  1. Thats why the club was formed. Hopefully when other anglers see us sweeping their arm they will be guilted into being more thoughtfull about their rubbish. However im sure a few of the anglers look at us as do-gooders or mugs. It would be really great if the clubs goals were adopted across the nation and other clubs sprang up. All it takes is a few people and a means of communication.
  2. Interesting one this, i am a target shooter of 32 years of age and have been shooting since i was 14. I am in no way going to try to convince someone to try to become pro target shooting. Its nearly always a waste of time. My wife strongly dislikes my having rifles and a black powder pistol. I also fully understand a persons need for security. In this case and quite rightly, the safety of our most precious things. The children. The handgun ban was illegally enforced as a knee jerk reaction to appese the public after a frenzied press done a fantastic job of whipping up a percieved public anti shooting opinion. Yes the maniac was a member of a gun club and those club members had informed the authorities of Thomas Hamilton's (the killers) dubious behaviour and deemed him an undesirable. His dodgy interest in scouting and access to children was also noted. Sadly the police themselves did not act upon any of the warnings and the horific outcome was the consequence. The fact the multiple warnings were ignored by the authorities have become the focus of accusations of pedo links between hamilton and senior police officers. So the general rumour is that hamilton had a hold over senior officers with a pedo interest and kept his licence that way. Either way horific and shocking. So the safeguards would have to be interior police checks on the officers in charge of licensing for starters. And perhaps annual pschyological checks on men and women with firearms certificates. This is on top of the existing stringent checks made on us. In the defense of target shooters. When the illegal ban was introduced, despite knowing it was illegal the owners of pistols, handed over their guns and ammunition. Losing their much loved sport seemingly forever and also hundreds of pounds of financial value. Compensation was paid for material value of firearms handed in but this was slow and in some cases vastly under the true value of the pistol. As a firearms holder i see it as my duty to try and educate people in safe, appropriate application of firearm use and since gaining my license have been much more aware of the law and its upkeep. Im sure most FAC holders are the same. I do not however try to bully non shooters into being pro shooters. Since the ban of handguns, logic would say that handgun crime would have ceased to exist. Rather unsurprisingly handgun crime has risen dramatically. So surely this would indicate that the ban simply removed legally and responsibly held firearms from sporting shooters. It should also be noted that FAC holders legally still have in their possesion rifles from .22 semi automatic and bolt action up to military calibre rifles. I cant remember when/if these were reported in the news as being involved in crime. Probably because they are held by the same responsible shooters who lost their handguns to the ban. Something many of the public do not realise is that we can still own and shoot black powder revolvers (think cowboy films) and long barrel revolvers such as a 357 magnum but with a piece of coathanger in the handle to make it the required length by law. Again i do not believe any of these types of handgun have ever been associated with crime since the ban. Im not trying to convince non shooters to vote for the pistol ban to be lifted but do hope to show that we actually want things to be made as safe as possible for everybody and would welcome handgun target shooting return along with any stringent safeguards imposed. We have nothing to hide.
  3. Got nagged by the famer i shoot for asking when im going to be fit enough to do some bunny bashing. Im really missing my country walks.
  4. Just to cap off my week, hobbled to a meeting in Hove on Sunday to meet a jounalist to get some help with promotion for next years charity do that i organise for the RNLI, Kids hospital and surfaid. I parked in my old bosses car park which was empty as i cant walk too far after the op. Came back from the meeting after an hour and found i was clamped and cost £125 to get released. I wanted to slap the ******* with an iron bar. Apparently my old govenor no longer owns the car park and the new company implemented the clamping system 3 months ago. IT WAS EMPTY!!!!! I gave up and wanted to cry to be honest (not wanting to sound like a girly poof). Now i am definitely screwed for crimbo. Off to jump from beachy head now.. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (splosh)
  5. To give you an idea where im coming from. Ive seen my mum move into a new council house, and use a hammer to crack the toilet, bath or sink. Or perhaps make the floor dirty, then plead sincerely for a new bathroom suite to be installed as well as money to redecorate. AND SHE GETS IT!!! Usually 600 to 1200 quid. She's done this several times in many houses and has not worked for 32 years. Also pulled various other stunts with benefits, partners etc. Not been near the leach in four years but she and those like her are probably why im so gutted i cant get any help as us lot are paying for them.
  6. You must have set it to rear curtain or front curtain sync mode. Or on a point and click, night mode.
  7. Sorry gents, didnt mean to offend. Im talking about able bodied people very capable of working but who are to bone idol to get of backisides and earn a living. Instead they scrounge. I.e people like my mother. Again, i do not mean to offend so appologies. I didnt mean working lads like you lot.
  8. Cheers all, i intend to appeal. ive paid my way since school. Funny how all those other years get forgotten about. I wouldnt mind but i should be back on my feet within a month and get the business recovery underway. My mum has been dole scum all her life and has scrounged every friggin benefit available. God i hope i dont have to sell my stuff off. Damn government. Ive had enough.
  9. I had to have an emergency operation six weeks ago which im still recovering from. Cant work due to this and have been housebound. A shock to the system as i have been in full time employment since leaving school seventeen years ago and in part time employment since i was thirteen untill leaving school. Im a self employed sole trader (structural engineer & photographer) and am not earning a jot while ill. So i swallowed my pride and upon my many district nurse's advice made an application for incapacity benefit. With a mortgage and the usual bills to pay i am slowly going under so its a case of pride before the fall. Got a letter from the bod's today saying im not entitled to anything as ive not payed enough NIC!!! Total cobblers as my accounts for the last five show i have made all my contributions on time and up to date. So it now looks like im in for the crappiest festive season and birthday ever. Especially as the taxman wants his pound of flesh at the end of January. Normally this would be in the bank except ive had to use it to pay bills. To get by, it looks like im may have to sell all the nice shiny new fishing tackle that the insurance company replaced (only 60% of the value) after some wan%^r stole it. which incidentally the police done nothing about. To say im pi$$ed off is an understatement.
  10. I have scanned the full article page from the Shoreham Herald and put it up here should any of you fancy a look. Words and pictures by yours truly. Shoreham Angling Squad & Shoreham Herald Article Please feel free to pass the link on. Cheers SDC
  11. I dont actually need the unit itself as the plod are saying the one i handed in months ago is now mine to keep as it has not been claimed. I will need all the gubbins though. Power supply, cables, mount and transducer. Is there a way of checking the main unit works without spending out on all the above first? You may have guessed i know nothing about rigging up this sort of kit.
  12. Short piece here: http://www.shorehambysea.com/Newsflashes/N..._Arm_!.html
  13. I reckon, hats off to the three lads that thought of it. There are now just under 60 club members. Small storey here http://www.shorehambysea.com/Newsflashes/N..._Arm_!.html
  14. Morning all. Many months ago i handed a nicked Lowrance fishfinder and case into the old bill. (No i didnt nick it!!!!!) Anyhow it seems no one has claimed this and according to the letter i just recieved it is now mine to keep. It has a case but no power supply or anything. Just the screen unit. Assuming i can get it working, how easy is it to set up on my Perception Freedom? TIA Sean
  15. Had a result on this, three of the local rags have picked up on this and are printing my / steve's article with my pictures. Will forward the scanned article when they come out.
  16. Done some shots for the club which is going in a few mags and papers. unedited selection on this makeshift gallery http://www.zen31943.zen.co.uk/sas
  17. Im still broke (no work due to op six weeks ago) and recovering stolen kit but was wondering if you have any xl flotation suits, bulrag floats??
  18. Cheers for the positive comments. Perhaps forming a group like the SAS at your local mark will be a start. It only takes half hour to sweep the whole lot with four blokes with brooms. I really dont understand why certain anglers cant just put their waste in a carrier bag and put it in the bin or perhaps the bin at home. Lazyness i would imagine. And mummy and daddy clearing up after them all the time when growing up.
  19. Evening all. Some of you may have heard of this but just in case.... After becomming fed up of the state of Shorehams West Arm i.e. discarded line, hooks, newspaper, dead fish, beer / coke cans and bottles. A group of anglers got together to form the Shoreham Angling Sqaud. A free to join group of like minded anglers dedicated to improving the conditions of this popular mark for everyone. This afternoon a group of us got together for the second fish and sweep. Although the arm wasnt too bad today, four bin bags full of nastyness was collected. We hope these regular clean ups will inspire other anglers to be more thoughful with their rubish and also get involved. I have knocked up a (very) rough gallery of unedited shots here. Some half decent ones for the press. Link below http://www.zen31943.zen.co.uk/sas/ It all stemmed from the forum here http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37218 If your involved in the fishing press, please contact me about posibilities of an article. Cheers SDC

  23. THE STORY OF THE GRASSHOPPER & THE SQUIRREL REST OF THE WORLD VERSION: The squirrel works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building and improving his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the squirrel is warm and well fed. The shivering grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold. THE END THE BRITISH VERSION: The squirrel works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the squirrel is warm and well fed. A social worker finds the shivering grasshopper, calls a press conference and demands to know why the squirrel should be allowed be warm and well fed while others less fortunate, like the grasshopper, are cold and starving. The BBC shows up to provide live coverage of the shivering grasshopper; with cuts to a video of the squirrel in his comfortable warm home with a table laden with food. The British press inform people that they should be ashamed that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so while others have plenty. The Labour Party, Greenpeace, Animal Rights and The Grasshopper Council of GB demonstrate in front of the squirrel's house. The BBC, interrupting a cultural festival special from Notting Hill with breaking news, broadcasts a multi cultural choir singing "We Shall Overcome". Ken Livingstone rants in an interview with Trevor McDonald that the squirrel has gotten rich off the backs of grasshoppers, and calls for an immediate tax hike on the squirrel to make him pay his "fair share" and increases the charge for squirrels to enter inner London. In response to pressure from the media, the Government drafts the Economic Equity and Grasshopper Anti Discrimination Act, retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The squirrel's taxes are reassessed. He is taken to court and fined for failing to hire grasshoppers as builders for the work he was doing on his home and an additional fine for contempt when he told the court the grasshopper did not want to work The grasshopper is provided with a council house, financial aid to furnish it and an account with a local taxi firm to ensure he can be socially mobile. The squirrels' food is seized and re distributed to the more needy members of society, in this case the grasshopper. Without enough money to buy more food, to pay the fine and his newly imposed retroactive taxes, the squirrel has to downsize and start building a new home. The local authority takes over his old home and utilises it as a temporary home for asylum seeking cats who had hijacked a plane to get to Britain as they had to share their country of origin with mice. On arrival, they tried to blow up the airport because of Britain's apparent love of dogs. The cats had been arrested for the international offence of hijacking and attempt bombing but were immediately released because the police fed them pilchards instead of salmon whilst in custody. Initial moves to then return them to their own country were abandoned because it was feared they would face death by the mice. The cats devise and start a scam to obtain money from peoples credit cards. A Panorama special shows the grasshopper finishing up the last of the squirrels food, though spring is still months away, while the council house he is in, crumbles around him because he hasn't bothered to maintain the house. He is shown to be taking drugs. Inadequate government funding is blamed for the grasshoppers' drug 'illness'. The cats seek recompense in the British courts for their treatment since arrival in UK.> The grasshopper gets arrested for stabbing an old dog during a burglary to get money for his drugs habit. He is imprisoned but released immediately because he has been in custody for a few weeks. He is placed in the care of the probation service to monitor and supervise him. Within a few weeks he has killed a guinea pig in a botched robbery. A commission of enquiry, that will eventually cost £10,000,000 and state the obvious, is set up. Additional money is put into funding a drug rehabilitation scheme for grasshoppers and legal aid for lawyers representing asylum seekers is increased. The asylum seeking cats are praised by the government for enriching Britain's multicultural diversity and dogs are criticised by the government for failing to befriend the cats. The grasshopper dies of a drug overdose. The usual sections of the press blame it on the obvious failure of government to address the root causes of despair arising from social inequity and his traumatic experience of prison. They call for the resignation of a minister. The cats are paid a million pounds each because their rights were infringed when the government failed to inform them there were mice in the United Kingdom. The squirrel, the dogs and the victims of the hijacking, the bombing, the burglaries and robberies have to pay an additional percentage on their credit cards to cover losses, their taxes are increased to pay for law and order and they are told that they will have to work beyond 65 because of a shortfall in government funds. THE END
  24. Friggin hell mate, thats quite something taking the back end off a trooper. Gutted for you. When is it your off to France. I'll hobble over and buy your a beer. Seems the common thread is that if you get injured / ill and your not rich then you are screwed.
