  1. Some nice fish there Dan, Thanks for sharing 'em with us. I've been having a dabble with some of them Terry Hearn "The Source" boilies. Are they the same ones you refer to? I've caught a few fish on them this year, which is cool because I've only used three of them so far!
  2. I think using backleads makes sense, pinning the line to the lake bed (contours permitting) so as not to spook the fish. I tried ones similar to these for a while & just couldn't get on with them, which I think was a combination of finding them a bit off putting when winding in, fish on or not, plus I found 'em a bit too much fannying around, I like to keep it simple. I now use the flying backleads Elton refers to above. Costers put me onto them a while back & I think they're great. Once on the line above your main lead you don't even know they are there, other than the small splash you see, some yards behind your terminal tackle, when you cast out. Maybe they're not as effective as a clip on backlead, but I think they're a great compromise.
  3. Do you mean like this? If so there are a few fantastic examples to follow, all by the same geezer! What was he thinking??? How many am I allowed?? Here's a little un. I'm surprised he hasn't put his back out!! It's so weird it's almost funny! Fantastic, unless he drops one of course.
  4. Evening Daz As for that Pizza, there's too many knobs & dials on these cookers & it would seem I tweaked & twisted the wrong ones! At least the top was well done! pumpkin
  5. Leon, are you saying you're in there? Is that you waving?? Are you an Ewok????
  6. That made me chortle, but just remember, I only take a good supply of food in case I need to use any as bait.
  7. My Hurricane bag is actually missing a couple of things that came supplied with it. The bag of pegs are now in my Brotel bag & the rather large groundsheet, which I've got covering my BBQ at the moment. So the bag would've been even bigger with them added. It does, however, include the full front panel that you didn't have, other than that, it sounds the same. You've got me thinking now. I may discard the front panel & see if it will then fit in my holdall, if so I'll use the bivvy again the next time the weather forecast is a bit icky.
  8. Evening Spud & Welcome. I think it would be well worth having a read of the useful info. at this link: - CARP CLINIC Which I think will provide answers to many of your questions. With regard to your reels. When I first started fishing bolt-rig style for carp I only had regular coarse reels like you. I used to leave the Anti-Reverse off & whilst I got by, I finished up in quite a few tangles because of the reel handles churning & line going everywhere, having to handline carp in a couple of times & losing many others as a result. Given how little you have to pay for a decent baitrunner now (say £30'ish for Okuma's or Wychwood) I'd deffo consider investing in a couple of 'em. Anyhow, good luck to you fella & let us know how you get on. [ 12. April 2005, 06:32 PM: Message edited by: rabster ]
  9. As promised, here's a picture of my Brotel, with my brolly to the left of it & my Nash Outlaw Hurricane to it's right (& no, there's not a dead body in there). The Brolly & Brotel are both about 5' tall (although the spike on my brolly is bent so it won't push in all the way). The Hurricane is about 4'4" tall. The Hurricane won't fit into my rod holdall, which is why it quickly got the boot, whereas the Brolly & Brotel both fit OK, with the Brotel being much the lighter of the two, but, after a batism of fire (well, wind & rain) I think I need a couple of storm poles. Hope this helps.
  10. Hmmm, I notice you posted that at 9.11am, so it took you 11 minutes to go around the shops in Rhyll & get home? Given the shops in Rhyll I'm surprised it took you that long, but I suppose the roads are busy at that time! As for those receipts you've collected, send them to Anglers Net & I'm sure they'll be more than happy to re-imburse you! So, next weekend - I hope if I post the same topic again (minus the Seychelles bit I hasten to add)that someone will actually have caught a carp.
  11. Oops, been busy & I forgot to do this, soz. I'll do it tomorrow!
  12. Dazler, I don't understand the question, but I've told you before if you want to borrow ONE of my boilies you're more than welcome. 2002 was a good vintage!
  13. I shall take a piccy of it in it's bag & post it up tomorrow. If you put it across your handlebars you'll need a sign saying "wide load coming through"
  14. Quite right Jim, that's why I didn't catch anything! I could've caught plenty, doubles, twenties & beyond, but then I remembered that it was the Conservation Weekend. Those flipping Carp don't realise just how lucky they are.
  15. Are you planning on using it overnight? If so, both me & Dazler said we wouldn't fancy spending a night in it (not together I hasten to add). I think with storm poles & a couple of strategically placed guy lines it would be fine for day sessions in most weather conditions if you can stop them pesky ribs popping outta their holes! Where, on your pushbike, are you thinking of transporting this? Presumably lengthways on the crossbar?
  16. So, we've not got a carp between us! How shoddy is that?
  17. I think you need to have a re-think Daz. Here's my back to basics advice for you: - You know it makes sense - hope it helps.
  18. Brill??? ------------- Possibly  Can it be true, that no one on the Carp Fishing Forum has caught a carp this weekend? Of course it could be that most are still out fishing trying to win that Seychelles trip. Did I mention terms & conditions apply?
  19. Oops - just fecked up, soz [ 10. April 2005, 08:59 PM: Message edited by: rabster ]
  20. , You're onto me there, I actually set the starting time as midnight Friday so you couldn't waltz in with your double & win the 1st prize. As a consolation you get a day trip to Rhyll. Let us know how you get on, BoYo. Has ANYONE caught a carp???
  21. Cheers Costers, so are you saying that whilst that fella's pint is always half empty the glass collector has just taken yours away? Anyhow, judging by replies (OR LACK OF THEM ) it would seem no one else has caught anything, so the Holiday in the Seychelles will have to go on hold. [ 10. 22. Carpy, as you probably remember I gazumped you to one of these off Alan Roe for the Princely sum of £20.00. I used it for the 1st time yesterday. It erects in a matter of seconds (oo'er matron! ) so I was left feeling very smug when I had it up & all pegged out in only a minute or two. HOWEVER, it was quite windy yesterday (up to 20MPH winds) & frankly, without storm poles, it was just not up to it! More than once the ribs popped out of the (all too) little sleeves that they're supposed to locate in. It was only the intervention of a bungee cord & some string that Dazler had for holding up his trousers that we managed to keep the thing in place. Alan Roe's words that "it was a bit flimsy for his liking" (Apologies if I've mis-quoted you) were left ringing in my ears. I shall still get my moneys worth sheltering under it in spring/summer showers, but shall use something a bit more substantial when the forecast is poor as it was yesterday. On the plus side, it's certainly very light & bloody quick to put up.
  23. So, go on, who got the biggest? I blanked, so you've nothing to beat there then! Post on here the weight of your best fish this weekend. Only fish caught between 12 midnight Friday & 12 midnight tonight qualify. The winner gets two weeks in the Seychelles & bragging rights hereabouts! This competition is not open to fibbers or their friends & family. Terms & conditions apply.
