  2. Yeeehaaaa I now have a Tarpon 140 on my roof rack and will be there on Saturday. Bill there's no need for the XT. As I'm driving from Plymouth and there seems to be one or two launching from Salcombe that would seem to be a better bet. Where and at what time should I be around Salcombe. Will there be someone who can nurse a newbie (I wont be bringing any fishing gear so I can get used to paddling the thing it's been a while) I will be driving from Holsworthy via Plymouth anyone else driving similar route from Plymouth. Can't wait Flynny

  5. Hi All Back in the land of the living, crap holiday in Wales, just finished the netting week at work so I'm absolutely knackered, to top everything off I called AS Watersports and there is no sign of my Tarpon 140 so I'm pretty p****d off. Thinking about cancelling my order, any suggestions for a replacement?? It was good to meet all of you and I look forward to the meet even if I am still yakless. regards Flynny

  9. Hi I used to use both types of link for ease of changing lure but I now attach via loop (to many charter skippers told me It does affect the action of the lure) regards Flynny
  10. Hi Aren't there one or two from Dorset or is this strictly Devon, How about Exeter? I can make Thurs 20th regards Flynny
  11. Bummer, we shoud have been on a Bass trip from Plymouth with Jim O'Donnel. So that's where Porgies go for their winter holidays!! regards Flynny
  12. Good Luck My only advice if you don,t want to tire the fish to exhaustion would be to adopt IGFA rules, fish with traditional steel hooks not s/s, relatively short rubbing trace or ideally wind on leader and cut the line as close as you can. I would forget trying to revive any shark. I think there should be a happy medium in playing but not over tiring. What rod/reel/line/drag etc are you using? are you chumming or searching for the shark first last of all where are you going, I would of thought they might be a bit sparse this time of year. Best Regards Flynny P.S. I'm only 5' 5" and ansome
  13. Kivells phone No is 01409 253888 speak to Nicky, if you post your phone No I'll give it to my mate, he owns a 2 bed property in Holsworthy he might be renting. regards Flynny
  14. Hi I've folowed this thread with interest. I have caught Porgies from N Devon, all behaved in similar ways, not that aggresive until lifted from the water or attempting to tail them (sorry guys but in comparison to long liners I never object to taking the odd table fish). They were usually fairly docile in their approach to the boat. As stated in earlier posts if you fish with the correct gear, drag settings and normal steel hooks you should be able to catch and release any shark caught which should recover. I don't think I would attempt it alone as I havn't even caught a fish from my yak yet (it's mid atlantic at the moment)but it's certainly one of the reasons I bought it. As for 600lb sharks chewing the yak, I think that's the stuff of dreams, good ones though, it's a record fish and Porgies have small mouths, about big enough to fit yer foot in. I've also tried fishing for them from the shore with a 7lb TC Catfish rod, Shimano TLD20 twin speed loaded with 20lb northern rock, got out to about 350 yds Fairwell and adieu to you fair spanish ladies Flynny
  15. What exactly are you looking for I have friends who own property and my missus works for Kivells, one of the SW largest letting agencies How long, how big etc regards Flynny
  16. Great idea, could do with another registered charity to donate my money to :-) on a serious note I am all in favour of setting some dates next year or howabout an eviening intro meet This kayak thing is getting wy to obsessive, I've bought a VW caddy pick up with ladder rack to carry my yak started changing my gear to suit and building a crate ( the thing isn't even in the UK yet!!!!!) A bit off topic anyone fancy going for the Porgies, it's one reason I got the yak and I reckon it's achievable from either Crackington or close to Hartland Best Regards Flynny
  17. Thanks GB Fishing at AP has been good, some excellent Carp and coarse fish. Sea fishing this year , not so great, been out for Thresher and Porbeagle from SW Devon and N Devon, had hits but caught nothing, some good mixed reef fishing from Clovelley / Boscastle. Shore fishing still slow. Regards Richard
  18. Depends which one, I own a small chieftan, the line lay let's it down when fishing light braid, personnaly I would always stick with Abu ( I own a Sports Mag,a 7500Ct C3), dearer but stand the test of time. Regards Richard
  19. The rod in question has caught Conger to 50lb (pushing it a bit) but the idea of a short rods seemed to be comon sense, I've read the threads on the Fladden carbon rods (which are good rods, but watch the guides, I've fished with them)I don't know how they affect balance or their ability to land fish close in. You guys should know more than me when it comes to Yak fishing. Regards Flynny
  20. As a newbie, which fishfinders do people use, what cost, what power requirements, results etc. Also how are they mounted, i.e. hull or suspended. regards Flynny P.S. There seem to be quite a few newbies, are there any plans for a meet etc.
  21. Hi I'm also a newbie, based in Holsworthy Devon. Just bought a fishing yak (tarpon 140) See my newbie post regarding Fladden gear I can vouch for the Fladden flotation vest and some of their other gear. Look forward to meeting you sometime. regards Flynny
  22. Hi to you all Another newbie. I'm a keen Sea angler (boat and shore)been researching and watching the various threads on this board and US boards. I've decided to jump in and take the plunge. I've ordered a Tarpon 140 (yellow) from the guys at AS Watersports in Exeter, looked at quite a few and bought what I could afford (maybe) I have fished around the World, big game etc also plenty of fishing from North and South Devon but love the idea of the individual appeal. I am based in Holsworthy Devon. I know there are one or two Yak fisherman down these parts, and am looking forward to meeting some of you. I welcome thoughts on the Tarpon 140 for the N. Devon coast and in general. By the way I work at Anglers Paradise, in Halwill Devon, as such we deal quite a lot in Fladen gear, anyone want some advice on their gear, give me a shout. Some of you may want to look at their 2.5ft Cup rod (a cracking buy at £6) or their new double spool spinning reel, they have a contender rod (well capable of Tope or Shark fishing) only 4.5ft. I can probably get a deal on some of their gear. I look forward to some of the great ideas on different rigging systems, but most of all I feel that this branch of the sport offers huge potential. Look forward to speaking to you all. Best Regards Flynny
