  1. Not sure if I've posted this link before on here but it'll do no harm to repeat it especially after the recent tragic events. There are some big seas heading into our South West coasts from the Atlantic. Check out the buoys in the approaches to the West coast of Ireland. The link is to the National Data Buoy Centre (NDBC). This has a clickable map of data buoys around the coast. The data they record is sea/air temp, wind speed/direction, wave height/period etc, etc. All good to know stuff if you intend going anywhere near or on the sea: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/Maps/United_Kingdom.shtml
  2. [ Slosh is there too. Nice one. I really do need to sort out a pair of new glasses (not to mention a bulk buy of brain cells). Apologies. Glad you got there anyway. Now about the Labour Party and the anti- terrorism laws,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  3. The Abu 7000 C3 is here at Marsh Tackle. Could't find the Daiwa though: http://www.marsh-tackle.co.uk/images/reels/7500/7500C3.htm Don't forget the shoe box
  4. Little piece on the BBC web page on the above title. American Scientists have been scouring restaurant prices as far back as 1860 (Was only a little boy then ) and forged the link between high seafood prices and stock levels. Interesting reading. Using this system Cod will be out of the reach to most of us without a Bank loan! The link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4364984.stm
  5. I Emailed the guy at Glowtec when I first got the stuff to ask what type of base paint was needed. He said 'Any white really. The brighter the better'. The Lumi paint is simply water based acrylic with Lumi powder added so there's no real problem with reaction to oil paint etc. I did however paint on an extra Plasti-kote clear varnish over the top coat to beef it up. Tried it first on the Goyle and he had no complaints. Didn't break out in spots or anything How it will last through the flexing of my rod tip when I get those thousands of bites I don't know. Will it crack or not? Keep you posted. Oh yea, Ebay search is 'Luminous paint' and the seller is 'glowman02' (Glowtec really). His 'buy it now' price is cheaper than from the main Glowtec site. Hope it helps.
  6. I've been using the battery tip-lights. Improvising a quick-clip out of a piece of PVC tube and glueing the light fitting to it to save the hassle of fixing it to the rod and it is still a pain. So,,,,,,,,,, I spotted the product linked below. Luminous paint from Glow-Tech. The lighter the colour the longer the glow. Also cheaper the lighter. Anyway, I painted the rod tips of two of my rods as per instructions and materials. (A cover coat is required for exterior use. Well you wouldn't fish indoors anyway would you!). So far so good. Doesn't glow bright for 20 hours as per tin but does glow for a hell of a time after 'charging up' with a bright light. I painted a Gargoyle's eyes (cruel or what?)in the garden and before the Summer and he's still staring brightly through the night even after all the rain on him. That's just normal daylight charging! Cost about £15 in total for the 2 jars off Ebay but it goes a hell of a long way. My rods have had 3 coats each of the Lumi paint (Aqua blue) and I've hardly gone a third of the way down the jar. Probably get five or six rod tips done in three coats each with the amount. Will it last? Let you know. So far so good, according to the Gargoyle. The link: http://www.glowtec.co.uk/
  7. I agree Ian but like the BMP it is a step in the right direction and better than nothing. Big things are happening at the moment and there could be a fear of stepping on too many toes at the same time. I know from personal experience that the full-time staff of the SWSFC are very helpful and extremely supportive of conservation, especially where Tope and Shark are concerned. Hopefully this is as I said 'a first step' toward complete protection.
  8. The South Wales Sea Fisheries Committee are preparing to look into the possibility of implementing MLS's for Tope and the Smooth-hound families. Article from the local newspaper here: http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/displayN...tentPK=13265060
  9. 112 is a handy number to have as it will access the Emergency services not only in the UK but also most of Europe but like any other number you do need a connection. Regarding the message circulating (on this board and many others) about its magical properties, here are the facts from London Transport: Press release: 27 July 2005 Misleading e-mail A misleading spam e-mail has been widely circulated which claims that by dialling 112 you can get through to 999 even without having an available signal on your mobile phone - this is completely untrue. Dialling 112 only works if you have a signal on your mobile phone A London Underground spokesperson said: "This e-mail is incorrect. "The 112 number does link people through to 999, but it only works if you have a signal on your mobile phone. "If you have no signal bars on your phone, it will not work. "It will not divert to a satellite signal. "Even with a satellite mobile phone (which very few people have), you would need to have a clear line-of-sight to the satellite. "You would have to be outside, not in a building or a Tube tunnel. "The 112 number is the European equivalent of 999." Ends
  10. Oh God not again!!! Please don't be fooled, it's a hoax that could cost your life by relying on false information. No signal equals just that, no signal. Press release from London Transport: Press release: 27 July 2005 Misleading e-mail A misleading spam e-mail has been widely circulated which claims that by dialling 112 you can get through to 999 even without having an available signal on your mobile phone - this is completely untrue. If you go fishing in places with no signal, take a couple of flares or at least a torch (at night) and learn ... --- ... Your only chance
  11. Thanks for the 'Heads up' Ken. Was considering going there tomorrow. Shan't bother if it's going to be overrun with cocklebed rapers. Let's hope they don't spot the few Razorfish that are left there.
  12. Left out 'to'. Tired, been fishing (blanking) this morning. Heads on desk time me thinks.
  13. quote: And they think all we have here is sheep. [/QB] Did you have bring sex into it?
  14. Try telling the thousands of Dolphins and shedfull's of Whales down our way at the moment. See the sights and read the news on the once in a lifetime (No fish for me next year  ) at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4162578.stm
  15. Welsh Salmon Anglers are up in arms over the Irish Drift Netters. BBC report here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4130816.stm
  16. Big whoops,,,,,,,,, I'm operating on WST (Welsh Summer Time) and we don't have a Summer just a slightly drier Spring. So yes it is on at 10 BST and called 'The wrecking season' But  Pulp Fiction starts at the same time on Sky One so I'll have to fight (plead and whimper a bit anyway) with the Wife to watch it. Apologies.
  17. There's a prog on BBC 4 tonight at 9 (Friday 22nd). All about the great man himself and his life. Promises to be good. Trust the Beeb to have it clash with 'Coast'
  18. CT reels are the ABU's you want for distance casting. The CS versions have the level wind which will get in the way of a long cast to say the least. I got the Sportsmag for Snowlines last year at a fantastic price and apart from a minor cosmetic flaw have had great service with it. Much preferred by Tournament Casters. The easiest of the 'high performance' reels to use.
  19. Ordered one yesterday from them after finding my local Tackle shop had them up for £45,,,,,,,,,, then after a search on Google I found them, too late, at Glasgow Angling Centre for £25!!!! If I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all.
  20. 23506??? Just checked the schematic. It does show where it goes in the service guide I sent you. I also remembered having the same problem myself. The spring in question. It's shown in section 13 of the guide. Basically it sits horizontal leg down on the Mag Plate with the bent bit pressing against the end cover. Gives a springy security to the Mag Plate.
  21. Check your Hotmail Email Scotty. Hope the info is there for you. Complete illustrated Mag service sequence. It's for the CS Mag but mostly the same bits.
  22. Meetings going on at the moment to discuss a first Welsh 'No Take Zone' around the already protected island of Skomer in West Wales. Decision to be made on Friday if agreement can be achieved. Read all about it on: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_wes...est/4223687.stm
  23. They get your Email address via your Ebay ID and then send you a very plausable mail saying you've been upgraded/attacked or whatever and ask to re-enter your Ebay/PayPal details. Neither Ebay nor PayPal request these details in Emails. Same type of scam used for Bank accounts etc. Never put your details in, just forward the mail to the spoof dept of the 'true' address of whoever it was supposed to be from. Real Bank, real Ebay etc.
  24. The thieving gits are at it again. Just had an Email from 'suspended@ebay.com' telling me that someone had tried to access my account and would I please input my details, username, password etc, on the form provided. Have I got 'thicko' tattoed on my forehead or what? I know it's not fishing but there are a lot of people on here who use Ebay. Just thought I'd forewarn. Nearest I've been to a catch in ages.
