scales off one, huge they were. Must be some strange Mullet to have the scales the size of an old ten pence. Thanks again Dave. Dave [ 07 April 2002, 11:07 AM: Message edited by: fisherman ]
  5. Right again as usual Elton. Didn't realise it was Mike doing it. I shall wait to hear from him when the dust settles. Dave
  6. What ever happened to the ones that were being printed ages ago ? The orders were placed by loads including myself but never materialised. It all seemed to die a death. Dave

    Madeira

I am going there for three weeks in May. Does anyone know what the fishing is like there. I know all about the big game fishing there but what about the shore, is there any, fishing that is. What might I expect to catch ?Anyone know ! What should I take ? Dave
  8. Good to see you back here Alan. Do not let the buggers grind you down. Dave
  9. All done, I wonder how long we can make that thread. Go on give it a go, you know it makes sense. Dave

  11. We must all be of like mind because I do the same as Alan and Mark. Dave
  12. Do not need any encouragment from you for me Elton. Just get rid of this damn wind.
  13. Rob I will agree with you that it seems to be the same sort of thing going arond and around depending on the time of year. But there is usually something to get to grips with in the mag. As for downriggers, they were out as I recall at least 25 plus years ago when I started boat fishing so I would not really call them a new thing. They were all the rage then but suddenly seem to die a death for some reason, I was thinking of getting one for the tides around here (Isle of Wight) as they do run quite fiercely at times. Dave.
  14. Boilies, Scotties tackle shop is at, 72 Fitzroy Street, Sandown. Good luck. Dave
  15. Hi boilies, as you are down in July and do not want to go to far away, go to Sandown pier. Fish off the end of the pier for Mackerel and the odd Bass. There is a tackle shop in Sandown as well (Scotties) it is in one of the back streets. I shall try to find the address for you and post it here later. Anything else you want to know let me know and I shall see what I can dig up for you. Tight lines. Dave
  16. Can only put it down to large fingers Elton or my typing expertise. (lick/luck) whatever, 45 years is still a long time. Dave
  17. Good lick with the venture Chris. The best is always worth waiting for (45 years) is a long time Dave
  18. Mark, although I have not fished it but often threaten to. Try a bit further round from St. Helens, Priory Bay. It looks very fishy, the beach is covered in lug casts and there are plenty of slipper limpets there as well. Could be worth a few hours on the right tide. No good in the summer mind as there are too many people swimming in the sea. Dave
  19. Hi Dom, As Jangar says you should not go far wrong by asking in the local tackle shop. Any idea how deep the water is off the rocks, could be worth float fishing for Pollack, mackerel even wrasse. If it is shallower work with the tide and try spinning for Bass and Pollack. The sea is your oyster, (sorry about that) Good luck Dave
  20. Don't know about Grayling Newt, they should be in running water really. What sort of size are the trout? Is it going to stay as a trout fishery or are you trying to get rid of them, the Pike will certainly do that for you. Are you trying to change it to a course lake? If this is a trout fishery why change it. Sorry to be a bit on the negative side but what are you looking for in the fishery? Dave [ 24 February 2002, 05:47 PM: Message edited by: fisherman ]
  21. Gaz, £9 is quite a cheap fishery. I was quoted £20 to fish one water where I live. Someone has to pay for the stocking and feeding of the fish, the upkeep of any provisions on site. i.e. toilets, cabin to keep dry and-or warm, pay the wages of who ever is looking after the fishery. If you have found one for £9 go and fish it. Dave
  22. Used to use it years ago Alan down at Pendine Sands. Could get your own there on a good low water with a tub of salt. Never had much luck on it though. Must have been to calm as I found out the best time to use it is after a good blow. Dave

Only one thing Kevo, if it was a fish of a lifetime and you lose it you wouldn't know it was the fish you were waiting for.
  24. Oh well, que sara sara and all that. Dave
  25. Elton the thread is ( flies for fishing ) One other thing, the threads with Mike Conner seem to have gone as well! It was his replies I was looking for. He had put up a site to go to showing pages on how to tie the needle knot. Dave
