  1. quote: Being someone who was buried in paperwork for best part of thirty years I would have to say the information saved is the important factor, not the paper it is on. Once destroyed, then any disecepency in the tranfer of the information could not be checked or verified. Computer records can be corrupted or altered without leaving any trace. These paper records are our heritage and should be preserved at all costs. Isn't this why we have the National Archive at Kew?
  2. Sorry, could not find any information on what is contained on the backs of the cards.
  3. The MOD is planning to scrap the cards index records relating to the those who served during the 1st World War as they believe they are surplus to requirements. The information on the front of the cards has been transferred to online records, but other information about the service personell is recorded on the backs of these cards. How can such historic documents be discarded so easily. Why not go the 'whole hog' and get rid of the originals of the Magna Carta and The Doomesday Book. neither of which have any practical use in this modern world. Could it be that this government is covering something up and destroying the evidence prior to the General Election. [ 24. March 2005, 04:44 PM: Message edited by: MickJ ]
  4. John, give trading standards a call. They will hopefully stop others being ripped off.
  5. A group under the name of 'Consolidated Road Cloggers' might be appropriate. Wish I could get away, mine is just sat there rotting away, circumstances prevent much use at the moment.
  6. All technology is frustrating to me. Can manage to break almost anything that plugs in or switches on.
  7. I shared my Birthday with the late Barry Sheen, same date and same year. Nothing like he was though and would be sacred sh!ttl$ss doing what he did on a motorbike. Roller skates were frightening enough. It's a honour to share the date with such a famous name.
