  1. The MAJOR thing that they did wrong was to leave her in the room while they enjoyed a night out! I find that very odd! Alan.
  2. Are you talking about baitrunner type reels ( free spool reels that allow fish to take line while the rods are on a pod etc ) or normal fixed spool reels? Alan.
  3. Can you take a few pics of the other sections, and post them on here? Alan.
  4. Exactly the same thing happened to a mate of mine a couple of years ago, CAB came up trumps for him in the end but it was a very stressful time for him and his family whilst waiting for it to sorted out. Tell your daughter to see CAB asap before going back to the garage. Alan.
  5. The handle looks very similar to the one on my TriCast 2x2R feeder. Alan.
  6. Bread flake tipped with a maggot always worked well for me when I used to fish the fens - PB Bream 8lb 1oz with quite a few 7lb+ Alan.
  7. I was just puzzled as to why some fisheries were actively encouraging it's use and others had a total ban! I have never come across a groundbait ban, it is common to see it's use regulated to use in a feeder etc around these parts but not a total ban. Alan. I could see that 1 coming Alan.
  8. Whilst on a weeks fishing holiday I noticed that some waters had a ban on on cat food, can anyone explain why please? Alan.
  9. I don't know if this has been posted while I have been on a weeks fishing holiday but while in town this morning I noticed that Bennetts are now trading again, it is only via their website at the moment although goods can be picked up from the shop by prior arrangement. Alan.

This is the same way that I do it too and it works a treat Alan.
  11. Give these guys a call, Calcotts Tackle & Yorkshire Pole Centre 32-38 Wicker Sheffield S3 8JB Tel : 01142 722 817 All clothing has 50% off due to the recent floods, the clothing was not affected as it was well above the waterline. Alan.
  12. That is true but it is was / is their easy payment plans that made Bennetts so popular, I don't know of anyone that used to buy from Bennetts using cash etc unless they had a special offer on. They have had some very good staff over the years but of late they are very poor when it comes to knowledge about various aspects of our sport and the equipment that they sell and as mentioned above they have lost their way of late with probably the poorest selection of gear of all the big tackle shops in the area which is odd given their size etc. Still very sad to see them in this state though I am in the market for some new tackle and I have / will be visiting Calcotts again this week to get some bargains If anyone else in the area is in need of some gear then Steve needs all the custom that he can get at this time, get down to his shop and grab a bargain Alan.
  13. Elton, I am sorry to say that it is true I will really miss Calcotts, a real Aladdin's cave with enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff I have had the odd bargain from Bennetts in the past but generally they were very overpriced and the staff were not very helpful. or knowledgeable! they will still be missed by many anglers in Sheffield though if they do close as many a local fisherman has started off with a Bennetts kit on the never never. Alan.
  14. As you say it's not just the loss of stock it's the time it takes for the insurance people to take a look and assess the damage / compensation, loss of trade, and the time it will take to rebuild the store! and they will still have staff to pay! Several feet of water and mud swept down the streets where Bennetts and Calcotts shops are situated! this will take several months of hard work to repair. Tons of quality fish inc barbel, roach, bream and chub etc were left stranded on the streets of Sheffield, a crying shame especially as the river Don has improved so much over the last few years, it will take several more years for the stocks to recover Alan.
  15. I walked past Bennetts yesterday afternoon and it looked totally trashed, all the shop fittings were laid either on the pavement or in skips! It's not certain at the moment if they are re-opening or not! Calcotts ( Yorkshire pole centre ) just around the corner from Bennetts are closing down due to losing almost their entire stock Both shops have been trading for at least 4 decades to my knowledge!! and it will be a very sad loss for all Shefiled anglers if they do not re-open. Alan.
  16. I met Keith at Gold Valley a few years ago and he is a really nice bloke who can talk for England and although not everyone would agree with some of his opinions his heart is in the right place and he is prepared to fight for what he believes in and for that he has my utmost respect. Alan.
  17. Meat flavoured paste works very well, the trick is to get the consistency spot on, it needs to be really soft and it works best on the pole as soft paste is impossible to keep on the hook when casting. Alan.
  18. As already suggested, buy some bacon grill from the supermarket. I would put the slices through a blender and use it to make a meat flavoured paste. Alan.
  19. Hi Dan, I have now bought 1 from ebay, sorry. Alan.
  20. Very interested!! Anyone out there? Alan.
  21. How much inc postage for the platforms? Alan.
  22. I will try phoning the Environment agency as I can't see that plod would be the slightest bit interested as it seems to take them days to investigate a burglary They are also starting to refuse giviing out crime numbers for certain crimes inc car related thefts etc as due to the low number solved they just add to the statistics Alan.
  23. Hi Dean, Welcome to the forum I have never fished at Kiveton waters myself, I don't know if you are local as you do not state a location in your profile but if you are then call in to the tackle shop at Handsworth in Sheffield and you will get first hand up to date info and some top quality bait too Alan.
  24. Another vote for Polybags. Alan.
  25. I went walking along the tidal river Trent yesterday afternoon and saw 2 guys fishing ( different spots ) I challenged 1 of them who was on my side of the river and he could not have cared less, shrugged his shoulders and just carried on! Who should be contacted in instances like this? and do they actually do anything about it? It is not the first time I have seen this, I saw several guys night fishing last year in May, the land owner had given them permission to fish Alan.
