Hi challenge, i presume that those 70 stone of cod in this instance where all knocked on the head and filleted to pieces? i dont want to go over old issues but is it not about time some of you old ex commercials promoted a bit of conservation? was it realy that necessary to take all those fish because of pure money? could those anglers not except just taking a couple each and putting the rest back or are we talking of greed once again and f*** tomorrow? cheers....................

They cant wurzel, if there is **** all there mate can they? as an example local club match the other day, 25 seriously good match anglers fished for five hours resulting in three bootlace eels and one just sizeable sole, conditions ideal with a nice bit of colour from a nice s/w chop on a rising tide, that equates to me as CRAP!! fishing and to any other person who as an ounce of sense, the problem has always been the local nets around here and i say balls!! to any license unless nets are got rid out to atleast a mile, preferably three! why dont you fishermen grow up and accept some of the blame for making this country's shoreline a barren desert for fish stocks, until you do i dont see any point in you guys trying to have constructed dialogue with sea anglers what so ever, ta ta................

Hello ken I pop over on there about once a month just to see if there is anything a lttle different going on and if so leave the odd comment, but mostly it is the same old same old apathetic people on there most of the time posting the same old repeated crap! (same as the magazines) you know things like, how can i cast further!! and how can i dig lug!! and a few pictures of people looking chuffed with there catches of immature cod and bass (excluding the odd good sized mullet that is) Also,obviously posts made by those who have a financial interest in the hobby are going to be a little biased towards things being a lot rosier than they realy are (cant blame them i suppose) anyway elton got duped by a few sponsers perhaps? to move the political/conservation side of things and so here we are, fwiw i feel both parts of the forum has suffered a little for it and i can see a steady gradual decline for the sea side of things on anglers net for the future i am sorry to say, much like the rsa in general maybe the apathy as got to old stavey at last? see ya...........

Hi all A farmer friend of mine has a small spring fed lake on his land located in the sussex weald, he has given me the ok to do some work on it and if everything is alright i will stock it with carp tench and roach and use it as a private little fishery for myself with the family and few friends. First would it be right to get the water tested? if so can anyone tell me where i could get this done? the water looks very clear, the farmer recons that there is a lot of copper in the streams that feed it but i think he might mean iron? also only a very small part of it receives any direct sunlight from spring to late autumn as it is shrouded by a canopy of trees blocking the suns rays, should i get rid of a lot of this? i dont think there is any fish already resident as it looks lifeless and there is not much plant life either, apart from a few reeds in the margin at the end where the bit of sun gets, the bottom appears to be clay in between the heavy covering of dead leaf's, the lake is only about half an acre and i stick tested to a couple of feet out from the bank and there seamed a couple of foot of water detph. I would be greatful for any advice about fish stocking for a lake of this size and what size and species would be best suited? i would hope that carp would be ok in it along with a few tench and maybe roach but i am all new to this sort of thing and i have'nt a clue but i am willing to learn as i go on, so fire away anyone please i am all ears thanks, stavey.......

Hi andrew I will pm you later about meating up for a bash defo i know exactly what your on about as far as those tiny knocks are concerned ( especially from those very wary big fish) had a few yesterday when i went down the sussex ouze for a short spell but i failed to make contact with any fish, maybe next time? it looks like the weather is going to hold for the rest of the week and in to the weekend so i will get out a couple of more times and try and get my first for 2007 cheers..........

Respect andrew what a beaut!! and a great start i would not mind popping along there sometime this year for a go hey! maybe we could organize a meet for all the mullet heads? i will even have my hair cut to match the event for a bet

Hello john and michele Congratulations on your retirement, now you can go on very nice long holidays to the far corners of the earth sampling what some of are antipodean friends regard as real rsa!! perhaps you could report back about there very strict and worthwhile conservation methods and laws that has brought about such excellent sea angling? or you could just forget about this dungheap of a country? (i would not blame you in the least mate) good luck and all the best

Its easy stoaty, try and find a beach that is not riddled with nets mate then you just might have a chance? that is if you can find one, cheers..........

Hi wurzel As normal with commercials its all about MONEY!! and they will kill anything that swims to get it, the size or maturity of the species has little irrelevence to them imo this cannot be denied, i guess in time when whats left of the industry finally goes belly up the sea might just get a little rest but unfortunately it will probably take the rsa with it :(

Hi challenge the rsa in my area's quality is very poor and has been for a very long time, all of this time the commercials have been ever present were as the greens are only just getting started, so you can make your own conclusions on who is the most likely to have caused the problem around here, if things stay the same as regards the commercials with no restrictions ie, mpa's/golden mile/proper mls increases? then the rsa will die off within the next few decades, you and your customers may be happy steaming hundreds of miles for a few cod but you are in the main a very SMALL minority as regards the rsa if i had to realy choose between the greens and the commercials to run the shop it would have to be the former as i have found no evidence that the latter could be trusted what so ever to look after our inshore marine waters for the benefit of all, they have held the reins at the sfc's for decades and look were that has got us!! cheers........

Hi glen I lifted this trawling byelaw off the nesfc website, its a little bit gobbledy goop to read for my untrained brain, but maybe you or anyone else might be able to put it in laymans terms, anyway i think its saying there are some trawling restrictions out to three mile maybe? whats your interpretation of it any ideas????????

Hi glen How big an area does this sandsend ness to boulby trawl exclusion zone cover ie, in miles? it would be nice to have any sort of exclusion zone down here even if the policing of such is crap glen. As you say your coast is a bit more rugged, with that as well as this (albeit poorly policed trawl exclusion zone) you guys up north have atleast some hope and its no wonder that you still have some half decent fishing left, its also different down here with its nice sandy easy no risk shoreline with those torrid little beamers dragging the f**k out of the ground right up to the groynes, we have jack protection and the lack of the last few decades of quality shore fishing results can prove it, cheers...........

Hi steve There are sh*t loads of ngo's and petitions cropping up nowadays voicing there opinions about all that is environmentle these days, but they all fail to achieve little if not any of there aims imo, the question that must be asked is why? I suppose it all comes down to getting enough support behind them and "keeping" that support and it being listened to from the start and all the way through, and how its used to shape there aims etc. I have allways thought that if a high level celeb type of person could be brought on board? (a bit like a sea angling version of "jamie oliver" i think fish are just as important as overweight kids indeed a cure to some of the latter could be found by the former) to highlight the problems and promote the rsa on tv more directly this would make a huge difference, so i am glad to see a couple of these guys have put there names forward for this nuba thing, but it does depend on how active these chaps are when they are in the limelight so to speak. As for aims and objectives i would like to see? well nothing new steve that i have allways wanted, and i guess like no other chap who has fished the beaches and shoreline of this island for over the past three/four decades and that is, a chance to catch a few decent sized fish from it now and then mate like the good ole days, how this can be achieved imo is through a few simple measures that have been mentioned and proposed on this very forum and elsewhere, but the difference as got to be in the way and weight of its backing if it is to have any chance of it being achieved and successfuly implemented, cheers........ You keep saying that steve, but it seems to me that there is an awfull lot of prosicutions going on lately and i am begining to think they are only the tip of the iceberg matey, you and wurzel may end up being the only legit law abiding fishermen out there

Hi steve All believable mate, so not much can be done perhaps to stop the the continued destruction by this aggregate dredging? perhaps mother nature will bite back? i mean a lot of these new houses that this aggregate may be intended for are being built on flood plains etc, with the rising sea levels it may just come and claim it back, trouble is those fat cat bosses of these aggregate company's would have made there fortunes by then and they realy could not give a fig what ever happens after, hey ho cheers...........

No they did not get rid of it, they just changed the name to council tax, and there has been quite a few protesters refusing to pay it over the years, and this has not stopped the government banging many very elderly grandma's and grandads up for a few weeks inside stir, so all this protesting aint gonna do jack, if and i feel more likely that they bring in the sea angling license they will do a few stings with fines of £2000 a go, and in no time everyone will be buying one, this nation of ours people are so surppressed and apathetic they will pay and they know it, we do it all the time, cheers.............. Hi steve You make a fair point about the aggregate dredging and the damage it causes, i agree with you, i would like to see the whole thing banned period, but you are wrong to think the greens are ignoring it check this site out!! http://www.marinet.org.uk/mad/madbrief.html One of the worrying things for me and probably you is that these bo**ock head company's are due to get new licenses granted to them to opperate the whole of this industry and expand it, in the southeastern channel it looks like we will be all fcuked mate. I did not realise how much a threat this aggregate dredging realy was until now, and all the rsa,s and commercials that live between the i.o.w and dover should be very worried indeed, maybe we have found something that both the rsa and commercials can agree on and perhaps do something about it? over to you cheers...............
