  1. UK Kayak fishing is currently a beautiful place where people can get excited by their own ideas, assess their own take on the risks/rewards, research new ideas through the internet, and unless someone can show me otherwise, have not lost anyone yet? I really don't want to be told what i should or should'nt be doing by those tuned into seeing my hobby as a cash cow. Despite the lack of Orgs toadminister UK kayak fishing, (All there to keep people "safe" rather than make a living for those involved of course..) The lone idiot kayakfishers seem to have done a pretty good job of not being killed.
  2. I will watch and consider the Vice Admirals views but am curious as to why other views have been erased? "Bad language"?!
  3. The under 10m fleet was a creation of fisheries "management". Quota the same. Licences the same . Now, 20 years later, the experts in boxing, classifying and marketing get in on the act and persuade you to give up all your rights for a wee mirror with a bell?
  4. Weird how difficult it can be to make a reply on this forum at times
  5. Who is this "public" then? Your right, the fire-station i was thinking about (http://www.thecourier.co.uk/News/article/6081/quiet-balmossie-fire-station-row-reopens.html) apparently does 4 call outs to real fires in 3 mths, rather than the 4 "incidents" in a year i mentioned. Thing is its within 5 mins of a huge station with all the gear and the only reason (imho) its still alive is that it happens to be situated among those very vocal on what the "public" are. Guess they would also describe anythting they are not as "the sticks?" Chris
  6. With all due respect Steve, Your merging of the concerns of Fire service staff with that of the coastguard just looks like personal interests coming to the fore. The coastguard / Fire Fighters/service/Police/ Ambulance all developed in their own higgledy-piggledy way in response to real needs but if i understand your view they now have a life of their own which over-rides their purpose? Suppose i believe a Coastguard station in Shetland is really important (its 200 miles North of Aberdeen and dealing with lives and traffic that is hugely important to the UK economy and environment imho) but also can't see the sense in keeping open a local fire-station that does 4 call-outs a year while theres a huge station within 5 miles. There will maybe be pointless Coastguard stations that are doing little as well. Lumping them in a " cause" serves who exactly? Chris
  7. Who are the MCGA? Sorry but i lose track of all the name changes..
  8. Just an opinion like , but more and more people are going to go to sea in the UK as technology produces eg wetsuits that keep you as warm as if you were swimming in the Med (even now warmer than some of my foreign trips tbh), new developments like kayak fishing (which i read is very fast growing ?), the interest in surfing, problems with going abroad, etc, etc, and to top it all much of our coastal waters are stunningly beautiful and unique both above and below the water. These new sea users will quite rightly demand the "emergency services" use technology they have and understand and those providing the "Rescue" (using their money ) should adapt to that, rather than the other way around?
  9. Not actually much of interest , or need for any "raising of the alarm" that i can see? Its a Joke of some kind?
  10. That looks like some vision of angling hell to me anyway. We seem to be getting ready for the mincing machine by the very people who "represent" us.
  11. Ignore box concept seems to employ a stream of celebs putting everything from items of interest to celebs, to other items of interest to viewers interested in celebs into the ignore space. Can't remember a single one punting the common fisheries policy into room 101 or whatever. . Has the UK really got that stupid? Which celeb do you think is going to solve fisheries btw?
  12. The fish will look after themselves as long as we look after each other and stop putting a huge layer of stupidity and expense on everything we think we kno and start thinking for ourselves and stop looking at adverts. Just mho. For instance; Greenpeace, whatever it started as, is now a corporate brand that will act it its own interests above all else. That's something we are all familiar with i'd guess. MCS produced the first really good photographic guides to uk inshore life back when no one knew what was what down below. Respect for that but who exactly are they now? They are pushing for reserves but what happened to the science they used to do? RSPCA seem to be the real nutcase lot, living on the decent efforts of past members ,only escaping current real scrutiny because we have all been brought up with the notion they are a force for good. Any angler group that ties themselves to these groups and ADVERTISES them are off the their heads imho. They will and are using you. Just an opinion but i'm old enough to remember how cozy Greenpeace got with commercial fishermen and how quickly they stabbed them in the back. Chris
  13. That's a politically incorrect question Elton. Discards just vanish and are not significant at all. Seabird populations have ignored them, the benthic critters often lack eyes so missed them landing. Safe to put discards in the ignore box..
  14. Kayak, paddle, rod, common sense; sorted. Agents and Salesmen? Don't want them aboard myself - the whole joy of Kayak fishing has been leaving all the Salesmen, agents and bullshitters ashore while i get to enjoy some true peace and quiet a mile off. The moneymen sense an opportunity and wish to clarify and classify. Sod em. Chris
  15. Go on, tot it all up and reveal just how much money you removed from the UK and sent to China..
  16. Not a lot the last few years:- kayaks cost a lot to begin with then pretty much zero running costs; I don't see the sense in spending big cash on fancy rods or reels that will get dunked in saltwater when £20 cheapo rods and a couple of old reels are more than compensated for by being sat above fish.. Sight fishing summer Cod will quite happily take a hook with a bit of cheap wool attached as readily as the ££££ lure from ££luremaster.com; as long as thats lure is being dropped where there are cod.. Under a £100 for this year i'd guess. Chris
  17. Read the "piece" and despite wading through paragraph after paragraph of "message" I am still none the wiser what this £100,000 grant is actually about. Lots of opinion and the usual "we are all doomed kind of stuff", but it would be nice to be told just what this money is being spent on that has caused this level of concerned interest/hysteria.
  18. So a big deer was killed and the media circus gets to feast That stag will feed more people than Jesus and his fishes I'd guess.. . Pretty much same old same? Least the media "royality" can only bay for some ones death rather than order it in the way things used to be.. I used to beat as a teenager and loved it. Great day out in the woods, great fun with the other beaters. The shooters were mostly on some close but "other" experience that involved them being ****'s to human beings out-with their expensive trip; ie pretty much everyone. Big shock after my first days beating was seeing the tipper truck being filled with the days "catch". " That was 30 years ago. That was my experience as an "Angler"/"beater"/"Scot"/"Conservationist"/"Tory"/"Labour", whatever any of those actually are..

  20. Given we live on a tiny bit of rock whose last "original"wildlife was crushed by an ice sheet/hunted out by our ancestors ,which would seem pretty much the natural order of things.. How come that instead of discussion about that we have idiot bodies like these demanding legislation to capture their fav moment in time? Just an opinion like
