  1. Thanks Rudd. Just found this http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/authors/gaffer01.htm on the subject too.
  2. Im no specimen hunter so excuse me here but ive always wondered how carp and pike anglers know about the underwater features in a venue. I hear them talking about gravel bars, plateaus, patrol zones etc, some of which are maybe 30 or 40 yards out. Now I gather most of this can be found out by using a fishfinder but I cant believe everyone uses this method. I can find features when float fishing obviously by using a plummet so whats the technique when fishing at distance? Do you count the lead down on casting and estimate the depth repeatedly over your swim?
  3. Never had my license checked and never heard of anyone up this way being checked either. It must be hard to police though, when you think about every possible stretch of river, canal and lakes across the UK. They'd need a pretty big team to get to them all reguarly. Maybe they just concentrate on waters around where they live?
  4. There was an episode of Predators on H & L which was dedicated to Zander on the Severn. They were catching them using really bright lures in the deeper holes under the banks. Apparantly they are primarily night feeders so thats probably your best bet but im certainly no expert. According to Mr Hayes they live in localised shoals with a shoal roughly every mile. I guess its a case of all a case of location and finding that shoal ???
  5. i thought as much chaps, thanks
  6. Maybe a daft question but instead of whole sardines can the tinned type from supermarkets work for pike? Would they hold on the trebles during casting?
  7. Ithink the site you got them from is session based and its timed out. Im sure there's an upload area on AN somewhere? Can anyone help with that??

    WIDNES

Mersey Valley golf Club have just opened up two lakes for fishing stocked full of carp. Its not far from you. Dunno of any others http://www.merseyvalleygolfclub.co.uk/fishing_club.html
  9. god I could go for ever, err Lugsmore Lane and Leg O' Mutton Dam in St Helens. Used to fish Carr Lane Pool in Prescot and Big Water in Whiston but not fished there in years. Just got myself a Warrington AA permit so you can add their water's to the list. Going fishing on Sefton Park lake in Aigburth over the weekend. Orrell Water Park in Wigan is good too - too many to mention. Im a nomadic angler, I can never settle on one place and be happy; I always have to check out new venues. [ 11. 10. You could make on yourself for that price. Im sure he's just modded an 'off the shelf' trolley there.
  11. I must be blind - where about on Metcheck is the fishing forcast?
  12. Just thought id bump this up to the top again after stumbling across http://www.fisheries4sale.com
  13. nice one, ill give that a try tonight poledark
  14. I used to lug all my gear on a bus mate - not fun!
  15. Thanks lads, the problem with those methods is that the pole section thats inside isnt sticking out of the top section at all. Its jammed up about 3 inches from the lip of the outer pole so I cant get a hold on any of it at all. It went in fine when I packed it up last but im at a loss to think what is jamming it up.
  16. HELP! Being the numpty i am one of my pole sections has stuck inside another (probably due to me not wiping it down after use). Ive tried washing up liquid and brute force but nothing will budge it. Its a really really tight fit so getting lubricant inbetween the sections is virtually impossible. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks chaps

Fished it once about 3 years ago Jonah, not a bad little day water but I was only fishing for bits. However if you want a cracker try Orrell Water Park just past Billinge. During the summer the carp top all day long, the majority of them are between 10 - 20lb and can be caught on floating biscuit. In the winter ive always had great sport from skimmers on pole at 10m, seems to perform when most other lakes dont.
  19. Sounds like a good day Jonah, where did you fish?
  20. Thanks chaps, id be lost without ya's!
  21. Oh right, thanks Alan. I was a bit worried about putting too much shot bulked up. do you think it'll be ok with a few no.4's bulked up then an a couple of number 8's towards the hook?
