  1. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Dec 14 2006, 06:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I prefer a single hook through the nose or top lip. I don't use trebles as I worry about the fish being unable to feed if the line breaks. The treble could hook into top and bottom lips and seal the mouth. It's just a personal thing as trebles are very effective catchers and I don't think I've lost more than a couple of fish due to the line being chafed but 1 is 1 too many if it can't feed. I'm with Norm, 6/0 J hook for livebaiting with mackies and larger livebaits, top lip hook, being carefull not to hook to far back of course. Match the hook size to the bait, a 6/0 through the top lip of a small wrasse will leave your bait dead and also presentation won't be the best. Scott
  2. Hiya mate, 1, Yes it's legal, despite what the anti's will have you believe. 2, Small wrasse will be fine, as long as you know thats what the Bass are, or could be feeding on. 3, Favorites would have to be Mackies and Whiting, (and don't be afraid to use a 12" fish), depending on the area and time of year, pout also a firm favorite. Its all dependant on conditions and how the fish are feeding, in some areas local to me they will feed on small wrasse, bullheads and blennies etc, these are then caught on light gear and used as livebait when drifting. Scott
  3. Done also, And forwarded to everyone I know that has or has a remote interest in boats! Scott
  4. Terrible news for the local fishing community , two losses in a week is just shocking, plus the young lad a few weeks back. My thoughts go to all the familys, must be especially hard at Christmas Scott
  5. Best of luck Davy, you sound like a busy boy! Hopeing for a half decent cod to be honest, Poole bay has a habit of throwing up the odd lunker, always a good head of whiting about, 3lb fish ar not uncommon, chance of a ray and the ever present congers, real mix bag really, but I'll be going big pennell and a load of squid to try and temp my first cod. Scott
  6. Cheers Norrie, Hope you get out soon mate, sure it will be worth the wait, just getting out there will be enough for me this weekend (but then don't we all say that!) Scott
  7. Looks like we finally have a decent weather window for the weekend, well down here anyway, fells like ages since I last got out, probably 4 weeks at least! Have been invited on a charter trip on Sunday, first one for a while and its nice not to have to organise everything for a change. Not sure where we're heading, but probably be after Cod, Whiting mainly. Roll on Scott
  8. Nice one Yogi, Big Rossi fan mate, he's a legend. Shame we went all the way to Valencia to watch him end up on his arse in the gravel, but thats racing! Get yourself to Donnington next year mate, think its 24th June, great weekend, can't wait already! Scott
  9. Moto GP is my other passion, love it. Heres a pic of me and my mate at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia back in October, check out the smoking 125 machine in the background! Scott
  10. Great work Stan, Remeber you gave me some photos and advice earlier in the year when I was re doing one of my beach rods, took me a while but got there in the end Scott
  11. Like it You tube rocks for cheering yourself up! Scott
  12. 'its called fishing (aint it)' I wouldn't class it as fishing to be honest, feathers should be kept for catching mackies, and launce, that are in a reasonably plentiful supply. Just out of interest, what class set up you use?
  13. Wish we had those powers when I was in the RN!
  14. No further questions your honour Scott
  15. Give the guy a break Rabbit, wouldn't of thought you'd need that much experiance to whip out a few 4" silvers.
  16. Thats so spooky, my mate was telling me about it last night, thought he'd had one to many jars! Scott
  17. Buy new goldfish , could prove expensive! Scot
  18. White ragworm works well down my way, if you can get your hands on them that is! Scott
  19. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Dec 5 2006, 06:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not yet but fishing the Poole Cod Festival on the 28th so there's hope yet. Think the comp should fish well this year Norm, loads of colour in the water here, pressures on the up and temperature down, plus no ones been able to get out for a fair while! Scott
  20. Ahhh, the beautiful 'art' of cod feathering, How very sporting Scott
  21. Im pretty sure I'd scream like a small girl if one of those landed in my lap, spiders.......... Scott
  22. Great work Glenn, fine achievement, you deserve that fish considering the amount of time you spend hunting them. Well done mate Scott
  23. Only ever used them for conger baits during the winter when the mackies have done one. Normally just hook out the backbone and stick them on whole, never used them for anything else. Scott
  24. Been meaning to give up for a while now, this really is the kick up the ar#e I've been waiting for, and I'm sure many smokers feel the same, so even as a smoker I'm kind of looking forward to the ban (ish!) Scott
