Possibly going for a weeks fishing trip end of Jan, anyone know what the bait pumping is like around Luce bay area??? Thanks in advance

Sorry for got the second question... We use red gills lot around here...but presume it is pretty much the same method...??!! With redgills we put a ball weight (size dependant on how deep you want it to fish) up the line followed by a bead, then tie on a swivel. To the swivel you then tie a length of line (i usually use about 4-5 foot depending how finicky the fish are being) then tie on the redgill to the other end and you are ready to go. I tend to use 30lb braid for spinning, you tend to hit more bites... Hope this helps

Is your weight getting snagged when you retrieve?? If so try using a lead lift. A lot of people round here use spark plugs tied to a rotton bottom (line of a lesser breaking strain than your main reel line, would say about half) Then purposely get the spark plug snagged so it will hold. Also if you are getting snagged on the retrieve, whist you have a fish on try using a rig with a stop knot below the snood swivel, rather than a crimp, this way if you have a good fish the knot will slip to just above the lead lifting it clear of any obstructions. So when there is a lack of fish in the water, they attack each other....so either way trawling is affecting Dolphin populations, whether they catch them in the nets or not. If they dont they will starve to death or kill each other anyway.... Sounds like more ammo to get it stopped the way i see it!!!

Elton, you only have to look back at the events involving the cocklers last Feb. After the event i asked myself what the hell they were doing out there at that time (it was dark!) You wouldnt get me going out there during the day, nevermind at night. However, I have never lived more than 5 mins walk from the sea, and have been a fisherman for as long as i can remember. Just because I know that it is dangerous, doesnt mean everyone has my respect or knowledge for the local area.

Just a quickie on seals, Last winter myself and a friend were having a bit of a night session, fishing on the stone jetty in morecambe, fishing was awful. We had only had maybe a couple of small whiting all night and by 9am we were getting ready to leave, vowing never to fish the place again. When my mate said, "whats that down there" as he pointed at a big black shadow seemingly floating back out to sea. at first we were not too sure...but then it stuck its head out of the water... What followed behind was a sight that neither of us will likely see again, we must have counted in excess of 40 seals swimming back up the channel...both of us just stood there in amazement. No wonder we didnt catch anything!!! (knew it couldnt have been our talent letting us down!!! ) Have seen plenty of seals around there before but only in ones and twos...dred to think how much fish something of that scale would wipe out in a night, nevermind in their lifetime!!

I live about 10 mins walk from Heysham power station. At the rear of the power station there are two outfalls which i have fished for years, but i have recently heard that this area is a nursery area, however was also told that the restrictions were only for boats... Could this be true?? Are there different classifications for different areas??(ie. no boats/no boats or shore fishing) And if so is there a web site where i could check to find out which this area is???

In the words of Mr Axel Rose 'wow wow wow sweet child of mine!!' Whats this about people that use multipiers ?? Are you trying to suggest that we are all girls?? Please dont take this the wrong way but, this is a formal challenge...I would pretty much guarentee that using a multiplier, (unless your name is Mr McEllow) i could out cast most of you that were using a fixed spool, as long as it was tuned correctly! Anyway...as far as oil goes, try AVOID USING WD40 AT ALL COSTS!!!! WD40 is not an oil, it is a degreaser! although, it will lubricate your bearings alot better than using nothing!!! Not sure what leaving your reel in a bucket of water will do apart from rust your handle.... The best oil you can buy for your reel is 'TG's ROCKET FUEL' or similar, (prob available from your local tackle dealer) there are a few different ones you can get, but i tend to use the 'PENN FORMULA' one, even for my abu's. I tend to fully strip my reels down every 4-5 fishing trips, depending how much abuse they have taken...
